Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I started reading the books at age 7 too and am now 17! It is hard to say how it has affected my childhood because it practically is my childhood. I honestly do not know who I would be without the books.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I don't remember how old I was when I started reading the Harry Potter books, but I'm almost 17 and its hard to remember a time when there wasn't Harry Potter! I don't know if they have changed my life, but I am definitely a huge fan!! (and I always will be) Before HP, I didn't really like reading, but after reading it, my eyes were opened to the wonderful world of fantasy, and I can't get enough! (but HP will always be my favorite)

I can't believe the series is almost at its end Its like my childhood is ending...

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I'm 16 right now and watched all the movies. I started this year to start reading the books because i could not fluidly understand them when they first came out (I was 7 or 8 and a sporty kid who didnt read alot). Its the first time i read books for non-school purpouses.

So i guess i can consider myself as a Harry Potter child since it grew up in my household (brother read all the books too.)-- For the record im 15 turning 16 next month--

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

Harry Potter has been with me for about 10 years, from 9-19, and I don't consider it ending there, either. I consider myself a Harry Potter child, having had Harry grow up with me, but I'm not sure how much of an influence it has been on me as a person.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I read Harry Potter in 5th Grade, but heard of it in 4th Grade. The last book came out when I was in senior year of high school. Harry Potter has probably made a big impact on my life.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I started the books at 11 and will be 22 when the last movie comes out. So, yes, you could say I'm an HP kid. I think the books have been something of an influence on me, although I couldn't say to what extent. Being a fan of the books also gave me something in common with a few classmates in school, with whom I'm still very good friends.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I should like to think so, what with the fact that I started the first one in January of 2000 (at age ten) and how I'm almost 21 now! In addition, the Harry Potter novels and films have made a huge impact on who I am and how I act today. Furthermore, I simply can't imagine a Potterless world, no matter what I do.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I'd say so -- I was 11 (first year!) when I first discovered the series. Now I'm 22... so the series was clearly a big part of my formative years, and I couldn't be happier about that.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I'm sorry to say I'm not... I was 10 when the first book came out, but I wouldn't have been able to read it back then. I understood English, but reading would have been a bit too much. I read the first 4 books in a span of about 2 weeks back in 2003, and in Dutch. I really regret waiting so long to read the books!

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I would consider myself a Harry Potter child. I certainly grew up with the books and the movies as they started to come out. I don't think the books altered my moral beliefs in any way, though I certainly have always considered the HP series to be my favorite book series. I've read many books, including educational classics for school, and although I have liked many books and plays I have read, not one other book or series has been able to compare to Harry Potter. Harry Potter has always given me the opportunity to use my imagination and create the world J.K. Rowling thought of. Now, with the help of the films, I can imagine what something might look like using various mental concepts from the film and combining them with the words I'm reading. It's really a great experience reading the books and watching the movies, especially now that I am older. It's great to re-read books especially as you grow because you tend to catch more and understand the theme and plot the more times you read something.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I was about 7 or 8 years old when I read Philosopher's Stone and became obsesssed. Although I was always a bookworm, no series has ever captured my interest, time and love as much as H.P has. I have read the books and watched the movies multiple times and it saddens me as I feel the release of the second part of the Deathly Hallows movie will symbolise the end of my childhood as I move onto University but I will never move on from Harry! <3

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

The Harry Potter books never really had an influence on me until HBP and TDH came out. When I was in 4th grade my parents forbade me from reading the books, which only made them more interesting to me. I read them all but wasn't a self-described "Harry Potter nut" until recently. I am not a Harry Potter child, I am a Harry Potter adult. I was never able to fully comprehend the moral messages in the books until now. The books keep me grounded. They remind me about the importance of love and life and family and friends, and for those lessons and messages I am forever grateful. I feel sorry for the people in my former church who genuinely believe the books are "from the Devil".

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

Yes, I was definitely a HP child. I started reading when I was 8. And I'll be 19 when the last part of DH comes out. It was my first fandom and I remember I was so crazy about it. I've always loved magic and have always had a very big imagination. The HP books were the first books I read over and over. I also got into more heavy books because of HP. This series will forever be my favorite because of their influence.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I started reading the books in my early 30's, however, that doesn't mean I am not a Harry Potter child. Every new reading of the series, and there have been several, makes me feel like a child. Excited and overwhelmed with wonder. It's a pretty cool thing to feel in your 40's, trust me.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I started reading the books when I was about 8 or 9, and I have loved the series ever since then! I think this series has really grown with me; in fact, my sister and I just last night had a discussion about how similar and different Harry and Lord Voldemort's upbringings were and how much that affected each of them. But now I'm getting a bit off-topic.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I started reading the series when I was 11 and I will be 23 when the final film comes out. HP is my childhood - I think it definately help shape me as a person. All I know is that it used to ( and still does) provide comfort and joy for me - I don't think i will ever get sick of the story or the fandom. It has also introduced me to alot of my friends who I initially bonded with over shared HP love.

I am also getting more from the series as I am growing... I understand the morals, emotions and philosophies alot more - not to say i didn't when i first read it, but like Fang chewing on a Dragon Bone, I knew there was something there even if I couldn't fully digest it.

I can't wait to introduce my future children to the wizarding world.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I'm not a Harry Potter child in the traditional sense. I started reading the books in my early twenties and still in college. Now I am a high school teacher and I teach kids who are very close to my age when I started reading the books. BUT I think I am a Harry Potter child due to the fact that it turns me into a big kid. I love being able to share in the enthusiasm and excitement of my kids (students). They were all jealous when I told them I was headed to the midnight premiere, they were clamoring to hear how I liked it Friday morning, and they couldn't wait to tell me they'd seen it on Monday. I love that HP is a great equalizer and turns us all into kids (even my 62 year old mom who is seated next to me and tearing through OoTP at the moment).

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I was 8 when I started reading the series and I'll be 18 when the last film comes out, so I will have finally caught up to the trio I do find it weird reading the books because I still read them from the perspective of however old I was when I first read them, so I read DH thinking that all the characters are really grown up in it and then realise that I'm that age now, and I can't imagine people I know doing all the things Harry & Co. do and surviving it.

I'd say that the series has definitely influenced me. I'm always trying to relate things in my life to things that happen in the books to help me with any problems and if someone says something that opposes any morals from the books then I always defend the books

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?

I first read it when I was 5, and now I'm nearly 16 - it's been almost my whole life. I can't believe that I started reading it when I started school in year 1, and Deathly Hallows part 2 will come out next summer, at the same I leave compulsory school! I can't remember life without Harry Potter!
