Dumbledore's boggart
In Emerson's interview with JK he asks what Dumbledore's
bogart would be and she says she cant answer but says to go to HBP for theories. I think that Dumbledore's bogart would probably be something peculiar (when he looks in the mirror if Erised he sees himself with a new pair of socks ).So what do you think DD would see in the Mirror of Erised? What are your theories? This has probably already been talked about so im sorry but I couldnt find anything. Last edited by camel4792; July 23rd, 2005 at 12:32 am. |

i think it would have something to do with the student's at hogwarts being attacked as a result of a mistake he made or something. Something to do with the safety of the hogwarts students.

I think his boggart would involve some catastrophe resulting from some kind of failure on his part.
That doesn't mean I think his boggart would be a fear of failing but rather a fear of somehow causing harm to innocents. (maybe through failure or inaction etc) |

something awful happening to his beloved school and students would proll be his worst fear or maybe a 'world without love'
which would mean people become Voldemorts

I posted this in another thread. With all modesty lost, I'm fairly sure I'm on to something.
Look at the part where Dumbledore drinks the potion. He screams: "No, no, no ,no, no, I can't, I can't, don't make me, I don't want to...." (Possible imperious curse, but I don't think so) "Don't hurt them, don't hurt them, please, please, it's my fault, hurt me instead..." and later: "KILL ME!" [US Edition 572-3] I think he's remembering something. I can't tell what though. But, I think that this certainly answers the question about what Dumbledore thinks is worse than death. He was ready to die rather than remember whatever what happening here. |

It's got to be the same thing that distressed him while he was being force-fed the potion by Harry. It could be the obvious choice, something happening to Harry or another student, or it could be something else. Who knows? I really hope we figure out what he was recalling or thinking about while drinking the potion. It seems like it'll answer a few separate questions we have.

![]() Anyway, I think his boggart must have been something like a dead Harry, murdered by an all-powerful, invincible Voldemort. That'd make a lot of sense, as Harry was the person he loved the most in his life, and Voldemort was the one he hated with the most burning passion.

It was definitely the memory from the potion.

There's definate dark energy in Harry ... the sorting hat noticed it, he has "dark" abilities (parseltongue) ... and he doesn't seem at all hesitant to try dark magic.
With this in mind, I think Dumbledore's more afraid of Harry betraying the Order than Voldemort killing Harry. Imagine what Harry could be capable of if he embraced Voldemort's ideals ... I found it interesting too that JK refused to give those details ... what importance could they have in book 7? The only thing that comes to mind (since I'm pretty convinced Dumbledore is officially, irreversably dead) is that Harry asks his portrait ... but does that make for good storytelling? |

I have a feeling it would have something to do with Harry. In HBP its obvious that Harry means more to Dumbledore than he left off last book.

I think it would be Harry crying or sad. He said that he was blinded by Harry's Happiness and that if he sacrificed many lifes in the not so distant future. As long as Harry was happy. That isn't verbatim, but that is the basic thought behind it.

I absolutely agree that when he drank the potion, he was remembering something terrible from his past. don't think it was a "bogart" as much as i think it was a memory. I believe that this memory is also rather important and we will discover what it was. I also believe that Dumbledore is dead and not returning. But I also think that we will some haw hear from him again. Weather it be through a portrait or some other cool way, we will deffinately hear from him again.
