Mr. Ollivander and Voldemort's New Wand

Having seen the effects of Priori Incantem we know that Harry's and Voldemort's wands do not work properly against each other and one needs a new wand if someone is to win a duel.

It seems that Ollivander disappeared and he may have been taken my Voldemort in order for him to get a new wand which would make it much easier for him to kill Harry as the wands would not be brothers.

I acknowledge that it is the wand that chooses the owner and not the other way around, but maybe Voldemort will use Ollivander to create a wand that will suit him just as well but will also allow him to duel Harry without any unwanted complications.

If Ollivander was taken (and didn't just go into hiding), I think it is because Voldy wants to know what happened with the brother wands. I think it freaked him out a bit.

I nkow this is a bit off-topic, but, what happens to a wizard's wand once he dies?

I had the same thought as Nicole. Harry never shared that information with anyone. It's possible that no one else knows (apart from Dumbledore).

It's possible that Ollivander is making a new wand. That'd be difficult as the wand chooses the wizard.

Does anybody else find it interesting that despite his refusal to be accompanied by Dumbledore to Diagon Alley, Tom Riddle ended up with fawke's tail feather as his core?

Well, I assume he isn't that miffed about Priori Incantanem, because Harry didn't notice that he had a new wand in 'Pheonix'. Voldemort knows that his wand will work against Harry's unless their curses meet, and I doubt he'd let go of such a powerful wand that had served him so well over the years. I don't doubt he was amused that a wand from Dumbledore's pheonix worked against everything the headmaster worked for.

Mr. Ollivander

Mr. Ollivander weirded Harry out – so to speak – the very first time they met in SS/PS and when Harry encountered him again in GoF at the weighing of the wands
Now, Ollivander has abandoned his Diagon Alley shop. Mr.Weasley says “Shop’s empty. No sign of a struggle. No one knows whether he left voluntarily or was kidnapped.”

Remus immediately points out the problem with this – “They’ll make do with other makers…but Ollivander was the best, and if the other side have got him it’s not so good for us.”

The first question is, do you think Ollivander was coerced to join the Dark Side (put under the Imperious Curse or tortured), or do you think he joined up of his own accord? Is there any possibilty that he went into hiding to avoid the Death Eaters?

It follows that Voldemort will get another high-quality wand since he knows he can’t duel with Harry using his current wand. Will another wand work as well for Voldemort as his yew and phoenix feather one?

Harry was finding the Great Hall very hot all of a sudden, even though the ceiling still looked cold and rainy.

No... not as well. Ollivander was on the 'good' side. He immediately contacted Dumbledore when Harry got the same wand as Tom Riddle. He is one of those few people, therefore, that knows enough about Voldemort to know he was once Tom Riddle. Someone with that knowledge and on those terms with Dumbledore would not join the Death Eaters. Imperius or forced, take your pick.

Mr. Olivander is a strange man and I never liked him. However, I don't believe he went to their side on his own will--no, he seemed to regret selling Tom a wand. I believe he was forced to work with them under the Imperius Curse and something tells me that with Olivander in their aid, something very, very bad is going to happen.

Oh jeeze I had completely forgotten he was gone; thank you! Well my first idea was that Voldemort had gotten him to question him about wands and stuff, because i mean, he's the best about wands. But then he never turned up in the book...I have a sneaking suspicion he'll show up in the 7th book, because Jo wouldn't just leave him and then not explain where he went....or would she...

Well, Mr. Ollivander did say Voldemort did... 'great things! terrible, but great'. So, were those things more great or more terrible to Mr. Ollivander?

No. The wand chooses the wizard. Dumbledore was not with Harry either at Diagon Alley, and Harry got the same feather.

I think that unless Voldemort's wand was rendered useless, he would not be able to get a new one. Ron and Neville got new ones only when theirs were broken. And Ron was never very good at making spells work, partially because his wand was handed down to him.

Voldemort taking Ollivander hostage was strategy. Ollivander has a peculiarly good memory, which is very useful to interrogators. He could be seeking information on people, things, spells, or magic in general. It also disrupts the flow of fine wands to young wizards, as was stated in HBP. Which leaves them at a general disadvantage.

Okay, I guess this is as close a thread subject to my theory about Ollivander's as I can get without trying to start a new thread. =/

I don't think Mr. Ollivander was taken away/ran away because of a new wand for Voldemort, but I do think that his wands and Voldemort have a connection that's more than meets the eye.

Remember that Ollivander's (the business) has been making wands since... what was it 300 something BC? Well.. considering that Voldemort was looking for relics of the founders of Hogwarts (Hufflepuff cup and Slytherin necklace), and that Ollivander's was probably around during the time of the founders, I have a sneaking suspicion that Mr. Ollivander may have something that belonged to either Rowena Ravenclaw or Godric Gryffindor. (the first being the most likely, since he was after Gryffindor's sword)

Anyways... remember that in the front window of the shop, Mr. Ollivander always had that one wand on a cushion? Maybe it the wand that belonged to Ravenclaw that Voldemort used as a Horcrux. (or maybe it was just some totally fantastic piece of wand crafting... who knows! I'm just theorizing like mad ^_^ )

Mr. Ollivander is obviously pretty powerful, since he's considered the best wand maker in the world, so there may be a reason he has such a power object. I've never totally trusted him, to tell you the truth, but I'm definitely not going to jump to conclusions and say he's a Death Eater or in league with Voldemort, although anything seems to be a possiblity these days.

I do kinda wonder what happened to Mr. Ollivander? I mean he was mentioned once and we dont hear of him again. Would Voldemort know that he needed a new wand. But actually the wands can duel as long as not cast at the same time. Do we really have anything that might support this. Mabe Dumbldore helped him go into hiding and is his secret keeper?

I dont think the current Mr. Ollivander could be the same one from the beginning with out something like the SS Stone. How would he live so long?? I dont see it possible its prob been passed down generations.

I think Ollivander went into hiding. I don't think that Voldemort would want a new wand. Not only is it the wand he has had forever but it has a phoenix feather in it and phoenixes can't die. I would think that he would want to keep a wand with that immortality symbol to it.

I wouldn't think that Voldemort would want a new wand maybe he just wanted to keep Harry from learning something else useful about the fact that the wands share cores that only Ollivander could tell him.

i think that ollivander just got kidnapped and possibly killed... could have been for the wand... or it could have been to deprive England of the greatest wandmaker around.... more of a statement to the public possibly.
