The thing is, if they are traveling in reverse order, then the diaries would be useless. River and the Doctor would have no shared memories, and all of their memories would be spoilers.

about the wedding between the Doctor and River. Because they are married, but it never really happened. So they are but they aren't yet it is clear that River now refers to herself as the Doctor's wife. So at least from her point of view it still happened and still counts. But I guess that is the best we could hope for because the Doctor would never actually settle down and marry someone. (Even though he does spend his nights with River )
One thing to keep in mind is that River definitely knows the Doctor's Name when we first/last see her.

They've actually been pretty clear that River is trending backwards relative to the Doctor; for the most part, an older River meets a younger Doctor, but this is not absolute.

A Good Man Goes to War suggests that River knows quite a bit about what the future Doctor will be like, and she is warning him against that. This makes me suspect that she is the Doctor's Ghost of Christmas Future to some extent. (Better her than the Valyard!)

Exactly - Moffat has gone on record saying that they are roughly / broaly speaking going in reverse order - sometimes I think people mis the 'broadly' part of that sentance!

I was wondering if anyone had seen this:

For the first time ever, the Doctor/River timeline thing seems to have been cleared up for me

I had seen that before, and I like it a lot. It just worried me slightly that this means River's story is complete.

Yeah. I would have loved to see the scene she describes in Forest of the Dead, where they go to the singing towers.

I'm also not clear on something. So, their timelines were jumbled after he learned her identity? Why?

Maybe I'm weird, but all of that made complete sense to me when the episodes aired. Maybe I just think asynchronously.

I'm not so worried that River's story is complete though. The ending of the video hints at another possible story to come. Maybe they won't go there... but then maybe they will.

Their storylines weren't really jumbled after learning her identity except for her first time seeing the Doctor. They tend to meet back-to-front but not always, hence the diaries.

It's always made perfect sense to me too.

I'm not sure if they are going to go there or not, it's certainly possible and I'd love it. But I also think they have plenty of back story to fulfill. The Doctor and River had 200 years of adventures, but that wasn't all of the adventures. We still don't know how she knows his name and (even though they may change the canon, even though I really hope they don't) she needs to see at least one more Doctor for her story to really make sense.

Um... now, it's been a while since I saw 6.13 but am I right in saying that Matt's still got to give River his screwdriver?

Yes. I believe that he gave it to her the last time that he saw her, before she went to the library.

from the episode - Forest of the Dead:
Spoiler: show

River: Funny thing is, this means you've always known how I was going to die. All the time we've been together you knew I was coming here. The last time I saw you—the real you, the future you, I mean—you turned up on my doorstep with a new haircut and a suit. You took me to Derillium. To see the Singing Towers. Oh, what a night that was. The towers sang, and you cried. You wouldn't tell me why but I suppose you knew it was time. My time. Time to come to the Library. You even gave me your screwdriver. That should have been a clue. There's nothing you can do.
The Doctor: Let me do this!
River: If you die here it'll mean I've never met you.
The Doctor: Time can be rewritten!
River: Not those times, not one line. Don't you dare! It's okay. It's okay. It's not over for you. You'll see me again. You've got all of that to come. You and me. Time and space. You watch us run!
The Doctor: River you know my name. You whispered my name in my ear. There's only one way I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could.
River: Hush now. Spoilers.

Agh, got confuddled again. Basically, am I right in saying that the Doctor (Matt's Doctor) doesn't have River's genetic/computer codey thingummy to put into CAL in Forest? Therefore, River still needs to crop up one more time to do that.

David Yates to direct a film version of Doctor Who funded by BBC Worldwide -
http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118046098
Jane Tranter is involved, she was the main mover behind the scenes at the BBC who managed to bring Doctor Who back in 2005. I don't think this means a David Tennant return to the role or that of Billie Piper as Rose. Sounds like it's going to be completely seperate from the series.

Oh please not. We don't need two Who universes. And American writers...

I'm willing to give it a shot.

However, if I so much as smell Steve Kloves, Chris Columbus, or that complete pillock that wrote the Percy jackson film anywhere near this, then I will start shouting.

You do not want to hear me shouting.

Re: The new Doctor Who v.5 (spoilers in abundance also for season 6)

Wow, I did NOT see this coming! I like David Yates, I trust that he could pull together something decent - but my gut reaction is: This is a bad idea. Why do a movie that starts the Whoniverse from scratch, creating a separate continuity, when the show (and the show's continuity is confusing enough on its own, by the way ) is more popular on both sides of hte pond than ever? It's just needlessly confusing. Besides, "Doctor Who" isn't a show that feels painfully cheap anymore; it conveys more than enough scale when it wants to convey scale. I'm not writing this project off - and even if I do, I know I'll still see it - nor the idea of having an American writer, even if that American writer is, gasp!, Steve Kloves (whose Harry Potter scripts were always very good to me, but I know I'm extremely unpopular in thinking that...on a Harry Potter fan site). But word isn't entirely encouraging.

Re: The new Doctor Who v.5 (spoilers in abundance also for season 6)

I'm definitely writing it off. When I first heard the news I thought it was an interesting idea, but I didn't know that he planned to start "from scratch" and something completely unrelated to the series. I don't understand exactly why anyone would think it is a good idea to make a completely separate and unrelated movie while the show is still airing. I don't know why the BBC would allow it honestly. And I am promising that I will not see the movie.

I suppose with a time traveler who periodically changes physical appearances, it would be relatively easy to create a complete story for the Doctor. It reminds me of what they did with the Star Trek franchise, having both a TV series and a bunch of movies.

The positive side of this film not being connected to the show is if the story goes in some radical, disastrous direction, it won't affect the show at all. I still think it's a bad idea, though.

Re: The new Doctor Who v.5 (spoilers in abundance also for season 6)

The 1960's Doctor Who Movies were cool

I can think of one writer in the United States who could write a decent Doctor Who film script... Neil Gaiman. If it's pants it pants, but at least we might get to see Doctor Who on the Big Screen.
