Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter One
Warning-there will be some violence later on in this chapter. However, it's still rated PG.
Note-I apologize for any spelling errors. I am writing this under the covers at night. This fic also does not go along with DH when it comes to Ginny's age. She is 17 in this story, because in chapter 4, we find out that she can Apperate.

May 3, 1998

Ginny Weasley was sitting outside, thinking of the previous nights activitys. Last night was the Battle of Hogwarts; it was the worst night in her life. She ran her hand over the soft, dewy grass as she glanced up at the starry sky. The full moon was casting pale, soft light over the garden. She looked back down when she heard footsteps coming her way. Ginny could not beleive her eyes- approaching her was one of her enemy's, Draco Malfoy. He was not, as Ginny noticed, wearing his ordaniry sneer. Instead, he looked nervous and uncomfortable. Almost as if he wanted to talk to her but didn't know what to say. However, he made the attempt:

"Ginny, I'm here to apologize," he started, "I just can't help feeling like what happened in the Room of Requirement was my fault.'

She answered with a soft sniffle. What happened last night in the Room of Requirement was what made last night so terrible for her whole family. To hear Draco Malfoy apologizing was perhaps the wierdest thing she ever heard, and she has heard a lot of wierd things. Like that one time Fred... Even thinking about her brother was painful.

"Draco, it isn't your fault. How can it be?"

But Draco didn't answer. He had heard a distant cracking noise, as if someone had just Apperated behind them. Suddenly, he heard a familier voice scream an incantation-

"Stupefy!" shouted his father, and Draco saw Ginny fall over next to him. As Draco saw his father get closer, he saw that he was half-supporting, half-carrying a Stunned family friend- Fenrir Greyback.

"I warned you, Draco," he said. "I warned you not to come here. FINETE INCANTATUM!" He screamed the charm with his wand pointed at Greyback, who ran arround the back garden, chasing Draco, finally catching him, biting him, and running into the forest. Lucius gave his now unconsious son one last look of disgust before Disapperating. Once he Disapperated, the spell he used on Ginny lifted. As soon as it did, Ginny looked arround, saw Draco, and screamed. Her friend Hermione must have been downstairs at the time, because she ran outside to where Ginny was knealing next to Draco in an exceptionally short amount of time.

"Ginny," she whispered, "I'm going to make a Portkey. We need to get Draco to St. Mungo's."

She grabbed a twig that was lying beside them, pointed her wand at it, and said "Portus." Ginny just barely touched it when it transported the three of them to the dark, quiet lobby of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.

I'll try to update soon. I hope you liked it! Oh, and don't worry-this will be a Draco/Ginny story.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 2
May 3, 1998
9:30-ish PM

Ginny and Hermione looked around for someone to help them. Hermione was trying to stay calm, especially since she could tell that Ginny was panicking and didn't want to upset her more. They noticed that one of the portraits on the wall moved. It must have left to alert the staff of their sudden apperance, becuase moments later, three members of the staff walked in the room. One of them tried to talk to Ginny and Hermione, but Ginny was not paying even the slightest bit of attention. Apparently she was asking questions about what happened, because Hermione answered, but Ginny's mind was still overloaded with emotion. She was still trying to stay strong and not show that she was upset, but she didn't think she could hold it in any longer- as soon as the small group of Healers used a levetation charm on Draco and brought him upstairs, Ginny, who was told she was unallowed to follow, started crying softly.

"Ginny, it's going to be okay." said Hermione consolingly. "I mean, it's okay that you're upset, but it's going to be fine."

"Hermione, it's just that I really hate this place." sobbed Ginny. "Every time I come here, I see someone I love hurt."

Ginny thought for a moment about what she just said. It was only the third time she was here, but she didn't remember the first at all, because it was the day that she was born, so she only considered the last two times actual visits. The last time was in her fourth year, when her dad was bitten by Voldemort's snake. Of course she loved him, but she said every time, including this time. Was it really possible that she loved Draco Malfoy?

Hermione must have had the same question, becuase something exreamally rare occured- Hermione was speechless.

"Did- did I really just say that?" Ginny asked slowly.

"Yes, Ginny. You did. How long have you felt like that about Draco?"

But Ginny didn't answer, because she wasn't entirely sure. How long had she felt like that? She decided to ask Hermione a question, hoping to change the subject.

"Um, do you think we should send my parents an owl telling them what happened?"

"That was what the Healer was asking me about." said Hermione "She said that she will let them know what happened and where we are. Now, back to what I just asked you, how long have you felt like that about Draco?"

"I really don't know, Hermione. I just can't be sure. I think he's changed, though. He came tonight to apologize to me. He blamed himself, which he never does, for what happened to-"

Ginny turned away so Hermione couldn't see that her eyes had filled with tears. She knew that Hermione would just say that she knows how she feels. How could she? Half the time Ginny wasn't sure how she felt.

Luckilly, one of the Healers from before came in. Ginny was glad for the distraction.

"Miss Weasley," she started "you can go in to see your friend now, if you want. He is asleep, though. Anyway, if you want to go, it's first floor, second door on the right."

"Hermione, would you like to come to?" Ginny asked quickly.

"I think I should wait here," Hermione replied "in case your parents send an owl or something. You go ahead."

"Okay, thank you!" yelled Ginny happily as she ran down the hallway. It's just like Hermione said, she thought. It will be okay.

I hope you liked this chapter! It's my favorite so far. I made a thread in the F&B book club so if you have a comment, suggestion, question, etc. feel free to post it there.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 3
May 3, 1998
10:00-ish PM

Ginny ran down the hallway, and through the specified door. She skidded to a halt and looked arround the ward. It was almost just as she remembered it, but emptier, as Draco was the only person there. He was starting to look better already; some color had already returned to his pale face. She sat down in a chair next to is bed and held his hand between her two small ones. Unable to fight the impulse, she bent down, kissed him gently on his forehead and whispered, "I love you."

At that time, Draco's eyelid fluttered open. He squeezed Ginny's hand and replied, "I love you, too."

Ginny bent down and enveloped Draco in a big hug. Tears of mixed emotions spilled down her rosy, freckled cheeks. "Draco, I'm so sorry," she began "none of this should have happened. It's me your father is so mad at."

Draco stopped her and said "My dad might be really mean, but that isn't anyone's fault but his own. Please don't blame yourself." He paused before adding, "in a way I'm kind of greatful for what he did tonight."

"Why's that?" asked Ginny, confused. "Did Greyback make him go insane?" she thought.

"If what just happened didn't, we would never have had this chance to talk." Draco answered, as if it should have been obvious.

Ginny was overwhelmed. She thought it wouldn't be good for Draco to be, so she changed the subject quickly.

"You probably should try to get some rest," she said, despite having no experiance in medicine. "Just try and go to sleep. I'll stay right here with you."

She squeezed his hand, as he had done to her, and within moments, his eyes where closed again.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 4
May 3rd, 1998
11:30-ish PM

Ginny heard the door open She looked up to see Hermione holding a letter in one hand.

"Hi, Ginny," she started "how is Draco?"

"I think he's okay." Ginny answered distractedly.

"I've gotten a letter from your parents. said Hermione "They said that if you want to stay, you can, or you can Apperate home when you're ready."

"I'm staying." Ginny said firmly "I promised him I'd stay."

Hermione gave Ginny a hug and walked back out to the waiting room. And for the rest of the night, Ginny stayed with Draco, holding his hand, and replaying their short conversation in her head.

I know it's really short, but I hope you liked this chapter. I really enjoyed writing it.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 5
May 4th, 1998
10:00-ish AM

The only sound in the room was of the wind outside. Ginny jumped when she heard the turning of a doorknob. She looked up to see Hermione, two of her brothers, Bill and Ron, Bill's wife, and Fleur enter the room. She was surprised, yet glad, to see them. Ron, on the other hand, looked absolutely furious. He was glaring at Ginny and his ears where bright red, the way they always were when he was angry. He turned arround and walked out of the room. Ginny ran after him, knowing what was wrong before Ron spoke.

"Malfoy?!?! " he screamed "You are in love with Malfoy?!?!"

"Is it really your concern, Ronald?" she yelled back.

"You're even starting to act like him!" argued Ron, starting to go even darker red.

"Right now I'd rather be like him than you!" Ginny screamed, starting to go red herself.

"He is the reason our family was torn apart last night, and you want to be like him? That makes no sense!"

"Draco is not to blame." she insisted, tears starting to form in her eyes.

"I see no proof supporting that rediculous claim!" Ron shouted.

"Well, I see none supporting yours!"

With that, she turned away and walked back to where her family and friends where, but not before hearing her brother Disapperate. She entered the room, expecting to be asked where Ron went. She was right. As soon as she entered, everyone asked where Ron was. She told them all what happened, and Hermione said she would go to find him and try to calm him down. Her parents tried to change the subject by asking Ginny exactly what happened, but Ginny felt as if she couldn't answer. Instead, her mind was once again in an emotional freefall. She snapped out of her state of shock when she heard someone running down the hallway, the way she did the previous night. The door opened, and in walked a panicked-looking Narcissa Malfoy.

Again, it's pretty short, but I felt this was a good place to end the chapter. Don't worry- there will be more character development for Draco.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

I'm sorry it took so long to update, but I had really bad writers block. Anyway, I hope you like this chapter.

Chapter 6
May 4, 1998
10:15 AM

Draco awakened at the sound of his mothers gasp. He turned his head, saw her, and smiled weakly. She ran over to him and started crying from a tidal wave of mixed emotion. Ginny moved over and stood between her father and Fleur, so that Narcissa could get closer to Draco.

"I only just found out what happened." Narcissa sobbed, "Your father was acting strangely, so I put some veritaserum in his pumkin juice this morning. He told me everything. I've reported him to the ministry and he is awaiting trial in Azkaban." She broke down into fresh sobs. "I'm just glad that you're alright."

At that moment, Ron and Hermione came back into the room. They both looked shocked about something, but Ron looked as though he regretted his angry outburst. Hermione began to speak.

"When I went back to the Burrow to find Ron," she began, "I saw that the Daily Prophet had arrived." She showed everyone the newspaper she was holding. "And this was on the front page."

On the page she indacated was a picture of Lucius Malfoy sneering up at them.

"Ginny," hermione began, "I thought you told me everything. If you had told me this," she shook the paper, "we could have reported him right away."

"Hermione, I'm sorry!" Ginny gushed, "I guess I forgot."

"I-I wasn't blaming you!" stammered Hermione. "I know how upset you were last night."

They stopped talking and looked over at Draco and his mother. They seemed to be talking about something serious. A moment later Draco called for Harry, Ron, and Hermione to come over. They glanced at each other and seemed to nonverbaly decide to go over, although unsure what to expect.

I'm sorry this chapter is so short and ends in a cliff hanger, but I thought it would be a good place to stop so it flows into the next chapter well.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 7
May 4, 1998
10:20 AM

Hermione quickly glanced at Ron and Harry. They looked extreamally confused, but Ron was trying to mask his confusion with lingering anger. As the three friends aproached, a million questions raced through their minds. Hermione spoke first;

"Draco, what's wrong?"

"Nothing." he said "I wanted to apologize-to all of you-for the way I treated you at Hogwarts. I know I was awful, and if you still hate me, I understand."

Harry, Ron, and Hermione still seemed shocked, and Hermione was the first to break the ice by sobbing like Draco's mother was moments before. She bent down and pulled Draco into a huge hug. Though Draco looked shocked at first, his wide eyes quickly narrowed as he winced. Hermione looked down and saw that she must have been squeezing too hard, the way she used to when she was little, even too young to got to Hogwarts or even knew it existed. She let go, and apologized, her face red with embarrasment.

Ginny walked over to see what was going on. At the sight of her brother shaking hands with Draco, she knew that she didn't need to ask.

Again, I'm sorry this was such a short chapter, but I thought it was nessecary for flow. I hope you liked it!

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I'm no longer doing the time and dates at the top of each chapter. I hope you like it!

Chapter 8

Ginny sighed with releif; she absolutely hated it when her brother didn't get along with her friends. She looked up at Draco and smiled softly. He returned the smile, but didn't look sincerely happy. She glanced quickly to Hermione, hoping she would know what was wrong, but Hermione only shrugged. She must have seen Ginny's worried expression, because she whispered to Ron and Harry, "Maybe we should go."

They agreed, and left the room with Ron's family, except Ginny, following closely behind. Ginny and Narcissa walked closer to Draco, their eyes asking him the same silent question; "what was wrong?"

For the first time in a long time, Draco felt his eyes fill with tears. But what where they from? What was he really feeling?

"I'm scared", he heard himself blurt out in a whisper. "What's going to happen when people find out what happened? The-the monster I've become?"

More tears leaked from his eyes. Ginny's hand flew to her mouth, her eyes widening in shock.

"You don't really beleive that, do you?"

Draco didn't answer. His mother said to him,

"Please, Draco, don't say that! You know it isn't true."

He still looked unconvinced. Ginny knew she wanted to help him, but how? She grasped his hand and squeezed it again. She could tell he was trying not to cry. Leaning down so her eyes where at the same level as his, she whispered, almost inaudibly, "It's ok to cry."

She stood back up, seeing that Narcissa was still trying to console her son, and felt Draco's warm tears splash gently on her arm, her hand still holding Draco's.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 9

The quiet was inturrupted by the door opening. Apparently Hermione was waiting outside. She came in holding a letter, as she did the previous night.

"Ginny," she said, "this is from the Auror Office. They want you to come to Lucius Malfoy's trial and tell them what happened."

"What? Why? I hardly saw anything;I was Stunned!"

"Which is someting they need to know," Hermione said calmly.

"I don't think I can do this," Ginny protested. "What if I make a mistake? What if it's still an unfair system and they want to-to punish Draco or something?"

"It's not like it was before." Hermione insited, "It's a lot more fair now. Kingsley Shaklebolt is minister, now, and he's going to be there. And besides, they can't punish Draco for this, what has he done to cause this?"

Ginny sighed. She turned to Draco. "What do you think I should do?" she asked.

He didn't need to say anything. His exression told Ginny is answer.

"Okay," she said confidantly "I'll do it!"

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Note-Wow, chapter 10 already! It seems like just yesterday when I got the idea to write this! I just want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this.

Chapter 10

Hermione left to send an owl to the Auror office with Ginny's answer. Right after she left, Ginny sighed.

"I can't beleive I just agreed to this."

Narcissa smiled gently. "Thank you- so much- for doing this. For Draco."

Draco nodded. Ginny bent down and kissed him on the cheek.

"I know this has been hard on you," she whispered, "but I'm here for you."

Draco was about to speak, but once again, Hermione entered. Her brown eyes were frozen wide and she was extreamally pale.

"Ginny," she said, sounding dazed, "you'll never beleive who I just saw."

And in walked Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 11

Draco and Ginny stared.

"What-? But-? How-?" Ginny looked just as shocked as Hermione.

"But.., Hogwarts! Didn't-didn't...How?" Draco sounded like he had never been so surprised.

"Yes, yes, I know!" said Tonks, rolling her eyes. "Well, it's called Polyjuice, in case you forgot!"

"I still don't understand!" Draco said.

Tonks sighed. "Some of Voldemort's supporters were Imperioused into taking Polyjuice potion to turn into us. They were hoping to learn of Harry's plans and tell them to Voldemort. But not all of their allies knew of the plan-obviously Bellatrix and Dolohov either didn't or forgot."

Ginny, Hermione, and Draco's shocked expressions turned into expressions of happiness.

"This is amazing!" shouted Hermione.

"It is, it really is! But wait a minute," Ginny said, "how did you know we would be here?"

Lupin laughed.

"How couldn't we?" he asked, "this is all over the Daily Prophet, the Quibbler, everywhere!"

"It-it is?" Draco asked quietly.

Tonks and Lupin exchanged a glance; they seemed to know exactly what was wrong.

"Please don't worry, Draco." Narcissa said, squeezing his hand, "It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. We love you."

Draco smiled, his eyes filling with tears.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 12

"Ginny, can we talk to you outside for a minute?" Lupin asked, as Tonks walked over to him.

"Um, okay." Ginny said. "I'll be right back." she said to Draco, and he nodded.

The three of them walked into the waiting room and sat down. Ginny, sensing that she knew where this was going, started the conversation.

"I just wish there was something I could do to help him!" she burst out, "It's so apparent that he's upset, confused, scared!"

Lupin replyed calmly, "The best thing you could do for him is be there for him."

"And we're here for you." Tonks added.

"And if Draco ever needs to talk to anyone, just let me know," Lupin added.

"Thank you. I'll let him know." Ginny said smiling.

Just as they were about to go back inside, Hermione and Narcissa walked towards them, Narcissa looking panicked and upset, and Hermione was trying to console her. Behind them, a team of healers were walking towards Draco's room.

"What happened?" Ginny asked, more worried than she was the previous night.

Note-Yes, a clifffhanger. Mwa-ha-ha-ha!!!!! I'm an evil writer, I know. I'll update soon.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 13

Hermione, who was the calmer of the two, answered Ginny.

"I came back in after I sent that owl to the Auror office," she started, "and when I came back, Draco didn't seem to be feeling to well. He was really pale and kind of clammy. So I left to find someone I could ask to see if this was normal. By the time we got back, he was unconsious. They said they think he was allergic to the bite. They said that's not very common-apparently only about one in 10,000 people are. But they said they can't be sure yet. I think they said they're doing some diagnostic charms, or something."

Ginny stared in disbelief. She was shocked that this was even possible.

For an hour, the five of them waited to find out what what was happening. Narcissa was biting her lip and staring straight ahead. Ginny was avoiding making eye contact with anyone by staring at her hands, which were folded in her lap. Hermione looked over at Remus, silently asking if he knew anything about what was happening. He shook his head, frowning.

Ginny took a deep breath, tried to calm herself, and told herself that everything would be allright.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 14

Within another hour, the same healer from before came back out to them. She explained what was going on.

"Well, we were right that he's allergic. We're going to keep him here untill the next full moon to see how he reacts. But right now, he's all right. If anyone wants, you can go in."

Ginny and Narcissa got up immedietly. They half-walked, half-ran to where Draco was; after the nervousness, uncertainty, and stress of the two past hours, they couldn't wait to get there. Opening the door, they walked in quietly.

Note-I'm sorry this chapter was so short, but I feel that it's nessecarry for flow.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 15

The second Draco opened his eyes, the only thing he could see was Ginny's bright red hair. He was getting used to Ginny's tight hugs, but this one was unlike the others.

"We were so worried. Are- are you sure you're okay?" asked Ginny.

Draco noticed his mother standing next to them. He noticed her mouhing, 'do you want some time alone?' He nodded, still holding Ginny as Narcissa walked out the door.

Draco finally answered Ginny's question. His pause before answering seemed to scare her more; she was holding him tighter and breathing faster that before. He began to run his hand gently through her hair, trying to reasure her that he really was okay.

"It's alright," he mumured, "I'm okay. Don't worry."

Ginny wanted to beleive him, but how couldn't she be worried? She continued to refuse to let go of him.

The door opened abruptly, and in walked Harry, glaring at Draco, and looking furious.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 16

"What are you doing here?" Ginny asked, turning her head to face Harry.

She remembered when the two of them had dated briefly in her fifth year. She quickly reminded him that they broke up over a year ago, as that was most likely why he was so upset. He sighed, his angry facade melting, though Ginny was getting angrier by the second.

"I just want what's best for you," he said, "and this isn't."

"But- but you aren't in charge of me! Who are you to say wether or not we can be together?"

This question seemed to have an impact on him. They both glanced at each other, trying to make the other understand.

"I love you, Harry" Ginny said softly, tears starting to sparkle in her eyes, "but not the same way I love Draco. You're like a brother to me."

Harry nodded. He started to walk out the door, but before he did, he turned around and said, "I love you, Ginny, but not like you're my sister. Oh, and Draco; try not to make her mad. Her stinging jinxes? They really hurt."

With that, he walked away and left for the Burrow.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Chapter 17

Ginny watched the door close. Shaking her head, she said, "I can't beleive he just did that."

"But he's right," Draco sighed.

"What are you saying?" Ginny asked, worried that she knew where this was going.

Draco didn't meet her eyes when he answered. Finally, he whispered, "He said that he wants what's best for you. I do, too. That's why we can't be together. Now, I'm too unpredictable, dangorous. I just don't want to hurt you."

Ginny didn't know what to say; she felt as if the floor was pulled out from underneath her. She had always suspected that Draco had some problems with confidance to begin with. But now it was much worse. His father's trial was in two days; she vowed to herself that she was going to do whatever she could to get him sent to Azkaban for a really, really long time. He would deserve it, after all. In fact, Ginny felt that he even deserved the Dementor's Kiss. She still couldn't beleive that anyone could purposly put someone through what Draco was dealing with.

She was stunned when she heard herself speak.

"You know that isn't true," she insisted. "Please don't say that."

Draco didn't seem to be listening to her. Ginny knew it was time to go. Feeling like she was moving on auto-piolet, Ginny walked out the door and back to the waiting room. As she sat down, Narcissa stood up and went back. Ginny then told Hermione exactly what happened.

Chapter 18

Hermione gasped. "You must have misheard him," she insisted.

Ginny shook her head. "I know what I heard, Hermione," Ginny sighed.

At that moment, Tonks stumbled through the window hole. Standing up, she looked around and saw Ginny and Hermione. "Sorry I had to go," she said, "we got an owl from my mother. Teddy, he was napping when we came, woke up. Remus is going to stay with him until I get back." She then saw Ginny's puffy, red eyes.

"What happened?" she asked.

As Hermione explained what happened, Ginny was trying not to cry. When Hermione got to the part about why it happened, Tonks gasped.

"I understand exactly what happened now." she declared. "I can talk to him if you want."

Ginny remembered why Tonks said she could relate. She flashed back to that night two years ago; June 28th, to be exact.

Ginny heard herself speak; "Uh, can I ask you something?" she asked.

Hermione recognized Ginny's body language, and went into the other room.

Ginny stared at her feet before asking, "A few nights ago, at The Battle, well, no one thought that you and Remus survived, but you did. Well, I was wondering, was-was there anyone else?"

Tonks took a while bfore responding. Finaly, she said, " I wish I could say yes, Ginny, I really do, but we were the only ones."

Ginny started crying again. "It's just that I can't beleive that in less than one minute our family was ripped apart like that. We had no time to-to prepare for what w-was going to happen." Fresh tears began to sparkle in her eyes. "I really miss my brother, Tonks."

Tonks couldn't help but cry herself. Her hair rapidly turned from bright pink to pale brown. She hugged Ginny, and Hermione quickly came out and joined in giving Ginny a big tight hug. They didn't even notice that an hour had passed.

Re: Opposites Attract- a Draco/Ginny story

Hi, everyone. I'm sorry I've been away for so long. It was due to a combination of writers block and power outages. I still have the writers block, but chapter 19 will be posted soon.
