Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
*Gulp*
I think I want to do it. I'll have to get an idea going first, though. Anyone have tips as far as before-hand planning, outlines, and the like? I'm afraid I've never been much of a planner.

You don't have to plan if you don't want to. Some do. Some don't. It's whatever you're comfortable with.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
I just talked to a friend about this. I was all excited and she told me she thought it was pointless & impossible.
I am now 10 times more motivated. ![]()

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
Impossible??? I have won like 6 times, sometimes upping the word count to ~65,000 instead of 50,000, so of course it's not impossible. How silly.

If you're a writer it's fun. It's also good practice.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
You know I think I might do NaNoWriMo next year. If I did it this year...which I haven't started anything...It's just not going to work. But I want to maybe try it next time around. I'm not a very determined person, so we'll see how well that goes, but it sounds like a cool idea.
However, the thought sometimes intimidates me...

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
Yeah, that's why I'm going to attempt it. I do love writing, but somehow I've never actually managed to finish anything. I'm hoping this will be the motivation & practice I need.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
Two of my friends wanted someone to do this with them for moral support, so I have agreed and signed up for my first NaNoWriMo!
I'm looking forward to it, I like writing but lack motivation, it's taken me a year to write 15,000 words of my still unfinished fanfic so I'm hoping this will at least help me write more efficiently I have a plot idea that's been in my head for a while, so I'm excited to actually get it down on paper next month. I've already started planning because I know I'll need to.Has anyone ever been to write ins in their area? I've seen on the forums on there that there's a fare few people from where I live who meet up, and they're arranging something for this year which I'll try and go along to if I can ![]() |

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
I've just signed up for the first time this year. Writing 50,000 words in 30 days sounds like a great idea, because the time constraints means that I've got an excuse if I end up writing rubbish, so it should hopefully rid me of the terrible fear of failure which stops me writing a lot of the time, and at least I'll get something down on paper.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
I participated last year for the first time. I think i made it just over the halfway point. I spent most of october outlining which helped. However im not sure Ill be participating this year but I will still be writing during that time. Im knee deep in a story currently, which is the story I started last year for nanowrimo. Its grown from 25kish words just after nano to over 43k words now. Im hoping to finish it soon
Maybe that will be my goal for nano rather than 50k words in november, finish my project from last year ![]()

Also, you don't need to have anything prepared before November, you can always check out the NaNoWriMo forums for some GREAT plot ideas and just run with them. I think that's part of the excitement of it. I've tried planned NaNo's and unplanned NaNo's and the unplanned was a LOT more fun. I had no idea what my characters were like when I first started and I got to watch them blossom before my eyes. Also, when you're trying to work with a pre-planned idea, it's much harder to allow yourself to stray from those ideas. You are already attached to your characters/story and it becomes easier to get bogged down by the fear of messing up. So, dive in this year and give it a good go. If you only get 5,000 words (or only 5 words), it's still more than you would have had if you didn't try. ![]() Quote:
**By the way, if anyone wants to "friend" me on NaNoWriMo, my author name is "cacollins," and I look forward to watching everyone's progress in November.

I can't wait for November to start. I hope I write a coherent story this year.

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
I have a quick question about the two sites for NaNoWriMo... there's the 'young writer's program' one, and the 'adult' one. I qualify for the adult site, because I'm definitely over 13, but I also qualify for the YWP, because I'm younger than 17. To be honest, I'd much rather participate in the adult one, but I fear it may be too presumptuous and folks may look down on me. Thoughts?

Re: NaNoWriMo 2011!
I always participated in the adult Nano, even though I was 16 the first time I joined. From my few interactions with the people on the site, I found everybody quite friendly. Besides, you can choose not to show your age, can't you?
