Re: Pottermore v7
Spots as beta testers were on first come first serve basis, whoever found the quill and registered the quickest got the spot. It wasn't talking about time of access, just who got to sign up. At least, that's how I read it.. Basically, we're completely in the dark about emails. None of us can really do anything but speculate... It's kind of clever of them, actually, it keeps up interest.

Didn't even think about that. I guess that would make sense instead of doing it the archaic way I'd have done it. We can all hope that they don't think like I do. ![]() |

Re: Pottermore v7
So, going back to the whole "background on the welcome page" topic, there are 6 owls in the picture right now. Will the seventh bring our welcome email? I think so.. They've been using the 'Seven' theme a lot lately. Do we have any idea how long each of the other 4 previous backgrounds were up? That could give us some kind of time frame for this one..

Re: Pottermore v7
Hi all, first time poster - but long time guest!!
Im one of the lucky few to have registered on day 2, cant wait for the beta to start! Just wanted to add my thoughts about the anticipated release of welcome emails. I work in the IT industry, so have a little insight into how releases of info to large numbers normally happens. First off, theres mention of staff not working on weekends, so this might delay things. To be honest this would make no difference - it will be a totally automated procedure. They could come out in order of who registered first, but its actually more likely it will be in alphabetical order. The servers will have a specific load that they can handle per day, and they also have to consider the email providers load. For example they cant send out too many emails all at once who are hosted by hotmail, or gmail etc - they would slow down and possibly bring down that email server. So its entierly possible they will release a set amount per day across a varied list of email providers. This would mean the release if effectively random - and to be honest i think thats the most likely way itll happen. As to when - i imagine a date and time has been set, and when that is reached the servers will start to release those emails, there will be minimal interaction from staff to handle this. So those are my thoughts, the emails will come - but randomly with a relatively small number each day (by relatively small i mean in the thousands) Hope everyone is havin fun! ![]() |

When you say alphabetical order, do you mean our Usernames?

Re: Pottermore v7
It could be either, i think they will order the results firstly by email provider, then sort those by either username or by actual name - it will make little difference to their system. Im leaning towards a ordered list by email provider then randomly selected within that. I think that would be the only truely fair way to do it :-)

Re: Pottermore v7
Alphabetical order in username or email address? I do think they MIGHT just start in numerical order by the day of registration. That too makes sense. I was one of the lucky few who got in on Day 1. So naturally, im expecting my welcoming email any time now.

That same night a friend of mine who thought I was asleep tells me she signed me up (I didn't ask her to she just did it to be nice)... I got another validation e-mail like 5 hours later but just let it expire and never clicked it. I'm banking on my original account being safe as it was validated and I never clicked the other link. Will my account have an error? I hope not It was beyond my control... |

Re: Pottermore v7
I don't think Pottermore's process to send out welcome emails is completely automated. I believe they have to make sure first that everything is right, then they have to press a button to start the automated process. Therefore, the sending out of emails must start when they have working hours. The process shouldn't be random either, as it's almost certain that the first-come-first-served basis means that the first ones to validate will get access first. That's why the validation emails told us to be quick to validate. Also, the sending of the welcome emails is most likely done separately for each language, as the Pottermore website states.
