Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I read the first book when I was six-ish. I did grow up with them. My Mum loves Fantasy, and our whole family are avid readers. She found the books when the thrid one came out, and I was three when the first film came out. At 14 now, I love them, so much. Until she let me, I used to bug her about them all the time, and she only meant for me to read the first one, not all the ones that she actually had. I was so young that she wouldn't let me see the movie in the cinema, and I'm pretty sure I pretty much attacked her to let me go.
When I was 11, I almost cried that I didn't get a letter. For the first few months, I hated my Secondary School so much, I really should have been at Hogwarts.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
To be honest, I can't remember the age when I started to read the HP books.
I think it might have been when I was 11. My books have been written on the front page of the date when I received them, so that should help me a bit. But yes, I believe that I am a HP child. I have read all of the books throughout my teenage years. And for the HP actors it has taken a decade of their lives as well. Although they may be getting sick of making the films, I believe they are the luckiest actors in the world, to have had the opportunity of starring in these "movie event of a generation" films. Millions of people around the world would give anything to star in the movies, me included. So if they do make these movies a decade on, there will be plenty of people auditioning for the role! (:

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I guess I am more of an Harry Potter teen. I saw the first movie and then I read the books, of course out of order. I read PoA first the GoF, then I read them all in order.
But this is why I love PoA so much, it kind of introduced me to this whole new world. After that I have read the books so many times that I have lost count, seen the movies many many many times too. Sometimes times goes by with me having nothing to do with Potter, but then something always happen and I am bag being the fangirl I am. So Hooray for Potter (and JK) for offering me a way to escape reality when I need to.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
Wow - I have to completely agree with you! I was introduced to the movies first, and then the books. The Sorcerer's Stone came out when I was five, so it wasn't really like I could read the books first. But even seeing the first movie, I fell in love. Harry Potter became a huge part of my life, despite me being so young. I also agree with the statement that even though there are some periods of time when I have nothing to do with HP, something always draws me back in. The recent release of DH1 literally made me obsessed with the series. Some of my friends think it's kind of ridiculous, since I'm a teenager, but it goes without saying that I've loved HP since I was a child. I've grown up with the series, and I can't believe that it's ending soon.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I am, for sure. XD I remember that my brother, Harrysahorcrux on here, started reading them, and they sounded so awesome, mysterious, full of action and adventure, everything. I was really young, I'm not sure how old I was exactly, maybe five or so, but I pretty much wanted to start reading 'big' books and such because my brother was so into Harry Potter and I wanted to read them, too! So, I think that's around the time I read the first book, and I loved it. No idea on exactly how old I was, though. :P

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I was 8 or 9 when my mom bought the books for me (she worked at toys r us, a toy store in the U.S.A (I know there are people all over the world here)) and she read them to me for my bedtime story and I always wanted her to read more of it..I saw the movie when I was in 4th grade when the first one came in theaters and I fell in love with it. I am 18 now and still love it. I'm obsessed with it..and i had the quidditch playset and candy and alot of harry potter products...I have posters, dvd's, videogames and all... I'm proud to say i am a harry potter child/teen... My mom is a fan of the movies aswell!
i've seen all countless times and know all the lines to all the movies. I love how I can escape to this magical world and let my mind wonder off..it's amazing! it's deffinatley become a HUGE part of my life! I'm so obsessed with it that I skipped school just to see harry potter cos, and I hated going to school because I wanted to be at Hogwarts with Harry (my true love..lol) and I always drew a scar on my forehead like harry's and dressed up as harry for halloween like 6 times in a row and I wished for my letter to hogwarts...Now that I graduated I just escape to harry potter videos and books and etc to go to hogwarts! I also spoke parseltounge (like harry in cos) in school. i did all book reports on harry potter.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
Definately
I think I was about 10 when I started reading them, and I'm turning 22 next May! I can't believe how fast that time has gone. It actually took me a couple of tries and some coaxing from my Mum (who had read and liked the books, up to PoA at the time) to get through the first book, but once I did, I was hooked! I can distinctly remember staying home from school one day because I was sick and all I did that day was read, that was the day I first read 'Hermione's Secret' in PoA, she was my idol back then ![]() I kind of wish I could go back to those days, everything was so easy and innocent!

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I was born in '94, and I just looked at my copy of the sorcerer's stone, and it was signed May 2000 as the purchase date. Looks like i've been reading harry potter since i was 6, until 2007, or until i was 13. from 6 to 13 is definitely a cataclysmic kind of growing, so i'd say im definitely a harry potter child. hasn't affected my morals or beliefs so much, but its definitely impacted my childhood. it gave me something to look forward to, it was basically a symbol of my childhood. Now, I'm 16 and I use harry potter as something like escapism... if i've had a hard day at school or something i read a couple of chapters before bed. it helps because its like immersing myself in a childhood adventure again, and i really kind of forget anything else i'm doing when i read HP.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I received CoS as a Christmas gift when I was 10 and for some reason never read it. The next year, my friend started re-reading the series in preparation for the PoA movie, and I was curious so I started with CoS and my obsession sprouted from there. I'm 18 now and can definitely say that I've grown up with the books.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I'm definatly a Harry Potter child
![]() I started reading tham at 6, but I didn't understand it, so reread them when I was 7 or 8. The series has definatly influenced my morals/ beliefs. Dumbledore is, after all, a very wise man, and much can be learned from him When ever I feel lost, I can find my Dumbledore quotes (yes, I have my favorites written down on a piece of paper), and reading a couple that relate to my situation will always help. It's practically a religion ![]() Actually, it might be better than a religion, because no one's forcing you to believe in something, threatening that otherwise you will end up with the devil after you die. (Just kidding Really. I'm completly and totally kidding.) |

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
Yes, and I'm grateful for it. Read the series as it was released - started when I was 11 back in 1999.
The one thing I do regret is never re-reading the books, at all, until just a few months ago. I'd read the book once and that was it. I wish I had revisited the books more, but definitely making up for that now, lol.

Re: Are you a Harry Potter child?
I probably picked up the first book when I was 13, in 1999. I'm 24 now, so Harry Potter was a huge part of my life during all my teenage years and more.
Being only a few years older than Harry each time a new book came out means I was really able to identify with the characters and put myself in their shoes. I think the series and the choices of the characters influenced me a lot. Last week on PostSecret there was a secret that read, 'I said no to drugs because I didn't think Harry Potter would approve'. I totally understood the feeling!

I became a fan of Harry Potter when I was 6, but I was just a fan of the movies. When I was around 10, I decided to read the books, so yeah I consider myself a Harry Potter child.
It's been such a huge part of my life, the books as well as the movies. I'm almost 16 now. I can't believe it's been 10 years since I was introduced to Harry Potter.
