How did you get out of the loop? I want to know because I've been stuck in it for over 2 weeks! I can't do anything at all, even blowing up my cauldron on purpose to try to get out of it as some people suggested did absolutely NOTHING. I feel like I'm going to be stuck in it forever at this point, unable to ever make a potion again.

Sadly, my advice is something you already tried. I was able to get out of my loop by blowing up my potion by waving my wand too soon. Did you contact Pottermore with your issue already? Because that is my only other suggestion, but that will definitely take some time to have them respond.

I went to the help section on the site and went to the part where you can write them a message. This was almost 2 weeks ago though now, shortly after my potion first started looping. Never got anything out of it.

I don't know how I will ever get out of this loop if even blowing up my own cauldron does nothing.

Not only can't I gain house points, I can't even lose them! This is just insane.
Same here. I ended up taking some sort of anti-Pottermore glee late yesterday by blowing up my cauldron 11 times in a row. And no, I didn't lose a point.

Wait...so we don't lose points for blowing up cauldrons, or this is just part of the glitch on yours?

I really hope all of this maintenance means dueling will be back.

It's probably part of the glitch but who knows....we'll have to see if someone who isn't stuck in the glitch accidentally blows up their cauldron and loses points.

Yes, you lose 5 points even if you're trying to get out of the loop (as long as it registers. There are times when it doesn't...it depends on some voodoo computer-ness at times, so you may or may not lose points). But, blowing up cauldrons generally always looses you points. At least, it did for me even when I was in the loop.

I have seen in the "Recent Activity" that people have sometimes lost 5 points for failing to brew something recently. I took that to mean that those people blew their cauldrons because there are a lot of failed to brews that did not lose points.

Usually if you fail to brew a potion but don't blow up your cauldron, you are awarded 1 house point for trying.

Not anymore, apparently. As of yesterday, I think that if you fail to brew the potion but don't blow up your cauldron, you neither get nor lose any points.

Oooo. Hmm, I've been stuck in potion-limbo, so I was assuming the former scoring. That's pleasant though, at least potion-loopers can blow up without fear of losing house points. Thanks ccollinsmith!

So... spells.

Spoiler: show
Apparently, the whole "second click when the circle is at its largest" is a load of crock. Following the instructions left me with 5 points less average for each spell than... experimenting with the circles.

Anyone else with a similar experience?

No, but can you elaborate on the experiments? This really sounds ominous.

Re: Pottermore v.9

Spoiler: show
Nothing sinister, really. I just cast the same spells over and over again, second-clicking on the letters at different circle diameters.

From what I gathered, different spells rate accuracy differently (i.e. some spells won't deduct as many points for missing the "center" of the letter as others would) and there are spells which rate accuracy higher than circle diameters.

There were also spells which gave more points for clicking on circles NOT "pulsing at its largest"... so I was wondering whether it's just my impression, seeing as martishon is not here to second-test it for me.

Did that make sense at all?

Just... go forth and experiment, all right?

Aye, Captain.

For what it's worth, when I could still access Pottermore, I noticed that the more difficult spells are much more lenient in terms of accuracy and that you're rewarded with a higher percentage for less accuracy in general.

With the new potions does the spoon still actually stir for everybody else? Just trying to brew a potion got to the stirring but the spoon didn't move but the number went up. Does that make sense? I hope it does! Is it a glitch or a fix for the stirring problem?

I've encountered that a few times, though not since they updated potions. I always assumed it was my laptop being slow or lagging, because it happened a few times. As long as the number still goes up, I wouldn't worry about it.

The one thing I hate is when brewing the Sleeping Draught, after proceeding with instructions one, two and three, I get to the Flobberworm Mucus ... and it won't lift! So no, I have to move the Mucus a little before doing everything else, so it'll pick up! Only minor, but it does waste a valuable few seconds.

Couple of questions:

Spoiler: show
Is the duelling feature down for you too? I hven't been able to challenge anybody yet!

What are we going to do once our money is gone? Will it refill after every "year"?

CONFESS! How many cauldrons have you blown up already?

And MOSTE IMPORTANTLY! Who else has A TOAD?

1) Yupp. My duelling's been down ever since I entered over two weeks ago. Haven't been able to try it yet, it's always been the maintenance message for me.

2) Absolutely no idea. I'd hope that they'd replenish it every year, much like Harry draws money out of Gringotts annually. A lot of the potions ingredients have to be bought and, while at first a galleon here and there doesn't seem much, it does add up. I'm down to 298 galleons right now, so I'm hoping they will refill it upon Chamber of Secrets' release.

3) Five at my last count! I'll admit it took me ages to get accustomed to potions. I'm just grateful that I've always bought the cheapest cauldrons. Imagine having to fork out for the more expensive ones!

4) No me I'm afraid. I'm a sucker for following the canon of the story and went with an owl, though with a Hedwig-style snowy owl unavailable (due probably to the fact that EVERYONE would pick it) I had to go with a barn owl. Aside from the canon, I find owls icredibly useful and loyal, they carry your post long distances after all. I hate cats and toads disgust me so! Well done on choosing a toad though, haven't come across many who have!

Duelling has been down since a couple of days into the beta. I never tried while it was working so I don't know exact details. It is down for everybody.

I think I read somewhere that the more money will be added at the start of every school year (it could have been the Pottermore insider)> so once you have got through that amount of money that was given and the ones you find that's it until COS.

Hand on heart I have yet to blow up a cauldron and I really hope it stays that way!

No toad but a barn owl whom I named Barney in my head!

Thanks for the answer Fools Gold, wasn't worried just wondering! (Sorry not to quote but after nearly 7 years I still can't do the multi-quote thing!)
