For the Greater Good
For the Greater Good "Severus, please." Severus's face was there; full of hatred, but as Albus watched him, poised on the final moments of his life, he couldn't help observing the face more than he should have should have done. Albus almost sighed; it was natural that he did this, as he usually had moments where observed things deeper than he would have done. This was one of those moments. Then, as Severus was about to perform the spell that would put Albus to a glorious rest, everything seemed to slow down. Thank goodness, thought Albus, as, although this was a strange sensation, it gave him time to observe Severus. There was something in that dark face, Albus noticed, something other than hatred. What was it? Was it fear? But, he thought, almost sighing again, he had told dear old Severus time and time again, killing him was nothing to fear. As he had said, it was all part of the plan. An odd thought was, over all this he was thinking about Severus, the pain seemed to be spreading fairly quickly through Albus's frail body. Where was it coming from? He seemed to know the answer immediately: it was a year ago that he obtained a curse from a ring, which, before he destroyed it with the Sword of Gryffindor, was a Horcrux. However, this pain did not seem to bother Albus. To him, it was nothing, a far-off detail, like the fact that a small bead of sweat was dripping steadily down Severus's forehead. So he didn't think about it. Just another odd thought. Then, one word came back to him: Horcrux. Could Harry do it? Had he, Albus, a mentor for Harry through these troubled times, left enough information for the boy to locate these objects, and then, somehow, destroy them? Perhaps not, but now was far too late, now he was on his death bed. Not literally, of course, but again, another odd thought. Horcruxes… Horcruxes… Hallows? There was a twinge of guilt as Albus thought about the Deathly Hallows. Should he have told Harry? No, of course not, then he would have to tell him all about Gellert… Gellert. Another thing that made Albus feel guilty. But should he? Questions were filling up Albus's head, perhaps for the last time, but what more could he do? (Yet another question, he noticed) He had lived such a full life, a life worth living, and now it must end. But, as Gellert said, all good things must come to an end. For the Greater Good. "Avada Kedavra." And the Greater Good had ended at last. ---------- Feedback is much appreciated! I apologise if there are any spelling mistakes etc. as this is only my second fanfiction and was a spur of the moment, really. Thank you for reading! ![]()
