Re: What is your favourite chapter from all the books?

I have 2 favorite chappies:

Godric's Hollow- Because I'm a hardcore Harry/Hermione shipper and this is IMO the sweetest Harry/Hermione scene EVAH!!!! But even if I weren't a Harry/Hermione shipper I still think I would find this scene touching.

The Prince's Tale- I cried when I finished reading it. Actually, I think this was the one of the only 2 times I cried out of the whole series. This scene and Fred's death. ...oh yea, and the epilogue of course...

Yes! I'm not a shipper, but I agree that this is a beautiful chapter that really shows how much Hermione cares for Harry. Right after Harry feels more lonely than he has ever felt in his life, Hermione's presence is there to remind him that he is not. There's the one paragraph when Harry is looking down at his parents' grave and is thinking such horrifically sad things, and I just sob EVERY time I read it. EVERY time! It just destroys me! The sad truth that kind of hovers in the background throughout the entire series is finally written in words and Harry cries openly over the death of his parents for the first time.

Ugh...I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now...

I think that the only thing that could have made the scene better is if we could have gotten a little more into Harry's thoughts about having Hermione there with him. Obviously, the arm around her shoulders thing showed that Harry was glad she was there for him, but I'm not a "show don't tell kind of girl." I want to hear Harry voice the comfort he felt in having her there in his most vulnerable moment!
And even though Harry and Hermione were never involved romantically, I still think that this scene wouldn't have been so touching if it had been Ginny in Hermione's place. *Dodges bullets!!! I believe that the love Harry and Hermione had for each other ran much deeper than Ron & Hermione's or Harry & Ginny's.

Well I just shot the bullet!
Harry sees Hermione as a sister, there is no way you can compare that kind of love to the love shared between a husband and wife which Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione became.
You can compare it with Ron/Ginny because they are actually brother and sister.
I hate the way H/Hr's relationship is so idealised by fans.
Go back and look at how he treats her in OotP. How annoyed he gets at her nagging. That shows their true older sister/younger brother dynamic.
And for the record, the chapters in DH when Ron is missing are my least favourite of the series, along with the Cho Chang ones in OotP.
The fact that Ron (my favourite character) wasn't here ruined Harry's experience at Godric's Hollow, for me. The fact that I can't stand Hermione's character has something to do with it too!

I'd have to say my favorite chapter was The Wandmaker. I guess I realize that Harry is my favorite character and in this chapter I see why he's my favorite character. This chapter is written to perfection and really shows Harry's growth as a person. He matures instantly and leads like an adult. I could open Deathly Hallows and read this chapter and then close it when I'm done and be satisfied.

I have deleted a few off-topic posts.

Please keep in mind that this thread is for talking about your favorite chapters in the books and not for discussing different ships. Thanks.

Favourite books have been discussed and favourite parts, but more specifically what is your favourite chapter.

Mine has to be "the lost prophecy" from OotP. For me it is one of the most emotional chapters in the series, from Harry's and Dumbledore's view. Also I love the revelation about the prophecy, it makes a lot of things clear.
The Prince's Tale, The Silver Doe and King's Cross from DH in that order. I know only one was asked, but

I still see Harry/Hermione not as a sibling relationship. So Godric's Hollow chappie is still my favorite! Especially because it is my 2 fav characters alone.

Re: What is your favourite chapter from all the books?

Yule Ball's definitely up there. JKR captures the hilarity/awkwardness of teenage dating and formal dances like these so perfectly. I just LOVE her characterization of Harry and Ron in particular this chapter. But there's so much plot-related stuff going on too. From Snape/Karkaoff/Dark Mark, Hagrid's giant issues to JKR dropping a hundred clues about Fake!Moody. IMO her skills as a writer are never more apparent than GoF. She's juggling so many aspects of the Wizarding World the entire book and makes it all look so seamless.

Someone mentioned the Hog's Head from OotP, I definitely agree. A great feel-good chapter in an otherwise dull, dreary book.

The Silver Doe is DH's pinnacle and Ron's return is one of the emotional high points of the series. It rose where Godric's Hollow failed. There's a bond between Harry & Ron, a very emotional bond, that Harry and Hermione just do not seem to have. Yes, they care deeply about each other, but there's something very mechanical about how they relate to each other. Every time I read DH and I'm on Godric's Hollow, I'm thinking of how much more powerful powerful this would've been had Ron accompanied Harry in Hermione's place. Harry at his parents' grave is one of the most intimate, emotionally charged moments of the series...yet when Hermione's there comforting him, it just doesn't pack a punch.

Ch.35 of Deathly Hallows- hands down. I cried my eyes out. It was an amazing chapter.
And there was also a chapter-maybe kind of random- in POA where the very last line of the chapter (which J.K. Rowling always does an amazing job with), which was the ending of a Quidditch Match that Harry had won for Gryffindor, said something like, "And Harry felt like he could've taken on a hundred dementors." <333

The Forest Again because of the emotion and because Sirius comes back!

I'd say Bathilda's Secret - not the whole chapter, because i found it a bit confusing the first time i read it, but the part where we finally see what happened when LV tried to kill Harry. I don't really know why, I just like that bit

And The Forest Again, I cried so much at this - I had to sneak downstairs to get a tissue in case my brother saw me crying at a book - I love the emotion and Harry gets to see his parents again

My favorite chapter is The Flaw in the Plan, especially when Bellatrix dies! I also love the Prince's Tale and The Forest Again, so touching and made me cry!

No question- The Prince's Tale.
i really liked snape, and knew there must be more to him, from the beginning. i just felt like he was written to be more than the token "bad guy". i loved seeing all the events from another point of view.

Re: What is your favourite chapter from all the books?

My favourite's definitely The Prince's Tale, especially this part:
Lily: "Does it make a difference, being Muggle-born?"
Snape hesitated. His black eyes, eager in the greenish gloom, moved over the pale face, the dark red hair.
"No," he said. "It doesn't make any difference."
My other favourite moment is in OOTP, when Luna tells Harry her mother had died and everything, and Harry feels a little better about Sirius. And of course Fred and George's flight from Hogwarts, absoulutely love that.

The Prince's Tale (DH) & Beyond the Veil (Ootp) are two of my most favorite chapters.

Re: What is your favourite chapter from all the books?

There are so many chapters in all 7 books so I can't choose just one!

The Prince's Tale, Shell Cottage, and The Flaw in the Plan were really good chapters. I also think The Bribe is a pretty good chapter.

From OotP, I really like Snape's Worst Memomory, Beyond the Veil and The Second War Begins.

I don't think I can pick just one, but the first that comes to mind is The Prince's Tale from Deathly Hallows. Snape is one of my favorite characters and this chapter made me cry so hard. It was so touching to see him with Lilly before James stepped in and just to see how Snape's life progressed to make him so bitter towards Harry, even though he loved Lilly dearly. From this chapter till the end of DH i was just kind of steadily crying.

Re: What is your favourite chapter from all the books?

I can't pick one. The Prince's Tale because every time I reread that chapter I just wanna cry because I know Snape is going to die after a lifetime of unhappiness and believing that he has failed Lily. I also love The Forest Again because Harry is so brave in that chapter, but not the kind of bravery we usually see with him running into a situation without thinking. He walked to Voldemort knowing that he was going to die and sacrificed himself anyway. And I also like that his parents, Sirius and Lupin were there with him giving him support. At the same time it was sad because the appearance of those four were a reminder of all the people who died and a reminder that every person connected to Harry's parents' generation (James, Lily, Sirius, Lupin, Peter, Snape, Dumbledore) is gone and now he has to be on his own.
