Re: Smallville
I personal think that they are goingto the end of the road with Smallville and think that Series 8 will be the last. I know they can change Superman's history to suit their purpose but trying to keep it close to the 'real' one would mean him leaving very soon to begin the journey inot becoming Superman.
I would love however in series 8 if they could have Clark meet the young Bruce Wayne, that would be great!

Re: Smallville
Season 8 will be the last and they have tried to have Bruce Wayne's character on the show, but it's never gone through.
I'm sure that next season, they'll tie everything up and Clark will finally be able to do his training to become Superman. I was just thinking thought that it would be fun at as the last episode to have Clark go into the fortress and then have the next scene years later to see him going to the Daily Planet wearing glasses to find a job and see Lois. And then have him see some catastrophe and run off opening his shirt and showing the Superman symbol as he goes. That would be a nice ending!

Re: Smallville
Ginny--I'm glad you approve of my restraint.
I appreciate that Jimmy knows a good thing when he has it and when he sees it--that he's trying to be mature, and that he really values all aspects of Chloe. However, even just a brief glimpse at Pete Ross becoming the old Pete Ross (that last scene) showed just how far short Jimmy falls as a significant other for Chloe. I really think they should pursue a relationship between him and Kara--she's more his speed, and he's hers.I guess I can see your Jimmy/Catherine Morland comparison, but I was left with the impression that Catherine, armed with her self-knowledge would mature into a young woman and wife who could, over time, close the mental gap between herself and Henry. Jimmy--this Jimmy, his heart's in the right place, but I feel we're seeing his absolute best, right at this moment. The match just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I see it as rather like Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger on Gilmore Girls; or, maybe, Jason Stiles and Lorelai Gilmore on the same show. ![]()

Re: Smallville
Back to Lionel we never got to see what happened to him when Brainiac led Clark to the Kryptonian geologist, so he is probably still pretending to be Lionel. I am confused about that though. Since they didnt show where Lionel was the only possible conclusion is that he is dead.

Re: Smallville
I don't think that's the ONLY possible conclusion--since I like to think that Lionel is the character with the most depth and complexity on this show--but that's the easiest and most logical explanation (which means it's about 50-50 whether the writers will use it). Frankly, I hope they don't, because if this show is going to survive with less Lex next season, they need Lionel there as a strong presence.

Re: Smallville
But John Glover is contracted through next season, which means that he will be there. I guess it's all going to depend on what happens tonight...if they allude to Braniac at all, that is. If they don't then maybe it really is Lionel.

Brainiac will come into play for the end of the season, but I don't think he will act as a replacement for Lionel.

Re: Smallville
Yeah, I know that Braniac is certainly not finished. It's just the missing pieces between him an Lionel that's confusing. They either left it out on purpose or not. And with this show, you just never know. Sometimes they're great about remembering things and other times not, which I'm sure we can all think of quite a few!!

Re: Smallville
Indeed--they made a conscious effort to remember old continuity for references to seasons when Pete was a major factor in the episode where Pete took on the Mr. Fantasitic role thanks to the gum.

Re: Smallville
So finally some good answers. I'm guessing that since Lex didn't know anything about Veritas that Oliver doesn't either. It's a good story. I want to believe that Lionel didn't kill the other members, but he is Lionel and this is Smallville,s o of course it's probable.
And now someone else knows Clark's secret. And now I'm thinking there's just too many people who know and people are going to get killed. I'm wondering what Kara's excuse is going to be with Lex. He's not going to let her off easy. Although, to me, the best part of the episode was the sound effect they put in right before Clark said no the Lionel at the end about Lionel being a changed man. ![]() Okay, so I wrote that forgetting that I didn't watch the last few minutes, which I now have and see that the lovely Miss Swann has had an early demise ordered by our nefarious Lex. All to get the locket that contains a key to...what? We'll have to tune in next time to find out. Now what would be cool is if there is something from all the members that needs to be collected.

My favorite part was actually the way Chloe and Lana worked together. Pooling their skills together to help save Clark.

Re: Smallville
Except--what that actually was was Lana providing information and Chloe providing the skill.
This was an excellent episode--their best, probably in two years. I think they thought of this plot as retcon--retroactive continuity adjustment--as an excuse for the Teagues and an explanation for Dr. Swann's knowledge and interest (other than it just being an excuse for an awesome guest star). My favorite part of the ep, and my favorite part of this season by far was Chloe pleading the case to Jor-El. I almost broke out in Hallelujahs when I heard her. ![]() The other part of this episode that makes it interesting is the reactions of the two Luthors. Lionel appears to have been given a Snape-like route, and I'm pleased because I know Glover is up to the challenge. Also, Lex has clearly taken that last step towards supervillainy--he was already investigating Veritas, and he had Patricia Swann executed to protect his own secrets and to obtain the key (whatever that key's for).

Re: Smallville
Be warned--If they do what I think they're going to do with this finale run--that is, kill off Chloe or Lionel or BOTH
![]() ![]() , then there won't be anything worth watching to save for season 8 which is already guaranteed.![]()

No chance--If Lana leaves (which is to say, if they can't get ink with Kreuk) it'll be a voluntary exit to Gotham City or Paris or some such nonsense.

Re: Smallville
I think that's wishful thinking on your part--If you'll look back at the threads you'll notice quite a lot of grumbling recently about the writers putting a flashing neon sign over Chloe's head reading "Will Sacrifice Self to Save Clark Kent."
Basically, like what she did at the end of last season for Lois, only with a permanent death as a result.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() As to Chloe's presence in the comics--she's basically an ultra-version of Lois Lana with blond hair. They can't have someone legit and idealistic elbowing into Lois' space, and she's not selfish or needy enough to be a take-off of Lana. So, basically, they tried to create a new niche for her--a young, blond spitfire from Smallville, smart and hungry for fame as a reporter who would try to carve out a ncihe for herself at the Daily Planet--except, if she's significantly younger than Clark, you basically have a blond with Chloe's name and nothing else that ties her to the popular show character that they wanted to import into the comics. Basically, the comic writers tripped over Chloe's existence as sort of a hybrid uber-Lois Lane and said so. Let's all laugh up our sleeve at Al & Miles while we grind our teeth.
