Well "OWL" be damned! I did the firefox thing and there are six owls there.

Thank you!

So before there weren't that many owls? Some people were saying that, over the past few days, the screen has darkened - but I haven't noticed that, either. :P

You new to right click on the welcome page and click 'view background image'. Then you should be able to count 6.

I see 3 banners - one on each side pf the purple banner. I see one owl on the right side of the little banner on the right of the purple one, and another owl on the left side of the page, in the sky near the lamp post.

I don't see a motorbike.

it seems that if your logged in you get the nitetime scene, if you log back out....it goes to the daytime scene

I reckon it's not the bike itself, but the head light between two of the houses?
My Blue--ish? Banners cover up both of the light post. So... I'm missing an owl. Something's different.

I agree with you that they will go first come first serve for the most part (I think they will have to be weary of overloading some email clients), but I see no reason for why they would need a human to start the process. I mean, you just have to give the server an algorithm and tell it to start at a specified time.

Im one of the lucky few to have registered on day 2, cant wait for the beta to start! Just wanted to add my thoughts about the anticipated release of welcome emails. I work in the IT industry, so have a little insight into how releases of info to large numbers normally happens. First off, theres mention of staff not working on weekends, so this might delay things. To be honest this would make no difference - it will be a totally automated procedure. They could come out in order of who registered first, but its actually more likely it will be in alphabetical order. The servers will have a specific load that they can handle per day, and they also have to consider the email providers load. For example they cant send out too many emails all at once who are hosted by hotmail, or gmail etc - they would slow down and possibly bring down that email server. So its entierly possible they will release a set amount per day across a varied list of email providers. This would mean the release if effectively random - and to be honest i think thats the most likely way itll happen. As to when - i imagine a date and time has been set, and when that is reached the servers will start to release those emails, there will be minimal interaction from staff to handle this. So those are my thoughts, the emails will come - but randomly with a relatively small number each day (by relatively small i mean in the thousands)

Hope everyone is havin fun!

This makes a lot of sense-thanks for the info

I got in on day 5- though I missed day 4 by about 10 minutes.

Im not implying that at all, the biggest gain of registering on any day was the final goal - of gaining early access, a huge benefit of getting access on day 1 was knowing that you had made it to the first million -without needing to worry about gaining access on subsequent days. The staff never intended for people all around the world (many of them being school children) to stay up all nite to register, and when they realised people were doing that they started to stagger the times. So by using that logic it would mean that people who happened to be in a convienient time zone would get preferential treatment over the rest of the world - because they would be more likely to register first. As for first comes first served - yup - the first million are the first come first served
If the whole process is automated, then why aren't the welcome emails coming yet? Beacuse the site isn't ready yet. They even removed the background images for the so-called 'moments' like this, beacuse they were visible if someone changed the referrer to "http://www.pottermore.com". They even got leaked, and they were posted on SnitchSeeker. One indication that the site is ready, would be that the moment backgrounds are up again. If they decide to give a new URL to them, we'll see in this CSS.

This is what's in the Pottermore Terms&Conditions:
Quote:
We will allocate places for early access to registrants on a ‘first come, first served’ basis provided that there will be a limit on the allocation of places by language.
Since there was no separate limit of registration for each language, I assume this sentence tells about how the welcome emails will be sent. First few from each language first, then the next people from every language, and so on.

well if it is random, then it wont matter who got in when :-) random is the only way to be totally fair. as the pottermore team didnt intend for people to stay up late around the world those first few days, i think its unlikely they will then give early registrations too much of a lead over everyone else

Re: Pottermore v7

Is there any Pottermore updates? I bet the first owls may begin to arrive tomorrow; because then the Day 7 48-hour validation period will be over, and it's a weekday.

Isn't the 48 hour period over in around two hours?

they arent coming yet because we have no way of knowing what timescale they are working towards. they have a huge system to maintain and every action will be timetabled very precisely. They have a strategy which suits their server load, and could well be waiting for a time when email servers have less traffic - which will be daytime during the working week, weekend email server loads will be much higher.

First come first serve to me means, the first million who register will get the beta spaces. If not then they could have very easily allowed day 1 registerents to access immediatly upon close of clue 7.

They probably need everyone to be registered before they can start sending out the emails. There is a 48 hour window to validate your account, so they have to wait until that is closed for everyone. Also, for all we know they might just now be sending out some emails for validation of day 7 (I really doubt it but you never know) and as there servers will be put under a lot of strain when people start getting in, it seems like a reasonable assumption that they will want them to be performing the least number of tasks possible

P.S. Sorry for the "chatting" mods, I just couldn't resist

Check out this: http://harrypotterforwriters.com/category/pottermore/

It has TONS of good information; whether you know some of it or not. Look under the post "What Will Pottermore Know?" and find a comment by a Roxanne, who posts a link to a YouTube video. It's of the Pottermore press conference. Watch the whole video, it shows a reporter being sorted and several other things. Really neat!

Re: Pottermore v7

I really think we should just wait until the 48-hour period expires for those who registered on day 7. I'm pretty sure they'll update the Insider tomorrow (British time) to clarify the details.
