So, you've seen the movie, what do you think? Were all the bits in there that you wanted? Was the "end" what you expected/wanted? Use this thread for open discussion amongst one another for the movie.

The Bathilda Bagshot scene was a great scene. I though it stood out and was as creepy as I thought it was going to be...maybe even creepier. That lady is so scary looking, at one point in time I thought I was watcing a scary movie. And the blood and flies in that one room when Hermione is downstairs is very creepy. I just wish Nagini came out of the lady's neck like in the book and I wish that they had Voldemort there as well but it was still a good scene!

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Open Discussion

My main concerns were: the Dursleys did not give a proper goodbye. Vernon was very annoying, in the book, and Dudley shook Harry's hand when they said "Good-bye". this was missing from the movie. The part leading up to Harry's and Ron's fight-- I read the book, so I know how Ron felt, he was constantly grumpy and annoyed that they weren't getting anywhere in the hunt for Horcruxes. this was not in the movie. It was all of a sudden, Ron and Harry were yelling at each other, then they fight. They did include a lot of the dialog from the book. Almost verbatium. Throught the movie, I realised that they are no longer "children playing at saving the wizarding world," this was "for real". There was no adult to turn to for assistance, they were pretty much on their own.
I loved the 7 Potters, but Moody gave them individual cups to drink the polyjuice potion instead of one bottle.
I wished that they had the flash back of Voldemort remembering going to Godrich's Hollow and actually killing James and Lily. I know it was in the first movie, but it would have been nice to see it again from Voldemort's perspective.
For the locket scene, before Ron killled the horcrux, I pictured Harry and Hermione as bubbles, not really whole figures. Just head and shoulders, nothing else.
I liked the movie overall though. It was intense, and I think it really earned it's rating of PG-13.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Open Discussion

I totally forgot to add the part of the Dursley's not being in the movie in my review! I hated that! They only showed Vernon and Dudley's backs. We didn't even get to see their faces! And I was angry that they didn't even have the Harry-Dudley handshake as well. But when Harry was in the cupboard, it made me cry. I also hated the fact that they didn't show Voldemort killing Harry's parents either. I was looking forward to that scene. And they didn't show Ariana Dumbledore's grave! I hate how they always never put in the past of the characters in the movies. They never showed the Gaunt family and now those who haven't read the books won't be able to really know Dumbledore's past as they never got to know Voldemort's.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Open Discussion

I am sort of confused about which thread is for what too, but i have a question to those who have seen the films. When Bellatrix sees the snatchers with the sword and tortures Hermione and speaks to Griphook does she mention the cup being in her vault?

Do you remember at all what Bellatrix says to Hermione or Griphook? What questions does she ask them? That is very specific, so if you don't remember i completely understand.

Yeah, I'm really sorry I don't remember. But I really don't think that Bellatrix says anything about the cup. I have to see it again to really see what I missed. The first time it's really a lot to take in.

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Open Discussion

Yes it is. I totally understand. Thanks for the response though.

I think if she mentioned the cup though someone would probably have remembered. I just wonder why the trio are going to decide to go to Gringotts. In the books they make it clear that she was afraid they were in her vault and they think it may be because she has a horcrux. It may just be the same in the film. They could then just have Harry touch the cup and then he will realize that it is a horcrux. There are ways they can get around the fact that Harry doesn't have any idea what objects the horcruxes are.

I don't remember Bellatrix say anything about the cup.

My *only* disappointment with this film is that I found Malfoy Manor rather rushed. I wish we could have seen Bella actually using Crucio on Hermione. HOWEVER, there was a scream that came from Emma that made my stomach lurch. It was agonizing.

Thank you sacred for mentioning that! I thought I was the only one who felt that Bellatrix should have actually used the Cruciatus curse on Hermione. Some people who hadn't read the books felt that there was something sexual going on with Bellatrix on top of Hermione and then Hermione screaming at the top of her lungs.

My interpretation was that Bella was holding Hermione down in order to carve 'Mudblood' into her arm.

Not quite sure why Bella couldn't subdue Hermione with magic. But that's a nit-picky point. And it didn't bother me that the torture scene was not explicit, since suggestion is often far more disturbing (and anyway, the rating prevented it being more explicit). I liked the emotional intensity of this scene, because Yates -- and Emma! -- really make you feel for Hermione's plight. In fact, I like how the film highlighted Hermione's precarious situation as a Muggleborn.

I am surprised that more people haven't asked about the Silver Doe scene. I thought it was very beautiful and mysterious.

Too worried about the dance scene/locket Harry/Hermione kiss to care about the rest I would imagine.

Uber jealous of the few of you that have seen the film. Friday morning can't come soon enough!

So I saw the movie last night here in the Netherlands. The theater was sold out. I loved the movie, it was very dark and there was a lot of action. The shots were beautiful!

Yet to see the film due to work and an aversion to opening weeks but based on the reviews from critics I trust, the film seems to be pretty much what I expected.

Overall, good, but it carries over the weaknesses of the book -- the introduction of yet another maguffin (the Hallows) and ploddingly paced, esepcially during the camping sequences.

And, like me, they agree that the split is a blatant money grab.

I've seen the movie and there was no way they could have incorporated all the plot-lines into one movie. How could they have had all what they had in part one and the battle of Hogwarts + Gringotts? It's just too much.

Of course making more money was another incentive for WB to split the book into two movies, but it *clearly* is also for the fans and to give the movie the best possible send-off. I'm sorry, but I found it slightly offensive that you called it a "blatant money grab."

Re: Deathly Hallows Part 1 - Open Discussion

I thought the film was amazing. Even though they couldn't fit in all the storylines from the book. It was scary when it needed to be, funny where they could be, sad when it should. And I'm glad they cut the camping scenes short. To be honest in the book they just didn't seem to end.I loved the added scene where Hermiony whipes her parents memory and the way Hedwig died was better than the book. In my opinion this was the best one yet, feel free to disagree ofcourse :P

I really liked the movie, though I agreed with the Malfoy Manor scene being rushed. Overall though was good, but hard to really judge without seeing part 2. It was a good experience going at midnight though and seeing a lot of people unleash their inner nerd for Harry Potter.

Also, Dan Rupert and Emma are amazing.

I agree. Hermione wiping her parent's memory is one of the most memorable scenes in that entire movie even though Harry (the main character) isn't really in it. I really loved it. I cried so much. And I agree about the Hedwig death. It was better in the movie as well. She tried to protect Harry and got hit by the curse...it's so sad
