Given clues 4 and 5, I think we are beyond the point of preparation! I think the majority of fans who are remotely familiar with the books (or, potentially, even the movies) will be able to solve Clues 6 and 7 if they are in line with 4 and 5! But it is certainly fun to speculate and prepare. As Dumbledore said, "Just in case."

I would also like to announce that the Pottermore All-Inclusive List has (finally) been updated with a near-complete compilation of The Magical Quill challenge. The summaries of Days 1-5 and of the registration process are on the opening page, but the most recent post also includes an in-depth analysis of pre-clue (July 31, Day 1) information and of Clue 1 and the fan excitement surrounding it.

We hope this is still beneficial, if for nothing but a reference, and we apologize for the delay in posting all the information. We are very excited to see Pottermore creeping nearer!

I would have thought so too. But this morning, I was live blogging the registration period and actually had people asking the answer to the clue in the Comments thread. I referred them to the Table of Contents.

So I think I'm not assuming at this point that we're dealing exclusively with committed fans. I think some are interested in the "event."

But hey, part of the Beta test process is to get members on the site to test the load - right? And part of the purpose of Pottermore is to get those members to read the books.

On the more committed side, though... there was the lovely experience of being able to help a parent (with a very disappointed child) who had been trying unsuccessfully to get in all week. But they went through the clue list I posted last night, looked up all the numbers, multiplied them by 21 in advance, and were completely prepared for (and successfully completed) this morning's challenge.

At any rate, these are the reasons I think speculating on possible clues is still worthwhile as a means of helping others prepare.

And of course, it's always just fun.

Re: Pottermore v7

I have a question...
Does anyone think that when it was said that the e-books would have "competitive prices" that it meant it would be free? I kind of want it to be, because then, a lot of other people would want to read it ("it's famous and it's free, GOTTA BUY" sort of thing) but since I've read them all anyway, won't matter to me. Any thoughts?

I highly doubt that they are free but I wouldn't be surprised if they are much cheaper than the hard copies.

I'm certain they won't be free. I could imagine JK doing them for free - I mean, she has more money than she and her children could ever reasonably spend or at least doing them for charity. However, you have publishers that have suffered a massive drop in profit since the release of Deathly Hallows in 2007 and need new ways of keeping a steady profit going. By releasing the books as e-books it will create a new influx (though still considerably lower than during the original print runs) of revenue.

Also, in saying that it will be "competitive prices" implies that there will be a price, rather than free which would be no price at all.

Re: Pottermore v7

Thinking out loud about the next clues, the easy ones have all been directly related to the book title. The number of champions and the number of the house of HQ. So I think it's save to say that the last one will be "How many Deathly Hallows are there? Multiply that number by 7." The alternative would be how many "Harrys" escape from Private Drive, IMO.

Now that leads us to clue number 6... What kind of number could be related to the Prince? (How many halves does his blood have? LOL) The title chapter is number 9 and "The Flight of the Prince" is chapter 28... Honestly I'm a bit lost of ideas here. We do know that the multiplier will be 14 (if the pattern holds)

Good luck to all preparing to get in today!

Remember to write down your username AND password and don't share that information!

If hackers have your name, they can crack your password. That is what hackers do! Especially if you have a really cool name, people might get jealous or giddy and want to take over it/ruin it for you. (sad but true).

Actually..."Because of a shrewd arrangement with her publishers Bloomsbury and Scholastic (or possibly just a short-sighted one on the publishers’ side), Rowling retains the digital rights to the seven Harry Potter novels."

Re: Pottermore v7

I think Clue 6 will be something like "How many pieces did Voldemort decide to split his soul into?"

Re: Pottermore v7

Since the last two questions were so terrifyingly hard, I think we'll have to watch out for the last two clues! Honestly, don't worry.

From the same article: "She [JKR] is not, however, completely turning her back on hands that fed her — her publishers around the world will get a cut of e-book sales and will no doubt benefit from the “halo effect” of an uplift in print sales. "

Re: Pottermore v7

DO you guys think pottermore will have a friending system? i have friends that i've made on here and friends in real life that have joined pottermore and would obviously like to 'friend' them on pottermore. but i know precautions are being taken to keep members 'safe' i mean a website full of over a million people will be pretty lonely when you can't activly chat and help each other out?
maybe im wrong

Hi Pixiepuff, I reckon it will have some kind of friending system, from the image of the Gryffindor home page from Pottermore its seems there is an active list of what other users in your house are doing! almost like a live feed! if thats the case they have to have some kind of instant messaging service. Either that or a House Forum? but i think it will only be for people in your own house! Fingers crossed Ravenclaw!!

Re: Pottermore v7

From what I've heard you can add friends to your profile on Pottermore and then challenge them to duels, for example. I have written down some of my friends' Pottermore names, in case I need to find them in the site.

Re: Pottermore v7

I have a question about the times: I live in the U.S. in EST, and someone mentioned yesterday that Day 6 clues are this morning and Day 7 will be tonight. Is that true?
