Guys, let's keep the Wand discussion reserved for: Your Wand on Pottermore

For analysis of wands, cores etc in relation with the characters:

I hope that you accept that we must treat all users of Pottermore the same. I have reviewed the problems you are encountering and can confirm that there are no issues with the website functionality - the answer is there and you will just have to keep trying.

As an alternative, please refer to the Help section or alternatively you may want to raise the issue you're having with the Pottermore community.

Good luck!

Kind regards,"

I really expected it to be signed,

"Hoping you are well! Mafalda Hopkirk"

I reported it again.
I am not sure I even understand their response! The same thing happened with my duels earlier, and I was able to get around it by using a direct link to an open duel with a specific house (ie - http://www.pottermore.com/en/wizards...uel/gryffindor). I completed the duel and the page went back to normal for me.

Thanks for the link!

My guess at the time was that the site was doing some maintenance on that part of my account. In case i was wrong I reported it, since I've never seen "This page has vanished" in only the dueling area before. I didn't even ask for a response. What annoyed me was the response i did get.

The issue has since been resolved.

This is interesting. I snarkily responded to the email, and I thought my response would be kicked back, but instead I ended up with no less than 3 polite replies in response. I was impressed. So, apparently, responding to the email goes into Pottermore staff's mailbox....

Here's the answers I got back:

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

Re: Pottermore v.11

I was finally able to sign up for Pottermore today, and I've definitely spent way too much time on it so far. It's entertaining, but I'm getting really frustrated with the spells. No matter what I do, my spell potency has never been more than 26. Is there some trick to it that I'm not getting?

Is Petrificus Totalus one of your spells? It's in one of the books that you collect. It gets the most points.

Are you using mouse or keyboard? Keyboard is easier.

When are you releasing? You should release when the circle is full.

I hope this helps.

Hey guys, I haven't been on for a while.. How does one get the body-bind jinx and others for dueling? They're not in the two books I have and I keep losing duels because I don't have any more powerful spells :P

You need Curses and Counter-Curses - red book on the bench to left of table Chapter 12, Moment 2

I see this a lot... I think I'm the only person who finds it way easier to use the mouse XD I panic when I try to use the keyboard.

Fair enough. What I said is not universally true for all users. There will be exceptions. But for people who have not found a successful method for dueling, it's at least worth considering as an option.

I find the mouse much easier because you are always using the same button, whereas the different keys confuses me.

Re: Pottermore v.11

Why are brewing times so long for potions, especially in first year? How would that even work in a normal length class (vs. double potions)?

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff...

The brewing times are shorter if you use a copper cauldron instead of a pewter one. When the Beta period started, brewing times were a lot longer. But after numerous complaints, they've shortened them. If you plan to brew a lot of potions, you may want to get a copper cauldron.

Interesting that the first year shopping list still says "#2 pewter cauldron". Maybe so they don't overheat?

A pewter cauldron is probably a typical beginner's cauldron. The pewter ones are cheaper, so it is better to use it when you are first learning the tricks of brewing potions.

I've have blown up a few copper cauldrons, but I blame the glitches in the software during the beta testing period.

A helpful hint - if you put in the wrong amount of an ingredient or stir in the wrong direction, you can often start over again by hitting the "back" button without ruining the potion. But it will use up your ingredients.

Yes. That would be my guess. I immediately blew up my first (and only) copper cauldron. Pewter is much safer and less volatile. But a lot of the top potioners love metal cauldrons.

Many Beta testers have extensive potions experience because dueling was down for months during the Beta, and brewing was the only way to earn points. Susan's helpful hint will definitely save you cauldrons.

Yep. Figured from my experience with cooking that copper transfers heat a little too well, so I've bought a brass one for now.

SusanBones - thanks for the info on the "back button" in potions brewing. I'm sure it will come in handy for me, based on my results so far.....

I'm confused. Isn't pewter a metal alloy? Aren't all cauldrons made of metal?

The cure for boils (my first attempt for points) took 45 minutes with a pewter cauldron. So another cauldron type would take less time? Would it be best to stick with pewter until I get better acquainted with potion-making?

Some metals conduct heat better than others, so yes, the brewing time should be shorter, but you have to be vigilent about temperature. I'm trying brass in the meantime, should be a bit quicker but less volatile than copper.
