Talking about crashing. What do you think will happen when all those zillions of fans try to enter the site at the same time in six days?

I do not like this at all. It is keeping me from studying for my exams. Why does it have to happen now and not after the movie comes out?

Besides, another cool thing is that each one of the other 9 sites that released a letter is a fansite, not a portal for gaming. And the tenth site was pottermore itself. So that means it has to be some sort of fansite.

And yet, I just figured, she would not include the fansites in something that would probably render them bereft of a chunk of users. I am not saying everyone will be dedicated to pottermore only if it indeed is a fansite, one can of course be a regular at a number of sites, but considering this will have Jo's stamp on it, it will definitely become the most popular one. And the kind of praise its getting hints at something visual, and visceral. Maybe its a role playing game which is littered with information and clues?

What with this and the new trailer is anyone else feeling a tad nostalgic?

I have actually given up even trying to guess what's going on but these 6 days are going to drive me crazy! I couldn't get involved with the co-ordinates as I had a big exam yesterday to revise for but it's done now so can read all these posts without feeling guilty!

It's the opposite for me; I can't feel excited enough because of my exams, (hopefully, when I'm done with my physics' final tomorrow, I'll feel as excited as I should be..).

Speaking of the timing, as much as I'm curious about it, I agree that perhaps a month after DH 2 comes out would have been a better timing. Considering how everybody would be really sad because it's all over, having this announcement made, would have had an amazing effect lifting our spirits!

Yes! I was so busy lately and exhausted that the final trailer and the news about this mysterious Pottermore have made me very emotional about Harry Potter again. Now I'll start annoying everyone around me about that for the next two months.

I scanned through several pages of this thread and it makes me so sad I can't really get excited over this. I've abandoned the Harry Potter discussion on here and even though I was mightily excited to see DH1, and can't wait for part 2, I just can't be more than mildly curious about this site. I remember when I used to rummage through JKR's official website in hopes of new stuff almost every day. Now there's an entire new site and I don't really care all that much. Sad.

I disagree, I think releasing it before the movie is better because it ups the hype for the movie and this, and when we're starting to feel as if Harry Potter is ending they're giving us something else to remind that it isn't ending, and probably never will. Although I do have to complain about it being announced the day after my last exam, how am I supposed to get revision done if I'm too excited for Pottemore?

Isn't that weird that it only shows 18 views? I think this whole you tube thing is fishy. Why putting a flash file there, when you can host it anywhere. They can still link to the official announcement video later.

Just being on CoS again is a huge nostalgia trip. I used to be hooked on this site back in 06-07, but haven't really spent much time on any forums since then, HP or otherwise. Just seeing a lot of the old familiar names on here, posting and checking back for responses, adding the smilies , and coming here first thing in the morning hoping for new news ... HUGE nostalgia trip!

I wonder if Jo is doing it this way in part to give the old fandom time to reassemble itself on favorite fansites and just enjoy the feeling of endless speculation and debate again. And probably to make sure the news has time to filter out to everyone who would be interested in hearing it.

It is all a bit strange! Could the channel views thing be a glitch? The Pottermore twitter gained followers so quickly that it was still showing only 200 followers for a while when it had over 15,000 at that time, and I've heard of glitches on youtube videos that get a lot of views in a short space of time and the right amount of views doesn't show up. I've subscribes anyway and made sure I checked the box for email notifications when anything is uploaded

What was the Quest for the Hallows?

I love that it's reuniting the fandom for me it's a chance to really get thrown in to something as I'm still fairly new to the whole fandom thing, having missed out on the pre book 7 hype.

The Quest for the Hallows was set up by WB to promote the part 1 DVD release, there was a website where you could watch clips/play games/download wallpapers, that kind of thing, and each thing you did earned you points to unlock prizes such as behind the scenes clips etc. But it really was a bit rubbish I have a lot more faith in something coming from JKR's side



Edit: Has the icon in the corner of the address bar changed? I swear it was something resembling a sorting hat yesterday, and today it's just a white P on a purple background.

What if the announcement is just that? What if the eal launch of whatever it is, isn't until September 1st or something?
I mean, with the movie coming up, it'd be too much to release something else right now... I'm thinking in 5 days 21 hours and 30 minutes we'll only get a video of Jo talking about this project, maybe with a short preview... and then we'll have to wait more for the actual thing!
It's just an idea that crossed my mind.

I think that's very likely and would be the most sensible. At this point they would want focus on the movie.

Considering all the things it's been TM'd for, a one-stop shop for all things Potter with part of sales benefiting Jo's favourite charities. RPGs are a definite possibility (and ones scripted by Jo, at that), as the website states "Harry Potter and Pottermore Publishing Rights © J.K. Rowling" even though the name itself is TM'd by WB.

I'm not sure I like the "providing multiple-user access to a global computer information network; providing on-line chat rooms and electronic bulletin boards for transmission of messages among users in the field of general interest; providing on-line communications links which transfer the web site user to other local and global web pages; providing on-line facilities for real-time interaction with other computer users concerning topics of general interest" part, as it would be a direct hit against fan-run forums considering Jo herself is backing it up...

Then again, they had 3 years to build it - I'm sure it's "hype-worthy" enough.

Definitely with everyone on the nostalgia trip, just gutted that work now gets in the way of me coming straight on here and immersing myself in discussions until my eyes are crossed and my fingers aching!

I really have no idea what this could be, I'm just glad to be along for the ride once again. I'd almost forgotten the, excuse the pun, magical feeling of a JKR announcement.

Does anyone think that the setting the Owls are placed in the 'video' is of any significance- a clue of some sort? For example, the background looks quite barren, autumnal yet with a neglected air...and, obviously there's more Owls arriving in anticipation for...whatever it is they're gathering for? Thoughts?

JKR would do that, just to make us even more excited.

But, back to the setting thing I posted above...and any other subtle things that anyone's spotted to do with this? JKR does like to distract us/pull red herrings in order to conceal the truth; smoke and mirrors and all that...is there anything in the video (including setting ) that could give us a clue about...anything, really?
