Re: Veronica Mars - TV

Intelligent interesting filmmaking has to make the filmmakers and actors feel like (oh dear, I can't spell that Greek trickster king's name!!) the one who embarrassed the gods multiple times, escaped the underworld once, and as punishment he was stuck forever pushing a rock up a hill and never getting it there.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

I love Veronica Mars and am so sad it was cancelled. As a LoVe shipper, I was quite disappointed with the lack of closure for Veronica and Logan. I just hate open endings. *sigh* What I would give for a VM movie...

I think the actors were all up for it, especially Kristen Bell. It's such a shame that this film will never be made.

It's a great series to get back to every now and then. I miss multi-layered, resourceful yet flawed female characters like Veronica on my TV.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

It's on us now. Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell have started a Kickstarter for the Veronica Mars movie, looking to raise $2 million. And they're already over 1. This thing could actually happen!

They've already passed the 2 million dollar mark in less than one day.

Rob Thomas tweeted that "it's a green light my friends"

Look at that, Warner Bros. Less than a day. I think we've made our point.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

Yeah, only $28 million to go.

P.S. These actors including Bell, the Mighty Mac, and Sheriff Keith all have serious commitments for the next 18 months. They can raise capital, but they have to write something that makes sense six years on (Veronica Mars maverick FBI agent? Veronica Mars ex Fibby PI? Veronica Mars, Sheriff of Neptune tasked with solving her...father's murder?). I trust Rob can write something and the actors will commit to it, but these people have serious long-term gigs (though Bell's choices have been...eclectic).

I'm assuming that first part is sarcasm/cynicism, but at this rate, and with a full month still left, I don't know that I'd be shocked if it does $30m. (It shouldn't take $30m to make a VM movie, though - I understand thinking of $2m as ridiculously low, but I'm sure Rob Thomas knew what he was doing when he set that as the minimum. Now it'll be more than that anyway.)

It's worth reading Rob Thomas' comments on that Kickstarter page, because he does go into the scheduling issues and give an overview of the story. I don't know what Tina Majorino's or Enrico Colantoni's commitments are that may get in the way of this, but I'm sure they, as well as Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs, Ryan Hansen, and Chris Lowell will be able to find/make the time for this. I think Kristen Bell would be on hiatus from House of Lies while this would be shooting. Anyway, this has nothing on Arrested Development when it comes to working around a crazy busy cast, but that's worked out okay.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

The first line was partly a joke, but yeah. He asked for $2 mill so he could show the studio idiots there's interest. But to really make a good, small movie with the cast back together, you'd probably need at least the figure I mentioned.

We don't yet know if Arrested Development worked or not. It's coming back, but we don't know about working chemistry or writing quality for the continuation. Talk to me at the end of the first return season.

I didn't even mean the quality of the revived show, I just meant bringing the band back together worked out despite that insanely busy cast, and so I'm sure any scheduling issues would work out with this show too.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

I'm ridiculously excited for this. I really hope it's not going to be an FBI story line though, because it would stretch my suspense of disbelief if someone like Veronica, with all her records, would become an FBI recruit. I prefer her as a maverick. But I would watch anything, anything. I miss Veronica Mars.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

You'd watch anything Rob would write and really put time into. The Dead Like Me reunion movie wasn't written by that show's creator, and it just crashed off the rails. It ended up feeling like a feeble money grab. Fair warning.

This is the show's creator behind this, though, so I'm not sure I take your point. Look, I understand your skepticism, and this certainly could be awful and not worth the effort and anticipation, but...I doubt it. Veronica Mars fans are generally going to be excited and optimistic about more Veronica Mars, and I know I am.

Agreed. It's understandable to worry before particulars are known but Rob Thomas is involved in this, so that's one thing we should not have to worry about.

Re: Veronica Mars - TV

Okay, okay. I want to be excited, but I've seen "reunion" and adaptation projects (including one "in development" project for this series already) founder, cheap out, or be utterly disappointing. I want it to be awesome. The fans (including me) would love it. Most of the actors really need it, and if this does get made Rob would really need it too because he'd have had to call in a bunch of favors and spend a lot of creative capital to get it to the screen.
