You so just made me hungry. I'm a vegetarian, too, and all of those sound amazing.

To the original topic of this thread, I lovee vegetables. Cauliflower and broccoli are probably my favorites, but I also love potatoes, spinach, corn, cucumber, lettuce, carrot, and probably a lot more than I'm forgetting. Yay veggies.

Yeah, falafel, for me, is the ultimate. You get a falafel sandwich, ask them to make it a bit spicy, and it's heaven in a wrapper. I'm almost used to the Indian food. At the restaurant I go to, the vegetarian meal usually includes dhaal (sp?), channa masala, palak paneer, vegetable korma, and that white, cucumber yogurt sauce (anyone know the name?), plus a side of naan. And then I request Kheer for the desert. Awesome. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

I tried falafel once, and it wasn't my favorite. But I'll have to try it on a sandwich sometime. Haha, I definitely have no idea what any of those things are.

I think that is worse, as they have to suffer more, especially as their babies are taken away, as funnily enough (sarcastic laugh) cows can't produce milk without having a baby

I suggest you cut down your milk intake, I mean seriously, it is high in fat, cholestorol, hormones and everything!

I like carrots. They are my favorite veggie. I prefer them raw with dip, but I will eat them just about any way.

OK, I love veggies! Yay! They're healthy and good. I like all veggies except for spinach. Can't stand spinach. Or bean sprouts. Though, I think I like fruits more than vegetables.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I didn't know where else. How many of you are vegetarian? What type of vegetarian are you (vegetarian, vegan, flexitarian, raw foodist, etc.)? I personally am almost vegan (for animal rights). Are you vegetarian for animal rights, health, or the environment? How long have you been vegetarian? Just wondering.

Cool! I went (almost) vegan about a year ago. The only reason that I'm not completely vegan is that I'm 15, so I'm obviously still living with my parents. My diet is 98% vegan, as is my wardrobe, but I do use some hygeine products that contain animal products because vegan ones tend to be more expensive and my parents don't want to buy them. Nice to meet you!

Actually, I probably do, as well - I try to avoid them, but I'm less strict than I am with food. And I'll wear wool and silk if it's second-hand, but I won't buy new clothes with animal fibres.

Yeah, I do own a few pieces of clothing that contain wool/silk, but from before I went vegan. And I didn't know about the social group... I'll look for it, thanks!

Of late I have been mostly vegetarian, mostly because my body for some odd reason got turned off meat. I will eat meat if I am visiting someone and it is the only option served to me, so I am not strictly a vegetarian. I do believe it to be much healthier to eat meat less often than more often, not only for the individual but for the whole community and environment. The mass production of meat, tends to lend to much animal cruelty. I don't believe that animals should not be consumed period, but that even when they are to be consumed they should be taken care of while they live.

Anyone got any good V/V recipes?

For a quick, easy-to-make meal I like doing:

Bean burgers

1 can of red kidney beans (or equal weight of dried beans once they've been soaked and cooked)
1 small onion, finely chopped
Half a cup of oats
Heaped teaspoon of yeast extract
Vegetable oil

Drain the beans, put them in a bowl and roughly mash them with a fork.
Mix in the rest of the ingredients, apart from the oil.
Mould with your fingers into two quarterpounder size burgers.
Fry in the oil for about 5-10 minutes, until they're brown on both sides.

I am not strictly vegetarian, however I do not eat read meat at all. I only occasionally eat fish and chicken. I personally think that red meat doesn't taste so good and doesn't sit well in one's stomach. I also do not wear anything made from an animal. We aren't living in the AD, BC times so there is no need to wear anything from an animal.

I went vegetarian about six years ago, and have been vegan for the past three and a half. I stopped eating meat 'cos it was making me sick. Then later on dairy products (especially milk and cheese) started making me sick too so did away with the lot. I don't miss it. Much healthier now and I get to eat far tastier food

One of my favourite vegan recipes is also one that's deady easy. I found it online, where I get 90% of my food ideas. Things like aloo gobi are the kinds of foods non vegetarians/vegans aer likely to like too so it's good if you're having people over

I've been vegetarian for the last ten years. I was vegan for the first five of them.

My reasons were always to do with animal rights. I doubt I'll ever be able to eat meat again as it's been so long and I still have problems with cheese as it is even after five years of eating it again, but if the day ever comes where animals aren't farmed in cramped factories anymore I may give it a try.

One of my favorite things to cook are lentils. The "recipe" isn't so much a recipe as it is ideas I've taken from other people while adding in some of my own.

Lentils a la mexicant You will need: one pound dry lentils, sorted and cleaned 12-16 cups of water one large onion, diced one 8oz can of tomato sauce one 8oz can of diced Ortega chiles two to four carrots, peeled and diced four to six stalks of celery, diced two to four tomatoes, diced one bunch of fresh cilantro, finely chopped three tablespoons sea salt Directions: Place lentils in water in a large pot and set over medium-high to high heat to boil. Add in onion and carrots. Add in tomato sauce and chiles. When it's boiling, stir it up and bring the heat down to low and cover. Add in the celery, tomatoes, and salt. Stir. Let cook for one hour. Add in cilantro. Keep it on low until the lentils are thoroughly cooked, usually for another one or two hours.

The amount of water you put in will determine how thick it is. Overall, it takes 2-3 hours to cook, and I use a gas stove. I like to eat it with a bit of white rice and lemon. ^_^
