Snape's Mission

I think Harry or at least Sirius and Lupin will put aside their differences to work with Snape sometime in the series. At least for Dumbledore's sake.
I don't see how it's avoidable. There has to be changes in their relationships.

If you can see past his prickly personality, huge ego and emotional immaturity, he's not such a bad fellow.

As for his mission, I still think he is going to be somewhere close to Voldemort and the Death Eaters and in grave personal danger.
The obvious isn't always wrong.
He will be spying for Dumbledore while masquerading as Crouch jr.

I also think that he will spy for Dumbledore but not as Crouch jr. as i always believe that the dementors will tell Voldemort that they've performed a kiss on Crouch jr.

Dementors can't talk, as far as I know. However, I wouldn't put knowing how to communicate with Dementors past Voldemort.

I doubt that Snape will be able to return to the Death Eater's in any capacity. I could see him trying to convince other people to joing the cause or maybe Dumbledore already had a plan in place if Voldemort came back in the way he did(a plan involving Snape's skills).

I personally wonder myself if Snape has already returned as a Death Eater (of course as a spy). It just seems to simple/obvious that Snape is the person that Voldemort refers to as the one who has left his service forever. I noticed that Snape seemed very awkward when Harry started to mention the names of Death Eaters he saw after he returned to Hogwarts. Perhaps(with Dumbledore's knowledge) Snape left the grounds to apparate in the graveyard. I guess that would be hard if he was at hogwarts later(eventhough he could have left soon after Harry left the graveyard). I am just trying to figure out the Snape's reaction to Harry mentioning specifi Death Eaters... Any ideas?

I'm probably reading Snape's reaction incorrectly but perhaps the reason he reacted so strangely is because the DE's Harry named are the ones he didn't know were supporters. I don't really think this is possible though since Snape is a sharp guy. He couldn't have believed Nott was a decent fellow. But his (seemingly) friendship with Lucius is curious.

Well, Snape was among the inner circle(at least I would speculate that he was the one that Voldemort said had left them long ago and would be dealt with). The other two he made reference to seem to have been Karkaraoff and Barty Jr.

If it wasn't Snape then I'd be really surprised and if it was him then he would know about the other Death Eaters among the inner circle.

It is possible that Snape started to say something about one of the Death Eaters that Harry had just named [Lucius?] but stopped himself when he thought better of it.

I think Snape will have to do some work with the old crown, why else would Dumbledore made him and Sirius shake hands, at some point they will have to work together. Because i wouldn't think Snape and Sirius would have to get along for them to do different things, they must get along because they have to actually do stuff around each other.

It is very likely that some of the "Old Crowd" will be closely involved in what Snape is going to do. It sounds like Snape may need some sort of "lifeline" because he is definitely going to be risking his life. His reaction at Dumbledore's words tell me that.

Could be that he had some comment about Malfoy. their relationshipto each other seems odd. i cant exactly put my finger on it it just seems complicated though. Snape is just such a hard person to figure out....

I know what you mean, Barbara. There are a lot of Snape threads with interconnecting theories though not entirely the same.

Snape's reaction to Malfoy being named a Death Eater by Harry in GOF has been troubling me for years.
Perhaps Malfoy knows a thing or two about Snape? Snape may not be as out of this as we think...

I always assumed Snape didn't know Malfoy was still a DE. But I didn't think that Malfoy has something on him.

I think Snape's mission is to either:
1)Protect Sirius when he goes to gather the old crowd.
or 2) To be Harry's secret keeper when he goes to stay with the Weasley's over the summer in OotP

Somehow I just don't see Snape as Harry's Secret-Keeper, but that could be why he would be perfect for the job.
