When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I'm a middle school girl, and the only one I know who never wears makeup. I think it's rather innapropriate to pile on so much foundation and eyeliner at my young age. My question for you is: at what age did you start to wear makeup? At what age do you think it is appropriate to start wearing makeup?

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

The first time I wore make up, I was twelve, but I didn't wear it regularly at that age, in fact I don't wear it regularly even now at eighteen. I wear it very rarely and when I do it's always quite light.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I wore simple makeup (lip gloss only) when my mom allowed me to in junior high. (between ages of 12-14). I was allowed to actually start wearing in when I turned 16. I very rarely wore it in high school though. Mainly because I was in drama and the heavy stage makeup did funny things to my skin. Even after high school and into college, I rarely wore it. I probably started wearing it on an almost daily basis about 4 years ago. I was 29 at the time.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

When I was in high school. I did it for prom, but overall I didn't wear it that much. Still don't either, since I'm not that much of a fan of it.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I started wearing makeup 7th grade, so when I was 12. I only wore eyeliner. I blame my older sister haha. That and the fact that when I was in middle school, acting "emo" and punk was all the rage, and I hung around a lot of emo kids so it was normal to wear eyeliner then.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I was about 13 years old when I started wearing makeup. Of course, back then I didn't really know too much about the right makeup for your complexion so I probably wore too much.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I have been wearing makeup for dance performances, ice shows, plays, etc. basically all my life.

But for every day use, I didn't start until I was in 9th grade...so around when I was 14. And even then I was just using a spot cover up because of acne, I didn't start wearing eye makeup until when I was 15, and I didn't even wear eyeliner until I was in 10th grade. I never wear lipstick except when I'm performing with my dance group.

When I was in middle school we actually weren't allowed to wear makeup...especially mascara.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I started wearing it regularly when I was 10 but that was more just to fit in with all the other girls. :P I'm 17 now and I mostly just use a little eyeliner on top and mascara and that's it. Face makeup can be such a hassle IMO.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I wasn't allowed to wear makeup for a long time. In middle school I was allowed pressed powder to help cover some acne, tinted chapstick, and clear mascara. At most.

But by my sophomore year of high school, I was allowed to wear whatever I wanted and I took that to heart! I started purchasing Urban Decay and experimenting with colors. I'm in college now and still love makeup.

Looking back, I'm glad my parents didn't want me wearing too much makeup as a kid because now when I see girls in 6th of 7th grade wearing tons of makeup it really just makes them look cheap! Plus you are so naturally beautiful at that age, it's best to just embrace that

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

Well, my parents refused to let me touch make-up, even when all of the other girls in my sixth grade class were pasting it on to their faces. Of course, that was waaaaay too young to be putting on makeup anyway. I did try mascara for the first time though, sneaking it out of my mom's makeup bag and thinking she wouldn't be able to tell I was wearing any. I knew that she knew, but she had never said anything to me, so I think she was letting me start to try things out on my own.

I started kind of wearing makeup in seventh grade, lip gloss and eye shadow, but not very much. I attempted eye liner in eight grade, which was a nightmare, and then blush, which I definitely didn't need. My cheeks were always so naturally red that my friends would call me Elmo. -_- Thankfully, that color has left. But by the time I was a freshmen in high school I began frequently wearing makeup, much to peoples' surprise. So that would be about 13, 14 years old, I think.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I started wearing it when I finished school at eighteen, though I wanted to use it earlier. I was bullied severely at school, especially about my looks, so if I'd worn make-up there I'd have only drawn more unwanted attention to myself. -_-

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I started wearing makeup at 13. It was never anything crazy though, just some light powder, and maybe some mascara or lip gloss. Sometimes some eyeshadow, but it all looked pretty natural. Once I hit mid high school I started playing around with makeup more. I experimented a lot, but again even though the colors got crazier, I never wore much more than eye makeup. I am not a huge fan of foundation, I usually go without.

I think that there isn't a real problem with makeup, as long as the person putting it on knows what they are doing and how to make it look not clownish. I see a lot of my little sisters friends putting on foundations that are too dark, lipstick that doesn't suit them and then topping it all off with extremely heavy eye makeup. It sort of makes me cringe, but I figure they will eventually learn some balance and even themselves out.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I never wear make-up, only cover-up on days when my acne is SUPER bad, or special occasions, but even then, it is very light. I'm 16. I think, nowadays, society would deem late middle school an alright time to wear make-up, but I wouldn't wear until high school - that's what I think is acceptable.
In my city, if you wear heavy make-up in sixth grade, girls in high school, will call you a slut. Sorry. There is a good chance that would happen.
I think that if you don't want to, you shouldn't. Don't let people bother you, they're just jealous you're confidant enough to go au natural.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I used to play with sparkly kids stuff when I was young, but only wore things like eyeliner and lipgloss around 13 when I went through a must-look-hardcore-and-rock phase.
I started wearing concealer around 15/16 if I got really bad dark circles under my eyes, but it wasn't an everyday thing.
Now -3/4 years later- I use make-up to even my skin tone (same dark circles issue) and it's a combo of tinted moisturizer, concealer and powder foundation. I never used liquid foundation, I would just cake it on my face and it would look terrible. Sometimes brightly coloured lipstick because it's fun.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I would play around with different colored eye liners in 8th grade (last year of middle school) but I didn't wear it to school. I was allowed to wear makeup to school when I started high school and I have been ever since.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I started probably when I was about 11. I started with like powder and eyeliner and blush. Then probably when I was about 13, I wore everything-foundation, mascara, eyeliner, lipgloss. I wish I had waited as long as possible to start wearing it because I only started just to be cool or whatever. I had good skin and didn't need it. Now I have bad skin (acne, uneven skin tone) and I so wish I didn't have to wear it!

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I was 14 or 15.

I used to wear a lot as a teen when I was more insecure. I only wear eye make-up now generally.

Re: When Did You Start Wearing Makeup?

I am 21 and I have yet to wear makeup. Lol.

I was never girly when I was younger. Also my older sister caked on makeup and I was repulsed by that so I decided never to wear makeup when I was 11(sister was 13). (I may have worn a lil lip gloss and glitter, that was it)

Also, my skin never really broke out and all...and idk, I was a teenager! So when I got a zit I was like "oh well"...
And even now I only break out when I use the wrong lotion on my face or the wrong hair product.
I knew a girl that use to wear too much makeup and her skin got so bad, she had a rash all over and had to stop wearing makeup, because she wore way to much like every day and it clogged her pores up...
So point here...DO NOT WEAR TO MUCH COVERUP!
