Good Day Everyone,

I'm sorry to say that CoS Forums is going to shut down in the Summer, sometime around July. This isn't an early April Fools joke either.

The Forums have become quite expensive to run and manage. There's a lot (LOT) less traffic coming to the site these days as Harry Potter becomes less of a topical debate for people.

I held on for a while after the last film, wondering whether JK would announce anything surprising, but I find that even if she did it wouldn't serve to help the diminishing numbers on the site or my bank balance!

Myself, I've been absent a lot more in the past year as personal issues have taken over and I've had to work longer hours, to earn more money to keep the forums going as well as pay for things like rent, utilities and god knows what else.

Some of you will be sad and I'm sure others will be happy. I'm not doing this lightly and I could have closed the site last year but held off. I know this may upset some of you who've come to see this place as a haven with friends and I'm very sorry it has to go but I've kept this place going with money out of my own pocket for 10 years now and it's no longer financially viable to do so. Please understand that this is not an easy decision!

Some of you may wish to offer to help, to donate or even take on the site. Whilst I would listen to any suggestions, I will not accept donations as this would be unsustainable in the long-term. If you wanted to take on CoS, be aware that you would need to find $200 per month and to be honest with you all I'm not sure I'm prepared to let the site be taken over by anyone. I've created a thread for comments. The other staff know only as much as the above. There is no Plan B as far as they are concerned, so do not pester them for answers to questions. If they do not know, they are being totally honest.

Many thanks to everyone who for the last 10+ years have worked in one way or another on the site. All the staff, past and present who gave their time and energy to making the community work. Every single person gave their time for free and were never paid for their efforts. It was a labor of love for all.
Many thanks to the members, those who came & went and dared to stay. Every single one of you who contributed to the site, to the discussions and events. You were the ones who made the site what it became, from the all the book releases to the heated, sometimes famous debates about all sorts of topics. You made CoS what it was. So thank you.

RIP Michael Jackson
I didn't see one up, so decided to mention it. Seems a lot of deaths have been occurring lately; David Carridine, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson. Very sad we're losing so many people.

MJ after being found unconscious and was in a coma, passed away at the age of 50 this afternoon.

I can't believe he's dead. I remember growing up listening to his music. And he was only 50 when he died. RIP Michael Jackson. Regardless of whatever he had done, he was a very talented artist.

Fifty years old and dying of a massive heart attack, according to the reports I've seen. This is so sad. Michael strikes me as a kid who never had a chance to be a kid, never had a chance to grow up anywhere close to normally. What a sad, sad life!

I feel bad over the passing of Ed and Farrah, but the blow was softened, sorta, because of those two were already sick and suffering, but Micheal's death is just a 100% shocking since it came from out of nowhere which is why I made a thread for him.

I feel sorry for the guy in general because of how his life turned out. I definitely agree with Purp...he definitely wasn't allowed to grow up normally.

Exactly. While the other deaths are horrible as well, this one is going to get the most attention. It is so shocking because no one expected it. In addition, Michael Jackson is a very controversial person so the media will be obsessing over him even more.

.... but he has LOTS of very loyal fans. I am not among them, but I certainly remember some of his stuff with a lot of nostalgia and fondness.

Many people will e shocked and saddened.

As far as I am aware, he made the best selling album ever. And with the way music sales are going now, he'll probably keep the record for the foreseeable future.....

Amazing voice.... unbelievable dance moves.

Very sad life story.

I was exposed to Michael Jackson music as early as 1982...granted, I was born in 1981. lol So I've been listening to Michael songs and watching his videos for a long time. One of my earliest memories, is my watching The Making of Thriller. My dad had the Beta tape of it, which is probably why, as a kid, I was never scared of things like monsters because I knew they were costumes and make-up.

I guess you could call me a semi-fan since my listening started to fade round about the mid-90s, but everything before then, I still watch or listen to to this day. I can't go a week without listening to at least one song by him.

Best concert, that I've seen [not in person lol] anyway, is his Bad Tour he did in Yokohama, Japan back in 1987. Best solo album, not compilations or anything like that, imo, was Bad. The songs meshed well together. Off the Wall would be next for me, then Thriller, then Dangerous.

Just like you, SSJ, I was exposed to Michael's music at a very young age. I have his album Bad on CD and vinyl . One of my earliest memories of his music is my sister, less than a year old, falling asleep next to the speakers playing the album.

Me too -- I grew up listening to a lot of his music. The music world has a big void in it now with his passing, may he rest in peace.
