I don't think he will die because it would leave a lot of loose ends like who would kill Voldemort. JKR also said that the last word would be scar which could be something to do with his scar disappearing although I could be clinging to false hope!

I really hope he doesn't die, but he is going to go through a lot of very painful moments if he doesn't die. I think both Harry and Voldemort will kill each other in the end.

Not to sound defeatist but I have a feeling that Harry will die. I think that as he kills Voldemort, the magic needed to do really cuases him pain and dies just after Voldemort.

I wonder about the prophecy...If either Voldemort or Harry has to die at the hand of the other, would killing Harry make Voldemort immortal- something that he has wanted so much. Also, "at the hand of the other" could Wortail's new hand be considered Voldemort's hand?

Of couse I hope, that he don't die, but on the other hand I rather see he dead defeating Voldcemort, then have to read 10 books about him with his life after Hogwarts...

anyway if Harry does survive after killing Voldemort, a part of him will die anyway because V was his mortal ennemy i bet life would be a little to unevenful after That.

I think JKR would not want to risk dissollousioning (sp?) her fans, especially not the younger ones. For that simple reason i think Harry will probably survive.
However, i think she's desperate to finish off the possibility of having to write more, so i wouldnt rule it out. It would have to be a very noble death, a real sacrifice for the benefit of many, for it to be 'acceptable' to her. Killing off a character for anything less is a foolish way to try and put an end to a series you want to leave for good; end on a high! For example, Sherlock Holmes got killed off for the wrong reasons, and had to be brought back. |

I dont want Harry to die in the ending of the next book, but I think he may have to sacrifice himself. Dont ask why, I just have a funny feeling.

Half myself wants him to survive and Half myself wants him to die, because i love so much tragycal endings...
A really good one (for me, off course) would be him killing Voldemort but finnally he would be too injured (soully, heartedly...) to recover competely. Kind of what happens to Frodo in LOTR.

I go back and forth between the two.
Part of me thinks that he'll die, because otherwise, the book's ending isn't neat and tidy; it'll still have lots of things to tie up. However, my optimistic side thinks he'll live more often than not, because 1)He always has before and 2)If the books are from Harry's point of view, and he dies, who's going to be talking about the scar at the end..?

Personally, I hope that he doesn't die but I can't help thinking that he will, it just seems too much like he and Voldermort will have to kill each other.

Consider who is reading the book. Consider that Rowling is a mother with kids of her own. I can't see her writing Harry's death simply because:
1. It's not necessary. You don't have to kill Harry to have a 'clean ending'. Harry doen'st have to die to kill Voldemort. 2. It's overkill - no pun intended. Voldemort dies, Harry dies... not to mention all the other people in previous books who have died. You'd finish the series with barely anyone left. 3. She'd completely alienate her fans, and especially the younger ones, who would be absolutely TRAUMATIZED by the ending. I can see the lawsuits now... I see Harry living, possibly with a small handicap (whether magical or physical, who knows) and his scar disappearing.

it's funny. I'm usually okay with tragic endings and with the bittersweet (I usually like it when done well). But with Harry Potter, well... I don't want to see Harry die. I want the full happy ending. With Sirius Black somehow alive and everything if possible. However, if Harry's going to die... I kind of think it should be in the process of failing to defeat Voldemort. I'd rather, if Harry dies, Voldemort be able to take over and bring in the end of the world (as we know it anyway. Maybe because then it'd just be awful through and through and I'd not have to feel bad about hating the end because Harry died. I could hate it because nothing ended up remotely okay. Maybe that didn't make sense. I'm really plugging for the happy ending. Ooh, and on the topic of "removing the possibility of more books"- I don't think killing Harry off would achieve that end. There'll be demand still for books about other characters (the marauders, in particular, but also any surviving characters). Last edited by Eleanor12; August 9th, 2005 at 9:43 pm. |

I sincerly hope that Harry will not be killed. Harry dieing would be in awful way to end the books in my opinion.

I think that Harry will die. JKR said ' There are clues to what happens in book seven, in the third film (prisoner of askaban).
In the film Harry has the grim in his mug and he sees a dog in the sky. Both of these represent death. What do you think? |

From my point of view Harry Potter is not a book destined to have a fairytale ending (as shown by numerous death etc.) so it would be no surprise for Harry to die in book 7.

At first I believed that Harry would die while destroying He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, because of the prophecy. EDITED....*Not Spoilers in theis Forum* JofpGallagher
So.............maybe there is hope that Harry will survive!!

I really don't think Harry will die. I don't think it would make sense and also it isn't necessary.
