Re: Pottermore v.11

Now that I can 'zoom in' there are a lot of things I'd missed before: trees moving, birds flying, books moving, etc. The new sounds are good, too. And Fluffy is truly scary!!

Is there a philosopher's stone to collect? It wasn't on my list, but someone mentioned it. Harry's hand moves but nothing shows up.

From what I recall, you need to be zoomed all the way out, then hover over Harry's hand (left, I think). It will move and the stone will appear so you can click on it.

I get that far -- Harry's hand comes into focus and moves, but nothing shows up. I'll keep trying; it took me several tries to finally collect the seaweed.

Re: Pottermore v.11

Is it possible you've accessed it already? It doesn't appear as an item in your trunk-it only unlocks extra information and then disappears. If all info for that chapter is unlocked, you might have clicked on it without realizing it. I had that happen to me with several items.

That must be it. I'd assumed because it wasn't in my Trunk that I hadn't collected it. I read about the Philosopher's Stone a long time ago.

The Stone is in his pocket; if it doesn't show up when you hover over it, maybe you have it already. I know I collected it, but it doesn't show up in my trunk, either. Maybe it was required to move on to the next chapter....trying to remember if that was it...

I learned that part [up&down keys] on my own but MerryLore helped me find a couple of items, including a book that was in "Spells" instead of the "Books" in my trunk.

I was never able to find much on Jo's old site without instructions. This has been much more fun, plus I like the extra information.

I didn't look to see if my points actually went up. If they didn't, no bother. It's not my duel and I don't want to get points unfairly.

I had no impending duels the first time it happened. It was actually the first (well second, I think I dueled a friend who had requested one) duel of the day and I hadn't dueled in months.

Re: Pottermore v.11

things have gone a little better for me. I can collect stuff, and I made an attempt to brew a potion. But, I ran out of time. there was a countdown clock next to the cauldron. I didn't know if I have any way to control how long the potion brews. I also tried dueling. I click on the very first letter of the spell, and a white line hits all the other letters, then they drop off the screen. I only stay on the site for a short period of time because I get frustrated.

Dueling is fun once you get the hang of it, but it takes a bit of practice:

1. Click on the first letter
2. When the circle that grows around it is at it's widest, click that letter again
3. Quickly move to the next letter in the sequence
4. As the line coming from the previous letter hits the next letter, click it
5. Click it again when the circle around it is at it's widest
Repeat steps 3-5 until the last letter in the spell has been clicked twice

Your points for the spell will be highest the more accurately you click when 1) the line is precisely behind the letter and 2) when the radiating circle around each letter is at it's widest.

Have fun!

Re: Pottermore v.11

So right now, once all of the chapters have been explored and all of the new material has been read, there are no more than two ways to interact with Pottermore; potions and duels. Are there any plans to add more?

Yes. There are plans to add content, new books, new interactivity. Mugglenet posted an interview with the new(ish) CEO a couple weeks ago. Sorry I don't have the link off the top of my head, but we should see some big changes in the future.

You can give gifts to those you've friended--and then go recollect those items from the stories again (some objects, some potion ingredients, all the frog cards.)

Here is the link:

http://www.thebookseller.com/news/po...rst-month.html

from the articleRedmayne added that the release of book two, The Chamber of Secrets, was still "weeks away", but that the site would be adding new interactive elements and community tools over the next few weeks. "It's a fantastic experience, but not yet as good as its going to be. We are working on book two now, I'm very pleased with some of the pages I've seen, and it will be coming as soon as possible."

Thank you, Susan. That's exactly what I was thinking of.

When I posted, I was flat on my back, iPad in hand, cat on my lap pinning me down. Looking for the link was just not happening.

There are other versions of this story that allow you to listen to Redmayne's comments directly. Here's one of them:

Except, I've had perfect duels (at least they look perfect from my end, but that's how it goes, right?) that only scored me 141's and not-so-perfect duels that earned me 143's and 144's... I've never gotten a 145, no matter how great it looks...

That has never happened to me. If I get 141, I know what went wrong. If I get 143 or 144, I know what went right. I do occasionally get 145.

If you had a "perfect" duel at 141, I'm guessing that your timing was off, no matter how accurately you hit the letters. Size of circle is more important than centering the letter. Absolute accuracy is essential only for 145.

all the letters disappear before I can hit any other letters. only the first letter grows large, not the rest.

ccollinsmith, I appreciate your help, but the lines were nicely centered under the letters, and the circles were nice and big. I've been dueling off and on since we were allowed to. As a beta tester, I have hated brewing, so dueling was my thing. I hit a 144 once, and I was off more on it that I was with the 141... Not trying to argue, just saying that dueling on my end of things is extremely unpredictable, inconsistent, and difficult...

General wisdom is for the second hit to come right before the circle visibly reaches its peak to ensure that the circle is not actually contracting by the time you hit it. If I am spot-checking with my eye and am looking to make sure that the circle is expanded all the way, I don't get 144.

If I consistently have my rhythm right (and am consistently making my second hit right before the peak), then I consistently get 144. If I have my rhythm just ever-so-slightly off, I get 143. If I'm struggling, I get 142 or 141. If I have a complete meltdown, I get 140 or below. If I'm rocking, I get 145. 144, by the way, does not have to be perfectly centered over the letters. It needs for the circle release to be perfectly timed.

I find the scoring so consistent that I can usually predict exactly what my score will be at the end of a duel. But I'm sorry that you're having difficulty.

I do find that the state of my Flash (and my computer) can make a difference. My smallest computer (a Macbook Air) is the most unpredictable. This computer is very predictable.
