Hi everybody..... I hope that all of u like this fan-fic.. this is the first time that I am writing about lily and James.. but i thought that there are so many possibilities about how they got together.. so I just decided to explore it a little bit.. read n enjoy...

Lily Evans was happy... She was feeling on top of the world... It was her seventh year at hogwarts and she, Lily, was the head girl... She took this as an immense resposibility and was determined not to do anything wrong this year. The previous year had been the most amazing year for her.. She had found a devastating truth about her friend, Remus.. She discovered that he
was a werewolf... She always thought that there was something going on because of his odd behaviour during full moon.. She decided to explore what was going on and followed Remus, James, Sirius and Peter to the shreiking shack but she was spotted by them.. She saw Remus transform right before her eyes and Remus had attacked her before she could do anything.. It was
James that had saved Lily and took her to the hospital wing when she fell unconsious... Since then, Lily had developed a soft spot for James in her heart but she hated him all the same.

Lily was walking across the barrier to enter platform nine and three quarters.. After her came her mom, her eyes shut.. Lily smiled to herself.. her mother had never quite got used to walking through a wall...

"LILY!" came a voice interrupting lily's thoughts.

She looked around to find her friend, Alice, coming to talk to her. Alice and Lily had been friends for a year now(since the beginning of lily's sixth year).. Lily's best friend, Linda, had left school at the end of their fifth year because Linda's parents feared for their daughter's safety due to Voldemort's rising power. Lily thought that it was stupid considering that Hogwarts was the safest place ever to be in, even in the most difficult circumstances. Since then, Lily and Alice hanged out together more often..

Lily liked Alice a lot.. she thought that Alice was well-mannered, courteous and a very soft person... Alice was a very calm person and never got angry very fast. Lily on the other hand, was very short-tempered person. Lily always wondered how Alice and she got along so well...She tho..

"OY!" said Alice shaking Lily.. Lily immeadiately came out of her trance.

"Come on! We have to get going.. we have to find a compartment to ourselves." said Alice, pulling Lily away...

"Wait!" said Lily.. She turned around to look for her mother. Her mother was a few feet away from her, looking lost.. Lily quickly went to her mother.. and kissed her on the cheek..

"Take care, Darling." said her mother.

"I will mom. And you take care too.." said Lily

"I just wish that Petunia had not been rude to you.. I feel awful, Darling.. but you have to understand that sh..."

"It's ok mom." said lily interrupting her mother. "I have to go now."

"Bye! And keep writing often.. Don't forget." said her mother as Lily walked to the train.

"I will. Bye!" screamed Lily before entering the train..

"Honestly!" said Alice, pulling Lily onto the train "You act as though this is your first trip to hogwarts."

Lily smiled to herself.. Alice had never understood the bond that Lily and her mother shared...Her mother had been really supportive of Lily when she learned that Lily was a witch.

"Come on, Quick. Let's go find a compartment." said Alice dragging her trunk and walking from compartment to compartment, all of which were full..

They found a compartment at last.. Alice and Lily sat, facing each other..

"Sooooo... How was your summer." asked Alice as soon as they sat down.

"It was o.k. not that great though." said Lily, not wanting to repeat her experience at home with Petunia during the summer.

"How was yours?"asked Lily

"It was great.. Mom and I went to Paris.. it was so pretty and the city was sooo romantic.. I just can't wait to tell Frank as to what happened.."

Lily smiled.. Alice had a boyfriend name Frank.. Lily thought that they were perfect for each other.. Frank was not that different from Alice.. He was resposible Prefect.

"Hey! Do you have any idea who has been made the Head Girl?" asked Alice, not paying attention to the badge that was pinned to Lily's chest.

Lily laughed and pointed at the badge pinned to her chest.. Alice looked confused and then saw it...

"I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!! I KNEW THAT YOU WOULD BE MADE HEAD GIRL!!!" screamed Alice, hugging Lily.

"Yeah? But you sure do look surprised." said Lily." I wonder who has been made Head Boy, though"

At this comment, Alice froze. Lily noticed..

"What happened?" asked Lily

"Um.. Nothing." said Alice

Lily knew that Alice wouldn't crack.. so she just kept quiet.. but she couldn't help thinking that Alice's odd behaviour had something to do with the head boy.

Lily knew that Alice wouldn't crack.. so she just kept quiet.. but she couldn't
help thinking that Alice's odd behaviour had something to do with the head boy.

Lily pushed that thought of her mind.. She would think about it later. She knew that she would find out sooner or later as to who the Head Boy was. She was not worried about that now. She just wished that the Head Boy was someone that she knew, so that she could feel more comfortable during her partrols as the Head Girl.

Alice chatted animatedly with Lily for a long time. Alice was talking about her summer and her experiences in Paris. Lily was not paying much attention. Her mind kept drifting away. She was thinking about her own Summer, which was a complete disaster.. She was recalling the events with her sister, Petunia. Lily and Petunia were fighting from the moment that Lily stepped foot in the house at the beginning of the holdiays. Sometimes, Lily got so sick of fighting that she used to lock herself up in her room for hours at a time, until her mother used to call her and convince her to go downstairs. After a while, Lily and Petunia reached a silent agreement on not to talk to each other at all and act as though the they were invisible to each other.. Lily thought that this regime suited both of them.

And then, on the last day of their holidays, Lily went to Petunia's room to bid her a final goodbye, not because she wanted to, but because her mother had forced her to.. Petunia seemed to be talking on the phone when Lily entered her room. When Petunia saw that it was Lily who had entered the room, she quickly hanged up the phone.

"What?" Petunia asked stiffly

"I just came to say goodbye. I am going back to the school." said Lily

"Oh! That freak school is it?" screamed Petunia

Lily stared.. Petunia always hated the mentioning of Lily's school.. Well, Lily thought, she is just being a sore loser. Just because she was not made a witch. However, Lily knew better than to voice her opinion out loud.. So, not wanting to start a fight again, Lily had walked out of the room.

"LILY!!" screamed Alice.

"Uh?" said Lily. Lily seemed to have gone into one of her usual trances.

"Are you listening to me or am I talking to myself?" asked Alice

"No, I was listening." lied Lily

"Oh yeah? Then what did I just say?" asked Alice, with a glint of mischief in her eyes

"You just asked me if I was listening to you or you were talking to yourself." said Lily, playing along.

"Fine! I lost." declared Alice, realizing that there was no point to try and trap Lily.

Lily smiled. Alice was so sweet sometimes.. She was the only one who knew what was happening at Lily's house. Lily knew that there was no other thought that was worse than the thought of her sister.

At the precise moment, the compartment door slid open. A head popped into the compartment. It was a boy who wore glasses and had amazing hazel eyes. His hair was unusually untidy, but he seemed to be making no efforts to keep it neat.

"Hi" grinned James Potter.

Lily was irritated instantly. Well, she thought to herself, I was wrong. Only James Potter's memory could beat the unpleasantness that was caused by Petunia's memory..

"Hello Evans." said another voice

It was Sirius. Behind Sirius was Remus and Peter.

"Hi Remus. Hi Sirius. Hi Peter." said Lily ignoring James completely. Lily's relationship with Sirius, Remus and Peter had improved considerably but her relationship with James never changed.

"Ah Evans. I see that you still playing hard to get." teased James, sitting beside Alice. Sirius sat next to James. Peter and Remus sat next to Lily.

Lily ignored the comment completely as though he had never said it.

"How was your summer, guys?" asked Alice

"Awesome." said Sirius instantly "Prongs, Moony and myself spent the summer together.

"What about Peter?" asked Lily

"Wormtail? Well, Wormtail couldn't make it." said Sirius

Lily had always wondered as to why all of them called Peter as Wormtail. Lily knew that all of them were an animagus and that Peter was a rat but Lily always thought that Wormtail sounded a bit ridiculous compared to Moony, Prongs and Padfoot. But, then again, she thought, Peter always seemed to be like a tail around Sirius and James.. Accoring to Lily, Remus was the only sensible person among them four.

"Lily's been made the Head Girl." said Alice suddenly.

"What?" said James. He had a glint in his eyes that looked suspicious to Lily

"Well, Prongs. It looks like it is gonna be a real treat this year for you." said Sirius

James smiled. He whispered something to Sirius, Remus and Peter. All of them laughed.

"Why?" asked Lily suspiciously

"Because.." Alice started but she caught the look on James face that clearly meant shut up.

"I wonder who has been made the head boy." said Lily, not paying attention to their reactions

"Wait till you see Evans." said Sirius. "Wait till you see."

"Wait till you see, Evans" said Sirius "Wait till you see"

Lily was really confused now.. But at that moment, Remus said:

"Come on, We have to go and change into our robes. I think we are almost there."

"Yeah I guess your right Moony. Only if we could welcome everybody at Hogwarts." said Sirius looking at James

James gave Sirius a glare. Remus pulled James and Sirius out of the compartment. Peter followed along. As they were going, Lily heard James whisper to Sirius:

"I have told you Padfoot, not today. You know that I have to....."

"Yeah, Yeah! Whatever." said Sirius unenthusiastically

Lily looked around at Alice to see if she had noticed it, but Alice didn't look as though she had heard anything because she was busy taking her robes from her trunk. She looked around at Lily, and saw that Lily was looking at her.

"What? Do I have something on my face?" Alice asked, rubbing her cheeks

"No." smiled Lily. Alice looked suspiciously at Lily.

Lily and Alice changed into their robes .. As soon as they were done, the train stopped to a halt. They were already there.

"Home Sweet Home." said Lily. She was feeling so happy.

Lily and Alice, accompanied by Remus, James, Peter and a disgruntled looking Sirius, walked towards the carriages. Lily and Alice got into one carriage and the marauders got into another carriage. Lily and Alice were shortly joined by Emily and Susan, two hufflepuff girls in their year.

"Hi" said Lily and Alice together

"Hello" said Emily and Susan

They did not talk much during the rest of their short journey. As soon as they reached, Lily and Alice got down from their carriage. Lily looked at Hogwarts and she knew that this year at Hogwarts was going to be special. Not only because she was the Head Girl, but also because this was her last year at Hogwarts. She had not given much thought of what she was going to do after Hogwarts.. She didn't want to think about it.

"Come on" said Alice, pulling Lily towards the steps that led into the castle

Lily and Alice walked up and entered the Great Hall. They took their place in the Gryffindor table. The sorting hat was placed in the middle of the hall and all the first years had entered the great hall too. They looked fearfully at the hat as though it was the Giant Squid. The sorting hat burst into its song:

Though I am old, I still remember
what happened years ago,
The four great founders of our school
Had built something to show.
For Hogwarts school they started then
with the same ambition,
to make it the best magic school
so they started with their admission.
The each of our four founders
had houses of their own,
Bold Gryffindor took the bravest ones
whose daring nerves were shown
While Ravenclaw, she took the ones
whose Intelligence was surest
But Slytherin took the ones
whose blood was the purest.
And Hufflepuff took the ones
who had humble minds,
so Hogwarts school they started
with people of different kinds.
So be ready because I am here
to sort you into your houses,
so put me on and let me
have a look inside your minds.

The whole school broke into an applause. And then the sorting ceremony started.

"Argon, Jacob" Professor McGonagal read

A small boy placed the hat on top of his head.

"RAVENCLAW" shouted the sorting hat

The boy looked relieved and placed it back on the stool and went to join the ravenclaw table.

After the sorting, Dumbledore got up and said:

"I shall not deprive all those hungry faces. So I shall save my speech for the end of the feast. Fill up."

As he said that, the hogwarts tables magically filled with food. Lily helped herself to some pie. After the feast, Dumbledore stood up again and the hall fell silent at once.

"Mr.Filch has told me to tell you that no Zonko products are allowed inside the school along with the list of two hundred more that can be found pinned in front of his office.(Sirius and James smiled). Just for the knowledge of first years, Forbidden Forest is out of bounds to everybody. I shall take the priviledge to remind some of our old students too. (Dumbledore looked at Sirius and James, who smirked). This year a new staff member has joined us, Professor James Boatwright, who will be taking the post of defence against the darks arts teacher."

Everybody clapped.

"Now, all of you can go upto your dormitories. Prefects, may I please ask you to guide our first years.?" said Dumbledore

Lily was about to go when Dumbledore said:

"May I please ask the Head Boy and Head Girl to come and meet me in my office."

Lily looked around expecting to find the Head Boy. But as she couldn't see anybody excpet James, she assumed that the Head Boy had already left to Dumbledore's office. She walked towards his office, when she noticed that somebody was following her. She looked around to find James.

"What are you doing here, Potter?" asked Lily, looking suspiciously at James

"I am going to meet Dumbledore." said James promptly

"Why?" pressed Lily

"You'll know, soon." said James

James and Lily walked to Dumbledore's office together, though Lily was careful to maintain her distance with James. When they came infront of the stone gargoyle, Lily looked at James. She had suddenly realized that she did not know the password to Dumbledore's office. James seemed to have realized the same thing.

"Er.. Chocolate Cauldrons." said James, uncertainly

The stone gargoyle immeadiately sprang to life. Lily was surprised but she climbed the stairs, all the same. They knocked on the door:

"Come in" came Dumbledore's voice

"Ah Mr. Potter. I knew that you would remember the password from last year." said Dumbledore. James smiled. Dumbledore continued:

"It is my duty to explain the duties to the Head Boy and Head Girl. Now that both of them are here..." Lily looked around expecting to see the Head Boy

"Er Professor?" said Lily interrupting Dumbledore

"Yes, Ms.Evans."

"Where is the Head Boy?" asked Lily amused

Dumbledore looked at Lily for a moment and then looked at James, who grinned. Dumbledore smiled and said:

"Mr Potter is the Head Boy."

“Mr. Potter here is the Head Boy” said Dumbledore

Lily was startled for a moment. He’s just joking, she thought. Just to see how I will react to it. No one in their right mind would make James the Head Boy.

“Very funny, Professor” said Lily. She knew Professor Dumbledore long enough to be comfortable enough around him

“I am amused that you think what I said was funny.” Said Dumbledore with a twinkle in his eye “But I am serious. Mr. Potter is the Head Boy.”

“WHAT?” she said looking around frantically

James looked as though Christmas had come early for him. Dumbledore merely looked amused.

“Professor, You must be KIDDING.” Said Lily

“I assure you Ms. Evans that I am not.” Said Dumbledore

Lily looked at Dumbledore as though expecting him to shout APRIL FOOLS. But since nobody said anything, Lily just continued to stare at Dumbledore, as though looking at him in a whole new light.

He is mental, she thought. Making Potter as the Head Boy? What the hell was he thinking.

“Well, Ms. Evans. I assuming that you are ok, Let me continue for what I called both of you.” Said Dumbledore “Being a Head Boy or Girl is a very serious responsibility(as he said this, he looked at James). This position requires both of you, to patrol down the corridors every night and make…..”

Lily didn’t hear the rest of the words. She was busy pondering over what Dumbledore has just said. This position requires both of you to patrol down the corridors every night. That will make my day alright! She thought. Great! It is not enough of what I get of him everyday but now I have to spend extra hours with him. Maybe this year isn’t going to be that great after all.

“Lily!” came James’ voice

“Uh!”

“Come on! He said that we can go.” Whispered James

“Uh!” said Lily again

James did not bother try to bring her back to her senses. He just caught her by the arm and pulled her out of Dumbledore’s office.

“What the hell was that about?” asked James

Lily finally seemed to come back to her senses. She looked around to see that she was standing outside the stone gargoyle.

How the hell did I get here? She thought

“LILY!” screamed James

“WHAT!” said Lily equally screaming

“Can we go back?” said James, looking tired

“No Potter. It is bad enough that I have to spend every single day with you from now. Please let me have a potter free night tonight.” Said Lily irritated

Whatever James was feeling now, he was very good at hiding it. He had no expression on his face. If it were someone else, Lily would have thought that they were going to explode. But she knew James better. More than she thought she knew about him herself.
As expected, James just walked away.

Lily looked around. She was feeling completely out of place now. She started walking to back to the common room.

Maybe I was a bit too rude, Lily thought. No, she said firmly to herself, he deserved it. It was clear that he was waiting for this all along. Why couldn’t he just tell me that he was the Head Boy. He is such an arrogant person. So irritating, so self-centered, so proud….

“Excuse me!.” Came the Fat Lady’s voice

“What?” asked Lily

“I thought I just heard you say ‘proud’.” Said Fat Lady looking offended

“Oh I am sorry.” Said Lily quickly “I was not talking about you.”

“Can I have the password” said the Fat Lady stiffly

“Bougleduss” said Lily unenthusiastically, heading towards the portrait hole. She entered the portrait hole to find Alice in the common room. Apparently, Alice was waiting for her because when she saw Lily, she sprang up from where she was sitting and came over to Lily

“Lily!” said Alice. “Thank god! I thought that you’ll never come.”

“Sorry!” said Lily

Both of them headed to the dormitory. Alice and Lily sat on Alice’s bed. Lily knew that Alice would want to her questions.

“What happened? You look a bit peaky.” Said Alice looking at Lily suspiciously

“Nothing.” Said Lily looking away . “ Did you know that Potter was the Head Boy?” burst out Lily suddenly

Alice looked at Lily for a moment and then sighed.

“Yes Lily. I knew that he was the Head Boy.”

“Why the hell didn’t you tell me?” asked Lily looking angry

“Because I did not want you to act as you are acting now. At least I would have a peaceful journey to Hogwarts.” Said Alice

She looked at Alice for a moment and then realized what Alice was talking about

“Sorry!” she muttered. Then she looked up and said firmly “I know what I am going to do.”

“What?” asked Alice, confused.

“I am going to asked Dumbledore to make somebody else as the Head Girl. I am going to resign.”

I am so sorry guys... I am posting soo late... but my parents got me a playstation and I was soooo immersed in that, that I forgot all about writing and doing anything else.. k read 'n' enjoy

"WHAT!" screamed Alice

"Yes. I don't want to be the Head Girl anymore. Not with that James around me all the time." confirmed Lily

"I never knew that you hated him so much. I just thought that you were...." said Alice searching for words

Lily looked at Alice and when Lily's eyes met with Alice's eyes, Lily felt something in her stomach.. it was an odd feeling.. she just couldn't say what it was. As though, it was guilt. That she had done something wrong.

"Lily.. I want you to think about it. Are you seriously going to give up something you really wanted all along just because of somebody else?" asked Alice

Lily was confused.. she felt dazed.

"I have to go to sleep Alice."mumured Lily and went to her bed

"Good night!" called Alice

"Good night" Lily replied

Lily set her head on her pillow knowing that she wouldn't sleep. She couldn't. What was that feeling that she had? Had she become so opaque that she couldn't see through herself? No, thought Lily, I cannot be secretive to myself. I have to discover the depths of my heart. What actually lies in there.

Then Lily thought about her being the Head Girl. Was she entitled to give up her position? Even if she was, did she really want to? Just because of James? Lily turned around uncomfortably. I shouldn't let James divert me from my goals and responsibilities, thought Lily.

"ARGH!" thought Lily in her mind. I just don't know what to do. I have to untangle all my feelings and make sure that I set everything right. I have to be honest to myself. But what is the truth? she thought. What was the matter with her? Why did James bother her so much? asked Lily to herself

Lily assumed that she hated him because of his arrogance and the way he behaved to others. But I have never gotten to know him? How can I judge him? There are so many things that need to be sorted out and I will do it. she said to herself firmly. I will take my responsibilities and I will not let anybody direct me.

Feeling that her mind was much clear now, Lily turned around and fell asleep instantly. She woke up in the morning and found that everyone else was asleep. She didn't know what woke her up. It was early in the morning. Lily could tell by looking out of her window. The sun had just risen. Lily looked around and saw that Alice was sleeping.

Deciding not to wake Alice, Lily got out of bed and went downstairs. She walked out of the potrait hole. She wanted to take a nice long walk and just enjoy the beautiful things around her.

As she walked past the tree next to the lake, she just thought back to her life, seven years ago. It had been so different. Lily realized how much her life had changed. I would still have my sister for one thing, she thought. But did Lily really care about Petunia anymore? Yes, she thought to herself, yes. I do. Just because she doesn't like does not mean that I hate her. She is my sister and will always be and nothing in the world can change that.

Lily drifted off to her thoughts. She did not realize that she was there for an hour and when she realized it, she went hurriedly to the Great Hall. She saw that Alice was sitting in the Gryffindor table, eating.

"Hi" said Lily, sitting down

"Ms. Evans. where have you been?" asked Alice

"I just didn;t want to disturb you. I went for a walk." said Lily

"So?" asked Alice

"So what?" asked Lily

"What did you decide?" asked Alice

"I won't quit just because of somebody else." said Lily firmly

"Good." said Alice happily " I don't even want to think as to who would be the Head Girl if it weren;t you. Probably Martha." she shuddered

Martha was a girl in Gryffindor(muggle-born) who annoyed Alice the most. But Alice had always wondered how Martha was so good at studies. Martha used to boast about the cups that she got when she was in school in the muggle world. On the other hand, Alice always thought that the only cup that Martha ever deserved was the cup for the most annoying person.

"Hello Girls!" came a voice. It was Sirius accompanied by Peter, James and Remus.

"Hi" chorused Lily and Alice

They took the seat oppossite Lily and Alice. They helped themselves to some food. Peter and Remus seemed to be talking about something while James and Sirius were just playing around and making fun of other people in the Great Hall.

"Look at that guys nose. I wonder how it will be to change it to green and then enlargen it." said Sirius

James laughed as though picturing it in his mind.

"Hey James." said Sirius suddenly

"What?" asked James

"She seems to be trying to catch your eye." said Sirius grinning

Lily, Alice and James looked as to who Sirius was talking about. It was Martha. She was sitting with her friends, but she kept turning her face towards James and was talking to her friends a little too loud.

When she saw that James noticed, she blushed and looked the other way.

"Whatever." said James, playing with his fork and looking at Lily

Lily looked away. She didn't know what to do. She was feeling nervous all of a sudden.

"Come on Alice" said Lily"Let's go."

"Ok." said Alice, abandoning her half-eaten food

Lily and Alice walked out of the Great Hall. Lily knew that they were early for class, so she pulled Alice out for a walk.

Lily and Alice walked out of the Great Hall. Lily knew that they were early for class, so she pulled Alice out for a walk.

Both of them walked in silence, apparently lost in thought. After a long time, the silence was broken.

"Lily?" asked Alice

"Hmm?" said Lily

"Is there something that you want to tell me?" asked Alice looking at Lily

Lily was startled.. Why on earth would Alice ask that?.. She looked at Alice.. Alice and Lily had become so close during the past one year that it was difficult to keep anything from her... It was as if Alice knew Lily better than she did herself.. But did she have anything to tell Alice?

"No" said Lily

"Lily, all I want you to know is that, you can tell me anything. Ok?" said Alice

"yeah." said Lily

"Come on. We'll go to class. I know that we'll be early but Frank said that he'll be there." said Alice, smiling

"Ok." said Lily

Both of them walked back to the Great Hall. They had transfiguration first.
There were only a few students.. Many had not made it to the N.E.W.T level because they found it really hard. There were two Ravenclaws, one Hufflepuff, seven gryffindors (James, Alice, Lily, Frank, Sirius, Peter and Remus) and two Slytherins.

Lily had always wondered how Peter got in to N.E.W.T. He acted so stupid sometimes. But the marauders had never underestimated him. Lily had always wondered as to why people like James(popular but arrogant) wanted to be friends with Peter. But James always said that Peter knew more that what he thought that he knew himself.

Alice and Lily entered the Transfiguration classroom to find that Frank was sitting with the Hufflepuff boy in one table.. Lily and Alice sat beside him.

"Hi" said Lily and Alice to both of them

"Hi' they replied.

Lily looked around. The marauders, as usual, were not there yet.(They usually apperaed as soon as the bell rang. The Ravenclaws were sitting in another table. The Slytherins were not there too. Suddenly, something clicked in Lily's head. The marauders were not there and nor were the Slytherins. This meant trouble, she thought. And James was the Head Boy too, he shouldn't get into trouble. So, making up her mind, she got up.

"Lily, where are you going?" asked Alice, between her conversation with Frank

"I'll be back."said Lily

"Should I come with you?" asked Alice

"No." said Lily firmly

She went out of the class to find them. She knew exactly were they would be. The seventh floor corridor seemed to be the Gryffindor-Slytherin dueling spot. As expected, she saw Sirius and James with their wands raised towards Snape and Malfoy who had their wands out too. Remus seemed to be trying to stop them and Peter just seemed to be watching in awe.

Lily saw that James was about to fire a spell. She quickly took out her wand.

"Expelliarmus." she shouted pointing her wand at James

James looked surprised as his wand flew out of his hand and into Lily's. All of them looked startled. They looked around to find Lily. Remus looked relieved. The Slytherins took this moment's advantage and were about to fire spell at James and Sirius but Lily was too quick for them.

"Expelliarmus." shouted Lily. Snape and Malfoy's wand flew into her hand.

"Don't you dare." said Lily to a furious looking Snape and Malfoy

"Ah. We see that the mudblood has come to the rescue again." sneered Snape

Before anybody could say anything or see what happened, James snatched the wand from Sirius.

"Petrificus Totalus." he shouted pointing the wand at Snape and Malfoy. Both of them fell, unable to move

"Don't you dare call her that again." said James kicking Snape and Malfoy

"Potter." shouted Lily "I will not tolerate this. You have no right to jinx them."

"But he called you a.." said James, but Lily interrupted him

"I am perfectly clear as to what they called me but it still doesn't give you the right." said Lily smoothly

"How thick can you get Lily? He called you a mudblood and James just doesn't like it." shouted Sirius

"Don't test me Sirius." said Lily angrily " And I don't care what they call me."

"But I do." said James and he walked away. Sirius gave Lily a nasty glare and walked away. Peter followed them. Remus was the only one who stayed back.

"Lily.. " said Remus

"Forget it Remus." said Lily

Lily walked to Malfoy and Snape and muttered the counter-curse. Both of them got up. They sneered at her.

"I want both of you to go to your classes right now." said Lily in an intimidating voice

"Oh Yeah? You can't make us to." said Malfoy

"Well. Think again. I am the Head Girl and I can." said Lily pointing to the badge.

Malfoy and Snape looked furious but walked away all the same. That left Remus and Lily.

"We better go. The bell will ring in another minute." said Lily

"Ok" said Remus

Both of them walked to the Transfiguration classroom.

"Lily, you know perfectly well how sensitive James is when it comes to........ you." said Remus looking at her

Lily just didn't say anything. Yes, she thought. She knew that James liked her. But she never felt anything towards him. For her, he was just another person in Hogwarts.

They entered the classroom just as the bell rang. Lily sat down next to Alice. She saw the marauders were seated in another table. James looked at Lily. Lily turned away.

"What took you so long?" asked Alice

"I'll tell you later." said Lily, as Professor McGonagall was about to start her speech.

"I'll tell you later." said Lily, as Professor McGonagall was about to start her speech.

After what seemed to be a very tough class of Transfiguration, all of them proceeded to their next class, Herbology. Lily and Alice made their way to the greenhouses.

"So, what happened?" asked Alice

Lily told Alice all that happened between her and the marauders(and the slytherins). Alice listened patiently. However, when Lily finished, Alice sighed.

"What?" asked Lily

"Lily, I think that you were too hard on James." said Alice

"What has gotten into other people?" said Lily impatiently "Everybody is trying to patch me up with Potter. What? Are you guys having a bet or something."

"No, Lily. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. Just go easy on him. What has he done to you?" asked Alice

"Let's see." said Lily in mock concentration "Besides spoling every moment in Hogwarts for me, and always asking me out, and irritating me," Lily looked up acting as though she realized something "I think your right Alice. He has done nothing to me."

Alice laughed. Back to normal again, both of them entered the greenhouses where Professor sprout was waiting for them,.

Lily could say that she had had the busiest first day in Hogwarts. Besides having unusually difficult classes, she had to fulfill her Head Girl duties too. Lily sat in a chair in the common room. She was feeling really tired. It was pretty quiet in the common room. Everybody had gone for dinner. Lily stayed back as she did not feel hungry.

Suddenly, the potrait hole opened. Lily looked up. It was James. He took a seat in another chair facing Lily.

"Hi." said James

"Hi" said Lily

There was silence between them for a long moment. Then, atlast, the silence was broken by Lily.

"I'm sorry that I was hard on you. I mean, I didn't mean to." said Lily awkardly(she was apologising to James, which was the last thing that she thought that she'll do in her life.)

James looked at Lily. Lily had the feeling that he was trying to read her. Lily thought that he was likely to succeed. Lately, everybody could read her.

"It's ok." said James, finally.

Then after a while, James asked:

"Lily?"

"Hmm?" said Lily

"Will you go out with me?" asked James

Lily was surprised. Will he ever stop trying? she thought. Lily looked at James. When their eyes met, Lily saw something in James eyes. She couldn't describe what it was. But she felt as though it was desperation. Or was it sadness.

"You never give up do you?" asked Lily

"Nope." said James grinning

Lily thought of what to say. She didn't want to hurt James. (Funny, she had never cared of that before.) But, she didn't want to go out with him either.

"James..... We hardly know each other." said Lily

Lily waited for James to say something. But he just kept quiet. So she continued

"You don't know anything about me. And I don't know anything about you. How can I just go out with you?"

"I do know something about you." said James

"What?"asked Lily

"You are the most beautiful girl that I have ever met in my entire life. And you are the most smartest too." said James

Lily blushed.

"That's not the point. You know what I mean." said Lily

"Lily. How can you say that you don't know me when we never tried to get to know eachother. You just kept ignoring me." said James

Lily just kept quiet. James held her hand and said

"Give it a chance, Lily. Give us a chance."

"No. James. It just won't work. But we can be friends." said Lily and she extended her hand

James looked at Lily. She thought that he was going to refuse but he shook her hand. And that was their first step to their future. To their friendship. To.... them.

"Oh. I almost forgot. We have to patrol the corridor." said Lily

"Ok." said James

Just then, the potrait hole opened again and the rest of the marauders accompanied by Alice entered.

"You two ok?" asked Alice in mock concern

"Whatever." said Lily

And they started with the game of Exploding Snap.

Lily and James were walking down the corridors, alone, to make sure that all of them had gone to sleep and that none of the students were wandering around after hours.

Lily was surprised at the events of the day. It had happened so fast and she had never expected it. She smiled to herself. It was an amazing day.

Lily opened one unlocked classroom and entered. James followed.

"What did you come here for?" asked James

"I thought I heard something from inside." said Lily suspiciously

James looked around too.

"I guess it was nothing." said Lily and she walked out of the classroom

James, however, thought that he knew exactly what the noise was. Sirius was there in James's invisibility cloak. James stretched out his hand as if to catch him.

"Sirius." hissed James "I know that you are there."

Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him. Before he could draw his wand out, he heard a voice:

"Sectumsempra."

A flash of light, and James was lying on the floor covered in blood. Meanwhile, outside, Lily heard the noise and she entered the classroom. She looked around and them her eyes fell on the floor.

The silence of the peaceful night was broken with a ear-splitting scream.

The silence of the peaceful night was broken with a ear-splitting scream.

Lily screamed. She spotted James lying on the floor covered in his own blood. Lily was scared. She was horrified. Immeadiatley, she did the first thing that six years of magical education had thought her: she pulled out her wand.

"Lumous" she whispered.

Her wand lit up. She held her wand high to see who the intruder was. She couldn't see anybody, so she instantly turned her attention towards James, who seemed to be unconcious. Lily tried to lift his head up and her hands were instantly covered in blood. Her hands were trembling.

I need help, she thought. She couldn't do this by herself. And yet, if she left him there to fetch somebody, there was no telling as to what will happen to James. She had to do something, now. She dragged James out of the classroom.

She heard footsteps approaching. She turned to find Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore walking fast towards Lily. Lily was relieved.

"Miss. Evans, What happened?" asked McGonagall. She looked at James and was horrified. Dumbledore, however, acted quickly.

"Minerva, he has to get to the hospital wing right now." said Dumbledore in a firm voice "Poppy should be able to figure out something."

McGonagall nodded her head. She lifted James in the air and hurried towards the Hospital wing. Dumbledore turned to Lily. She was trembling from head to toe. She didn't know what to say.

"Miss Evans, come with me." said Dumbledore

Lily didn't know where they were going but she followed him. She was scared. She didn't know what to say. Before she knew, she was in Dumbledore's office, excepting a piece of chocolate and a cup of hot coffee.

Dumbledore leaned over Lily. He looked at Lily for a second and then said:

"Miss Evans. I know that it has been horrible for you but I need you to tell me as to what happened."

Lily recounted her events. She spoke slowly but clearly. She told him all that she could remember. After she finished speaking, she looked at Dumbledore. He had not interrupted her while she was speaking.

"Ms. Evans, did you, by any chance, hear what spell was cast. It could prove helpful to know what we are facing against." said Dumbledore

Lily tried to remember. She had heard a deep voice. It was a spell that she had never heard of before. It was something like Sectumpra or something like that.

"Professor, I cannot remember what it was exactly but it was something like Sectumpra." said Lily

Dumbledore looked at Lily. He then looked around and walked up and down his office. He then opened his cupboard and took out a stone basin. There was silvery substance in it. He then drew something from his head. A fluid,like the one in the basin and then connected it to the basin.(Atleast that is how Lily thought it looked) He then withdrew his head,looking wary.

"Very well, Ms. Evans. You have suffered a great deal tonight. I advise you go get some sleep or better, go to Poppy and spend the night in the hospital wing. I advise that you skip classes tomorrow." he paused and then continued

"Poppy will give you something for shock." he finished

"Yes Professor." said Lily looking tired but alert all the same

She left Dumbledore's office and walked towards the hospital wing. Then she stopped, she thought for a moment and then turned around and walked towards the classroom were James was attacked.

She entered the classroom. There were blood stains on the floor still.

"Scourgify." she murmured

She then looked around. James's attacker had to be standing inside the classroom to attack him. She knew that he or she must have fled by now, so she wasn't scared.

She was curious and wanted to know as to how she couldn't see him when she had been in the class a few minutes before the attack.

"The attacker had to be hiding." she said to herself

The problem was, there was no place in the classroom to hide. There was only a small cupboard where the potion ingredients were kept(extra, incase the professors ran out of them) and she suspected that only a baby could have fit inside that.

She couldn't think of anyway that the attacker could have hid himself. Tired and confused, Lily walked back to the hospital wing. She really needed some sleep. She entered the hospital wing, where Madam Promfrey was standing over James's bed. She saw Lily coming.

"Miss Evans. Professor McGonagall told me what happened. You need some sleep and something for shock. I'll give you a potion for dreamless sleep as well." she said in a motherly voice.

Lily was not listening. She was looking at James. He still looked pretty bad with bad cuts on his face.

"How is he?" she asked anxious

Madam Promfrey looked gravely at Lily and then said

"Not too good, I am afraid. I have done everything that I could. Now all we can do is wait and watch. If he doesn't open his eyes by the end of the week, I am afraid that we have to send him to St. Mungo's."

Lily's eyes instantly filled with tears.

"Now. Don't you get upset. Here drink this," she said giving Lily a potion

Lily drank it and she felt herself feeling calm. Her mind seemed a little more clear now.

"Take this too. To sleep." said Madam Promfrey

Lily drank it without hesitation. She drank half of the potion and kept the goblet aside. She instantly felt sleepy and she rolled over on her bed and fell asleep. The last thing she saw before she went to sleep was James's face.

Lily woke up early next morning. She got out of bed and went to James's bed. He was still unconcious. She knew that nobody would have known about james yet. But news spread fast in Hogwarts and she was sure that the Marauders will be informed fast enough.

She took James's hand in hers. She started crying. She didn't know why she was crying. She felt as thought that it was her fault that James was lying in the bed. She felt helpless. She cried herself to sleep, still holding his hand.

"Wake up" came a voice

Lily opened her eyes groggily. It was Alice with the rest of the Marauders.

"How are you feeling?" Alice asked looking concerned

Lily didn't answer. She got up from where she was sitting and then looked at Sirius, remus and Peter. They looked gravely at Lily.

"Are you ok, Lily?" asked Sirius with concern

Lily nodded her head. And then she started crying.

"Shhhh. Lily. It's ok." said Alice, hugging her.

She tried not to cry and manage herself. Alice took Lily to her bed. Lily lay down on the bed.

"Lily, I think that you should take the rest of the potion." said Alice

Lily nodded her head. Alice looked at Lily and squeezed her hand and then she went to James and the rest of the marauders.

Sirius was sitting next to James, while Remus and Peter stood beside him.

"I think we should leave both of them alone. Lily is tired and James cannot respond." said Alice knowingly

"But what happened?" asked Sirius still looking at James

"We can ask her later. Let Lily get some sleep. Poor thing." said Alice

Lily didn't want to hear anything else. She took the rest of the potion and slept again.

Three days had passes since the incident. James was still in the hospital wing and was unconsious. Ocassionaly, he would stir but that was the only sign of life that he showed besides breathing. Madam Promfrey was getting worried now. Lily overheard Madam Promfrey talking to Dumbledore, that afternoon:

"He should have woken up by now. His wounds are healing but he is not re-covering internally. I'm afraid that we have to send him to St. Mungo's." Lily heard her say in a worried voice

"Very well, we will transfer him to St. Mungo's but let's wait another two days." Dumbledore said

The Marauders with Lily and Alice, went to visit James everyday. These were the times when James would stir. They would sit for hours there in the Hospital wing until Madam Promfrey sent them out.

Lily was going through a difficult time too. She could not get over what happened. She had horrible dreams about the incident. She would wake up every night from one of her horrible nightmares. It took Alice a great deal of 'shhh' ing to calm her down.

The day Lily came out of the Hospital wing, Lily told Sirius and the rest of the Marauders as to what had happened. They were shocked but they remained silent as Lily recounted the visions of that night. Sirius was not himself anymore. James and Sirius were like brothers and it seemed that one was incomplete without another.

Sirius lost all his happy playful spirit and remained moody and silent most of the time. Remus and Peter tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen. He just kept insisting that he go and visit James even though he had already done that twice that day.

Everyone was sad.

Lily was sitting in the common room. She didn't want to go to dinner. She was not in the mood nor was she hungry. She sat in the chair, the same chair that she sat on three days ago when she apologised to James. Just three days ago, James was there, happy and playful but today he was in the hospital wing, where he could be sent to St' Mungo's anytime.

Lily visited James everyday along with the Marauders but she couldn't do anything except watch Sirius sitting beside James, his face grim. She sometimes thought of visiting James alone but what was the point? He couldn't hear her anyway. But today she was thinking of going alone to the hospital wing while the rest were at dinner. She didn't have anything to do anyway.

So, making up her mind, she got up and walked to the hospital wing. Everything was quiet there. Madam Promfrey was in her office. She walked up to James' bed. He looked much brighter but his eyes closed giving him a deceased sort of look.

Lily sat beside James. She didn't know what she was there for. She was there, with James, and she felt that, that is all she wanted.

"James" she whispered in his ear. There was no sign of movement

"James, I'm sorry. I should have stayed with you. I wish I could have done something. I'm sorry that I couldn't help." she continued, her eyes were filling with tears.

"Li-lly." came a voice

Lily was startled. She looked up. It was James. He was stirring and he had said her name. His eyes were opening slowly.

Lily rushed and went to call Madam Promfrey. Lily had to tell her. She would know what to do. Madam Promfrey rushed back with Lily. By the time they got back, James had opened his eyes and was looking around with a confused look.

"Thank Heavens." said Madam Promfrey going to James. "How are you feeling?" she asked James

"Fiiine." said James feebly. His voice was weak.

"Your feeling weak. I have just the right potion for that." she told him and went off to get it.

Lily looked at James. He was smiling weakly at her. She sat beside him.

"Are you ok?" she asked

He nodded. He was looking at her in an odd sort of a way.

James leaned. Lily immeadietly backed away. He smiled and brushed her hair off from her face. Lily smiled back, feeling stupid.

At that moment, Madam Profrey came back with the potion. She gave it to James who drank it.

"That should do it." said Madam Promfrey " Miss Evans, when did you come here?" she said suddenly as though realizing something.

"Just now." said Lily

"Well, i think that it's time for you to leav. Not to mention that you are not at dinner." she said

"Let her stay. For sometime, please."pleaded James. His voice was weak but it was growing stronger.

"Well, ok. But just for a few minutes." she said

She went back into her office.

"I'm glad that you are ok. Everybody was so worried about you." said Lily

"And you?" asked James

"What about me?" asked Lily confused

"Were you worried too?" asked James

Lily was stumped. Was she worried? she thought. Ofcourse she was, after all that happened

"I was. All of us were worried." said Lily

"Lily" said James

"What?" asked Lily

"Will you go out with me?" asked James

Lily smiled.

"You know what? I have a feeling that you just ask me to go out with you, to just get to me." she said

"How did you guess?" James asked

"Shut up." said Lily and they both laughed

"I should go now." said Lily and she got up. But James held her hand

"What?" asked Lily defensively

"You didn't answer my question." he said

Lily pulled her hand free and smiled. She walked towards the door, to leave the Hospital wing.

"Come back tomorrow." said James when she was at the door

"I will." she said and she left the hospital wing

One week had passed since that day. James was out of the Hospital wing and back to normal. And since James was out of the hospital wing, that meant that Sirius was back to normal too. Over the next couple of days, Sirius seemed so happy to have James around that he was more cheerful than ever. He spent most of his time in detentions for various reasons.

He had caused havoc in the Great Hall during breakfast by setting a huge box of Dr.Filibister's fireworks. It exploded in people's plates and splattered them with food on their faces. Though Dumbledore found it highly amusing, it didn't take them long to figure out as to who was behind it and Sirius(lily thought that he deserved it) got 2 weeks worth of detentions which seemed to have put him in a better mood.

So one thing after the other, things were back to normal in Hogwarts again. Things were back to normal in hogwarts but not in the outside world. There was so much going on that Lily subscribed for the Daily Prophet. Voldemort was growing stronger and he was causing more and more trouble. The Aurors in the ministry were having a tough time. Many muggles and muggle-born were being killed.

"Oh no." said Lily

"What happned?" asked James

They were in the Great Hall for breakfast. Lily was ,as usual, reading the Daily Prophet.

"Two more muggles have been killed." said Lily sadly " It says here that the dark mark was spotted at three in the morning. The aurors got there immeadietly but it was too late. They were nowhere to be found."

"Were these done by the Death Eaters or whatever they call themselves?" asked James

"Yeah. It was." said Lily

Everybody just kept quiet. Lily, however, was more worried about her parents. She was not worried about herself at all because she knew that nothing could harm her while she was at Hogwarts. But with so many muggle killings going on, Lily was afraid for the safety of her parents.

"Lily, are you ok?" asked James, looking concerned

"yeah." said Lily

James, however, looked as if he didn't believe her.

"Everything is going to be ok." he said to Lily reassuringly

"Come on, Lily. We have to get to class." said Alice

"Coming." said Lily "Thanks." she said to James quickly

James smiled at her while Alice pulled her away.

"Why are we going so early anyway?" asked Lily running along to keep up with Alice

"Frank."Alice is one word

"Things are looking pretty serious." said Lily jokingly

"Yeah, it is. We are planning on getting married after this year." said Alice

"What?" asked Lily surprised

Alice looked at Lily pretty seriously. Then she burst out laughing.

"Just kidding." said Alice

"Whatever." said Lily

James and Lily were patroling the corridors again. This was the second time that they were doing this together. After James came out of the hospital wing, dumbledore told him that he didn't have to patrol the corridors for sometime and James agreed.

Lily however had to do her duties as a head girl but she had to patrol alone. Honestly, she was quite glad that James was back. Atleast, she wasn't alone. it was pretty boring walking along the corridors and talking to yourself(lily did that when she was bored).

"So, are you going to Hogsmeade tomorrow." asked James suddenly

"Yeah. Alice and I are going. I have to get some supplies." said Lily

"Hey Lily. Do you wanna hang out with us in Hogsmeade." said James

"Us?" asked Lily

"Yeah. Me, Moony, Padfoot and Wormtail." said James. and then he said hastily "It's not a date. You know just hang out together."

"Are you sure that Remus, Peter and Sirius won't mind." asked Lily

"Yeah. I already asked them." said James

"You already asked them? what does that mean." asked Lily, raising her eyebrows

"Well, i asked them in the morning. I planned on asking you anyway." said James

"Allright then." said Lily

"Great." said James and he smiled.

They were back in the common room. All the marauders were sitting next to the fire talking fast. Lily and Alice were completing their charms homework.

"Hey Alice. james asked if we could hang out with them tomorrow in Hogsmeade." said Lily

"And what did you say?" asked Alice not taking her eyes off the essay she was writing

"I said yes." said Lily

"Good. And oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. I will be meeting frank at the three broomsticks and he said that he will be taking me somewhere." said Alice smiling wide

"Great. What time?" asked Lily

"Around 11:30. I'll be back by 3." said Alice

"Long date." said Lily teasing Alice

"Shut up." said Alice blushing

The dawn was just breaking. The sun was just rising above the horizon. The birds were singing. It was a promising day. There seemed to be a few clouds here and there but just enough for the weather to be perfect.

Lily was looking out of her window from her dormitory.

"What a nice day." said Lily to herself.

Lily had woken up early. Everybody else was sleeping. She didn't know what to do, so she headed down to the common room. She didn't expect anybody to be there this early, but as soon as she entered the common room, she saw:

"James." said Lily, loudly

He jumped at hearing her voice.

"Lily" said James

"What are you doing here this early?" said both of them at the same time

They stared at each other and then started laughing.

"Good morning." said James as Lily took the chair facing him.

"and to you too." said Lily

"How come your up so early?" asked Lily

"Couldn't sleep. And you?" asked James

"Same here." said Lily

"I have an idea." said James suddenly

"Oh no. I don't like that tone." said Lily

"Shut up. and wait here." said James and raced up to his dormitory

He came back with a cloak.

"What is that?" asked Lily curiously

James smiled and he wrapped the cloak around himself. Suddenlt, it looked as though James' had lost his body but his head remained intact.

Lily gasped.

"I've heard about those. That is a .."

"Invisibility cloak. Your right." said James grinning "Here, try it on."

Lily took the cloak from him. It was so soft and it felt like a feather. Lily put it on and she too looked like she was floating in midair.

"Where did you get this from?" asked Lily taking the cloak off

"My dad gave it to me when I first came to hogwarts. He said that his father, that is my grandfather had given it to him around the same time as well. and my great grandfather and so on. It's been in my family for generations and I have to give to the next generation when they come to Hogwarts. My dad always said that there was so much to see in Hogwarts, that it cannot be done during the day, and so.."

"And so you sneak with the cloak at night." interrupted Lily

"Yeah." said James "We aren't suppossed to be chatting. Come." said James pulling her towards the potrait hole

"But somebody will see us." said Lily

"Not if you wear this." said James and he put the cloak on Lily and himself.

"But..." said Lily

"Shut up."hissed James, as he and Lily climbed out of the potrait hole

"Where are we going anyway?" whispered Lily

"You'll see" said James

"I can't believe that I am doing this. And we are suppossed to be the Head Boy and Head Girl too." said Lily

"There is nothing wrong in breaking the rule once." said James

"For me this is the first time. But for you... what? is this the hundreth time?" asked Lily

"Do you wanna get caught?" asked James grinning

"Like you care." said Lily

"We're almost there." said James as they made there way up the astronomy tower

"You wanted to show me the astronomy tower?" asked Lily as they climbed the stairs "I could have seen it anytime you know."

"But you couldn't have seen this." said James

Lily gasped. They were in the topmost part of the Astronomy tower. Lily had only come up here at night, but this was different. You could see the land around Hogwarts, far and wide. You could also see the lake. It looked so beautiful and peaceful. The view was breathtaking.

"Nice isn't it?" asked James behind her

"It is amazing." said Lily "Do you come here often?"

"Nah. just when I get up early like today and then want some place to go to. Sirius is too lazy to wake up." said James

Lily laughed. They spent a long time there before they went back to the common room.

Lily and Alice were walking down the streets of Hogsmeade. Lily and Alice had bought all that they needed.

"What's the time?" asked Alice

"It's 11:15." said Lily checking her watch

"I guess we better go to the three butterbeers, I mean broomsticks." said Alice

Lily laughed as she saw Alice's cheeks go red.

"What time will James meet you there?" asked Alice

"Around the same time." said Lily

They entered the three broomsticks and found James, Sirius, Remus, Peter and Frank sitting at one table. They looked up as they came in.

"Ladies, Ladies." said Sirius shaking his head "Always late."

"What are you talking about?" asked Lily "It's just 11:20. We are 10 minutes early."

"It's 11:45." said Sirius "I suggest that you make sure that your watch is working properly." he said playfully

"Whatever." said Lily "Sorry to keep you waiting Frank." said lily to Frank

"That's allright. I just came in a few minutes early myself." said Frank kindly "ready to go?" he asked Alice

Alice nodded and they left the shop together.

"So what are the plans for the day Prongsie." asked Sirius

"I dunno." said James shrugging "What do you wanna do?" he asked Lily

Lily shrugged.

"Let's go to Zonko's." said Sirius and all of them made their way to Zonko's

Lily could say that she was having the best time of her life. Zonko's was more fun that she had even anticipated. She even bought some of their products but didn't plan on using them anytime soon. She was the Head Girl, after all.

"So, where do we go now?" asked Lily as they left Zonko's

"Sorry mate. But I have to go to detention." said Sirius.

"What detention?" asked James suspiciously

"With Flich. I got into trouble with him after I kind of did something to him the other day. He said that i had detention at 1:00 and it already 12:45." said Sirius

"Ok." said James

"See ya later." said Sirius and he walked away

"Peter and I have to go too." said Remus awkardly "Both of us have something to do."

"yeah." said Peter

"Well, then we'll come too. What do we do here alone." said James

"No. No." said Remus fast "You guys have fun. Besides, you have to meet Alice and Frank later."

And he and peter walked away too.

"What was all that about?" asked James bewildered.

James and Lily looked at each other. They were gonna spend time together in Hogsmeade........................alone.

James and Lily looked at each other. They were gonna spend time together in Hogsmeade........................alone.

"Er..." said James nervously

Lily seemed to have taken the situation pretty well... She came out of her initial shock.

"Umm..." said Lily, searching for words "Er... umm.. where do you want to go?" asked Lily

James looked at Lily for a moment.

"Lily, do you wanna go back? I mean if you are uncomfortable or something, we can go back, you know. Alice will understand." said James

Lily was stumped.

"No, there's no need for that. I am fine." said Lily

"You sure?" asked James

"Yeah." said Lily awkardly

"It is a nice day." said James looking up at the sky, where a few dark clouds were covering the sun, as the temperature decreased, making it a little cold but pleasent all the same. "It'd be a shame if we went indoors."

"Do you know any good place?" asked Lily

"Well, there is this shop where this weird guy sells all old things. Sirius and I found many things in there that was really amazing." said James

"Where is it?" asked Lily

"Well, it isn't that far. Walk with me." said James

Lily and James walked past the shops. She even saw a shop that had a big heart hung in front of it. Lily had never gone in there and she never intended to either. They walked for another two minutes and James stopped .

"Here it is." said James

Overall, the shop looked like a triangle. It was pretty old and the paint was wearing off. But the shop carried an interesting look to it. Atleast, that's how it looked according to Lily.

"Come on, let's go in." said James

Lily could smell fresh polish as soon as she walked in. The room was painted yellow, gold and brown.

"Told you it was weird." said James

"Ah... Mr.Potter, back again." came a voice

Lily looked around to find a middle-aged looking man. As James said, weird was the right word for him. He wore a yellow robe that reached his knee. He wore pants under it and a weird looking tie. His hair was tied back in a ponytail but there was a certain warmth in his eye that made Lily feel comfortable.

"Hello Mr. Schizelbergaratur." said James

"Young man, I have told you to call me Schizel." he said smiling. "And who may I ask is this charming young lady?"

"This is my friend Lily." said James

"Hello." said Lily

"I shall take the priveledge to show you around." said Schizel

Schizel showed Lily around the shop while James looked at some of the items. Suddenly, an item caught her eye.

"What is that?" asked Lily pointing to a basin that was gold in color.

"That is a memory revealer." said schizel

"Memory revealer?" repeated Lily

"Yes. It is said that whenever a person is confused or not sure what is bothering them, then all they have to do is fill this with some water and look into it. You will get what you want to know." said Schizel

"Have you used it?" asked Lily

"Even if I have, I will not remember it. It holds a charm that makes everyone forget that they have used it. Noone knows what you see in it, but after you see it, you receive your answers for your problems and then completely forget that you used it." said Schizel

"But then don't you forget the answers too if you forget what you saw in it.?" asked Lily

"No. that will remain in you, as if you knew it all along." said Schizel

"Then why don't people use it more frequently?" asked Lily

"These are not entirely reliable. This just shows you the possibilities. It may take a disastorous turn if you don't consider other options and just believe what it says." said Schizel

Lily was amazed. After Schizel gave her the tour of the shop, James and Lily went out of the shop.

"That was nice." said Lily. She forgot all about being alone with James.

"Shall we go to the three broomsticks? We have only half hour for Alice to come." said James

"Ok." said Lily and they started walking back. It was getting cold now and Lily felt a drop of water on her forehead. She looked up at the sky. It was starting to rain.

"Oh no," said Lily putting her hand over her head, as it started pouring. "Let's go there" said Lily pointing to a shop that was right next to them. They had no choice but to go in there as it was raining more heavily now and they could not get into three broomsticks unless they wanted to get drenched.

Lily realized that she had walked into the wrong shop the moment that she entered. It was a small shop. There were couples all over the place either kissing or hand locked. Lily moaned as she realzied that this was the shop that had a heart hung on the front of it. Lily looked at James. He had the most revolting look on his face.

"Let's go back out." said Lily reading the look on his face, and James agreed. But as soon as they opened the door, they saw that they couldn't go out. It was raining really heavy and the wind was blowing fiercely.

"Forget it." said James as they closd the door. Lily and James awkardly took a seat on one of the tables.

"Welcome to Madam Pudifoot's. What can I get you lovebirds?" asked the lady who had come by their table

Lily and James looked at eachother. Clearly, the word 'lovebirds' had greatly disturbed him too.

"We'r not lovebirds." said James stupidly

"Ofcourse. What can I get you?" said the lady again

"Umm.. two coffees will do." said Lily

Lily and James were highly uncomfortable. James kept shifting in his seat. After they drank coffee, Lily and James waited for the rain to subside. They waited for half hour and then they went to the three broomsticks where they found Alice waiting.

"What took you guys so long?" asked Alice

"Tell you later." said Lily

"What?" laughed Alice

Lily and Alice were in their dormitory and Lily was filling Alice with the events of the day.

"It started raining and we went into the nearest shop and we ended up in Madam Pudifoot's" said Lily

"You ended up in Madam Pudifoot's?" asked Alice

Lily nodded.

"I went in there with Frank once. Isn't it romantic?" asked Alice

Lily raised her eyebrows.

"Romantic? Are you crazy? A Romantic place is the last place on earth that I'd want to be when I am with James." said Lily

"Well, I thought it was really nice. That was where Frank and I had our first..." but Alice stopped abruptly and blushed so hard, that her face was turning as red as Lily's hair.

Lily laughed.

"First what?" teased Lily

"I am tired. I have to go to sleep." said Alice and she went to her bed

"Good night." said Lily

"Nighty' night." said Alice

Lily smiled and went to her bed. She was so tired and exhausted that she fell asleep as soon as she lay on her bed.

"So Prongs, what happened?" asked Sirius, as soon as they were in the dormitory

"Nothing." said James

"Nothing? We take all the trouble to make up a story to leave you two alone and now you won't even tell us what happened?" asked Sirius

They were sitting in the common room. Almost everybody else had gone to sleep. Only, Remus, Sirius, James and Peter remained.

"I knew it." said James knowingly "I knew that you guys were lying. This is the first time that you ever lied to me, Padfoot." said James

"Stop trying to make me feel guilty cause it isn't gonna happen. Now, shut up and tell us what happened." said Sirius while Remus and Peter listened carefully.

James reckoned defeat and told them the events of the day.

"You went to Madam Pudifoot's" asked Sirius with a revolting look on his face "You could have gone anywhere else."

"Well, it was raining pretty heavily and Lily and I decided that we had no other choice but to stay there." said James

"Only idiots who don't have anything else to do go there. You could've fried an egg on your face." said Sirius laughing

"Shut up Sirius." said Remus and James at the same time

"At least James got to spend sometime with Lily. She's realized that he was not the oversized stupid headed prat that he used to be." said Remus

"Stop being so Philosiphical, Moony. Any girl in Hogwarts is ready to go with James." said Sirius

"Everybody but Lily." corrected James

"She'll come around mate." said Sirius. "She went out with you didn't she? She chose not to come back but to spend time with you in Hogsmeade."

James went to bed with a smile on his face.

"Wake up." came a voice

Lily opened her eyes and was immeadietly hit by dazzling sunlight. Somebody had opened the window.

"What?" asked Lily groggily, hiding beneath her blanket.

"Get up" said Alice "You'll be late for breakfast."

Lily got up, even though she wanted to go back to sleep. Alice and Lily went to the Great Hall and found the Marauders there.

"Good morning." said the Marauders as they saw them coming

"Good morning." said Lily and Alice.

"So Lily, how was your day yesterday? Did Prongs bore you to death?" asked Sirius with a mishcevious grin on his face.

Lily looked at Sirius, as if trying to read what was going on in his mind.

"It was good." said Lily, in short

"Just good?" asked Sirius

Lily was about to give a witty response when Sirius swore

"Ouch James, that hurt." said Sirius wincing

"What are you talking about Padfoot?" asked James, putting one the most innocent face that one could imagine.

"Why did you...Ouch!!!" said Sirius again.

"Come on Alice, Let's go." said Lily. She sensed that the conversation was going to turn pretty embarassing. She pulled Alice away and exited the Great Hall.

As soon as Lily went, Sirius turned to James

"What did you step on my foot for. I think that I've broken some bones." said Sirius looking at his feet

"Why were you pestering her?" asked James

"I wasn't pestering her. I was just asking her how her day was." said Sirius laughing.

"You better shut up, before I think of a curse." said James

"Allright. Am I not allowed to have some fun?" asked Sirius

"You were fishing for more than just fun."" said James knowingly.

Several weeks had passed since the Hogsmeade disaster. Everybody was fine and back to normal. Lily had to endure a few more days of sirius's teasing until he got tired of it.

"Hey Lily." said Alice, pointing to the notice board "Check it out."

Lily and Alice were in the common room along with the marauders. It was a weekend and they had just came back up from the breakfast. Alice was pointing to the new notice that was pinned on the notice board.

"Hogsmeade trip on February 14th." announced Lily, reading the board

"That's on Valentines day!"said Alice, excited. She was obivously waiting to tell Frank.

The Marauders didn't look much interested, as if they couldn't care less. But Lily caught James' eye. He was looking at her intently. She felt her cheeks turning red and she turned away.

Lily and James were patroling the corridors, as usual. Lily checked to see if anybody was there in an open classroom, and then closed the door.

"Lily?" said James, suddenly

"Yeah?" asked Lily turning towards him

"Are you going to the next Hogsmeade trip?" asked James

Lily knew what James wanted to say. He was going to ask her out to Hogsmeade again. She knew that her answer was no. So she just kept quiet.

"Do you wanna..." said James but Lily interrupted him

"James. Why don't you got to the other side and see if anyone's around. In the meantime, let me check these corridors." said Lily

James frowned

"But we always check all the corridors together." said James

"Yeah, but I am really tired today and wanna go to bed as soon as possible." said Lily

James nodded and went in the other direction.

Ofcourse, that was not why Lily had sent him. She was trying to avoid James asking the question cause she knew that she would say no, and she didn't want to see James disappoined again. Lily sighed.

I have to face him one day. she thought I can't avoid James forever. James and Lily were getting along so well as friends that she didn't want to spoil it. She knew that James and her would never click. She just wanted to avoid it as much as possible.

As Lily was passing through one of the classroom, she heard a voice from inside it. She leaned closer to the door to hear what was going on.

"I told you... I am not going to do it." hissed someone. It sounded like Snape.

"Why not?" asked a second voice, and it sounded like Lucius, one of Snape's friends.

"How do you expect me to get away with it?" asked Snape

"She's nothing but a filthy mudblood." growled Lucius. Lily frowned as she heard that insulting word.

"But she is also the Head Girl." said Snape. Lily did a double-take. There were talking about her.

"So what?" asked Lucius

"So what? Are you crazy? Dumbledore will make sure that he finds out who attacked her." said Snape

"But you didn't care about that with Potter." said Lucius

"I told you already. I had no other choice. He was too close to me and he would have surely felt me. An invisibility cloak cannot make a person untouchable." said Snape.

So, snape had an invisibility cloak too. And he had attacked James too. and now they were planning to attack her. But what was surprising was that, snape seemed to be protecting her and that unnerved Lily.

"I assure you," continued Snape " I will get her before we leave school." said Snape

All the sympathy that she has felt for snape a moment ago vanished. So, he was not protecting her, he was protecting himself.

"Ok, we should go now." said Lucius and he heard them walking towards the door.

Lily looked around frantically. She saw an open classroom ahead and she dashed in quickly. She heard Snape and Lucius walk away.

So, she thought Snape was the one who attacked James. But what was he doing there in the classroom. I am sure that he was upto something. But she had more pressing matters at hand. She had to tell James about who attacked him. He had the right to know. But if she told him, she knew that Snape and James would get into a fierce fight and she wanted to avoid it as much as possible.

But on the other hand, she as the Head Girl, and it was her responsibility to tell someone about it. She didn't know what to do.

"Lily, are you there?" came James' voice

Lily came out of the classroom.

"Yeah. Are you done?" asked Lily "Can we go to the common room. I am really tired." said Lily and she started walking

James looked as though he was going to stop her but he thought better of it and followed her. As they entered through the potrait hole, Lily saw Alice sitting with Frank. Lily made up her mind, she would tell Alice about it and she would know what to do.

"Frank, can I borrow Alice for a sec.?" asked Lily

"That's fine Lily. I was going to go to sleep anyway. Goodnight Alice." said Frank and he kissed Alice on the cheek. As he withdrew, Lily saw that Alice's cheek had gone bright red.

"Goodnight." said Alice

Meanwhile, Lily said Goodnight to James as he went up to his dormitory.

"So, what's up?" asked Alice

Lily told Alice all what she had heard. Alice remained silent as Lily finished the story.

"Lily, you have to tell James." said Alice

"I can't. They'd probably get into a fight." said Lily

"But James has the right to know." argued Alice

Lily pondered on Alice's words for a second.

"Fine." said Lily, finally "I'll tell him tomorrow."

Lily and Alice went up to their dormitory after sometime. Lily's head was filled with a strange buzzing as she went to sleep.

Lily woke up the next day feeling very nervous. She had no idea as to how James would react to the news. She hoped that it would not result in a fight cause that could be dangerous and she wanted to avoid it as much as possible. And knowing James and Snape, she knew that they would show no mercy for each other.

"How are you feeling?" asked Alice, as she watched Lily play around with her food at breakfast.

"I don't know.. Nervous I guess." said Lily

The Marauders had not come to breakfast yet. Lily was glad that they were late, because that meant that she could have more time to pluck up courage to tell James. She didn't understand why she was this nervous anyway.

"It'll be ok." said Alice reassuringly

The Marauders arrived within seconds...

"Good morning." said Sirius, in his usual charming manner

"Sorry we're late." said James

"Yeah.. we kinda got caught up in things." said Remus and all of them grinned as if they were exchanging a joke

Lily smiled in a scared sort of way. She didn't know what to do. James seemed to have noticed.

"Are you ok?" asked James and Lily nodded.

It was amazing how James knew what Lily was feeling. She always tried her best to hide her emotions but James always seemed to know what was going on inside her mind. It was really hard to keep anything from him these days.

Alice gave Lily a meaningful look and Lily understood.

"James, I need to talk to you about something." said Lily

"Ok." said James "I'm listening."

"Not here." said Lily "In private."

James looked at Lily, surprised. Sirius was giving James and Lily an amused sort of look.

"Ok." said James, getting up. Lily and James got up and left the Great Hall.

"What do you think Lily wanted to tell James." asked Sirius as soon Lily and James had left the Great Hall.

Alice looked at Sirius as if she was about to say something but then she just kept quiet.

"Come on Alice. We know that you know. Tell us. Was she gonna ask James out, cause if she was then you have to tell us. We might have to get something for shock. Prongsie would probably flip out and die of shock." said Sirius in a playful voice.

"Shut up Sirius. It's not about that." said Alice

"Then what is it about?" asked Peter curiously

"Nothing." said Alice and she abandoned her food and left the great hall.

"What was that about?" asked Remus

"I dunno. We better find out though." said Sirius

James and Lily found an empty classroom. Lily closed the door as both of them entered.

"What did you want to tell me?" asked James

Lily bit her lip nervously. She had to tell him and now was her chance.

"Lily, come on tell me." said James

"James, give me sometime." said Lily and she started walking up and down the classroom.

James gave Lily a bemused look and he sat down at one of the desks patiently waiting for Lily to tell him. About three minutes passed in silence, when James broke the ice.

"Lily?" asked James

"Ok. I am ready." said Lily

James stood up facing Lily.

"Remember that night when someone attacked you?" asked Lily

"Vividly." said James darkly

"I think I know who it is." said Lily

"Who is it?" asked James urging Lily

"It was..... Snape." said Lily waiting for James' reaction.

"WHAT?" was all James could say.

"James I know that you are upset and.... but please don't make a big scene out of this." pleaded Lily

"Make a big scene? Lily, I could kill Snape right now." said James angrily

"James.. please listen to me.. There is no point in fighting right now. What is done is done. Don't start a fight please." said Lily

"Why do you care?" asked James suddenly "After all the names that he calls you and after all that he has done, why do you show so much sympathy for him?"

"It's not the question about sympathy James." said Lily "you just shouldn't react to it. If you react to it, he knows that it's getting to you. Please don't start a fight. Atleast don't do it for my sake."

"Fine." said James finally "I'm not gonna do anything."

Lily breathed, relieved. She didn't want to tell James that Snape had planned to attack her too. She knew that even she couldn't stop James from fighting with Snape if he came to know about this.

"Thanks." said Lily

James and Lily walked out of the classroom but stopped abruptly. Sirius, Peter and Remus were standing outside the door. Sirius looked extremely angry and Peter and Remus were trying to calm him down.

"Hi.. Padfoot." said James uncertainly

Sirius looked at Lily and James for a moment and then stomped off in the other direction.

"How much did he hear?" asked Lily to Remus and Peter

"Everything." said Remus "He's not gonna keep quiet though. He would have forgiven Snape if Snape had attacked him, but he can never bear the thought of anybody hurting James. He is very protective about him, you know. But I think that you were right to ask James to keep quiet about this.

"I know. I think we better go and do something." said Lily and they hurried to catch up with James and Sirius.

"Padfoot listen." James was saying when they were catching up with him "Don't do anything."

Sirius just kept walking angrily. He refused to listen to James.

Snape was just walking out of the Great Hall when they encountered him.

"Ah! The Fantastic Four with the Mudblood." sneered Snape

All the patience that James was showing seemed to vanish within seconds. Both Sirius and James fired a hex at Snape at the same time. One deflected and hit the wall but one spell hit Snape and he was blasted off his feet.

"James, Sirius. No." said Lily coming in between James, Sirius and Snape.

"Lily. Look out." said James

Before Lily could react, before she knew what was happening, she felt everything go black around her as she fell to the floor.

"Lily!!!!" came a voice inside Lily's head.

She opened her eyes. Alice, Peter and Remus were standing beside her bed, looking worried. She sat up slowly. She was in the hospital wing.

"What happened?" asked Lily

"Snape fired a spell and it hit you." said Alice appologetically "I think that he meant to get James or Sirius but...." and she just shrugged

"Where's James and Sirius?" Lily asked Remus

"With McGonagall. She was barking mad. I have never seen her get this mad before. James wanted to be here but she made him go with her first." said Remus

"What happened to Snape?" asked Lily

"He's with McGonagall too." said Alice

"How long have I been here?" asked Lily, as she saw that it was dark outside.

"You've been here for a couple of hours. Madam Promfrey will be happy to know that you are awake." said Alice

Just then, the door opened and James and Sirius entered the room. James looked a little angry at first but he brightened up as soon as he saw Lily awake.

"How are you feeling?" asked James kindly as he sat beside her

"Fine. What did McGonagall do?" asked Lily

"Gave us a weeks worth of detentions including Snively." said Sirius "She gave us a one hour lecture about responsibility or some ****. Then she made us sit in an empty classroom together."

"Alone?" asked Lily, surprised that McGonagall would leave Snape, Sirius and James in the same room.

"No. She knew that we'd start fighting again. so she made Filch watch us." said James

"This girl needs rest." came Madam Promfrey's voice "Out all of you."

"Bye." said everyone as they left the room.

"Bye" said Lily

Lily left the hospital wing the very next day. She wasn't eager to stay there anyway. She went to breakfast to find Alice and the rest of the marauders at the table.

"Hi." said Lily as she sat down

"Hi. We were just coming to see you. Why didn't you tell us that you were coming out?" asked Alice

"I finally persuaded Madam Promfrey to let me go." said Lily

"You should have stayed there. You need more rest." said James

"I am fine. Don't fret." said Lily

"Why don't we go for a walk outside after breakfast?" asked Alice as she helped herself to more toast

"Great Idea." said the Sirius and the others agreed.

"Hi James." said someone behind Lily.

Lily turned around to find Martha.

"Hi." said James carelessly

"Can I talk to you?" asked Martha "In private?" she added as the others listened in closely

"Why?" asked Sirius

"That's none of your buisness, Sirius." said Lily as she saw Martha go red. It was true that she didn't like Martha that much but that didn't mean that she wouldn't defend her.

James looked at Sirius, Remus and Peter, who nodded.

"Sure." said James and he left the table with Martha.

"I never liked her." said Alice

"Me too." agreed Remus

"She's nothing but another girl who's swooning for Prongs" said Sirius

"That's not very nice, Sirius." said Lily as everybody else laughed.

"Well, it's true." said Sirius " and you can't deny that."

"How do you know if it's true?" asked Lily

"Oh come on Lily. Isn't it obvious." said Sirius

Lily was about to reply when Alice cut in.

"I read in a book once that if a person touches their face a lot when they are talking to someone, it means that they like them."

"Really. That's weird." said Remus

"Yeah. and if the person crosses their leg against another person, that means that they don't like them." said Alice

"Which book was that?" asked Lily.

"Some book about body language. I picked it up in Paris." said Alice

Just then James entered the Great Hall and sat at the table.

"What did she want?" asked Sirius as soon as he sat down at the table

"Asked me out to Hogsmeade on Valentine's day." said James without interest

"I knew it. What did you say?" asked Sirius

"Told her that I couldn't come because I had detention." said James

"We don't have detention on Valentine's day." said Sirius

"I know. But what was i suppossed to say. I don't wanna come with you?" asked James

"Yeah. I am glad that you said no anyway. I can't stand her." said Alice

Lily didn't want to participate in the conversation at all.

"Shall we go outside?" asked Lily as everybody finished their food.

"Ok." said everyone and all of them walked out of the Great Hall.

"What a beautiful day." said Lily as she walked towards the lake.

"Let's go to Hagrid's." said Sirius

"I can't." said Alice "I just saw Frank. I'll be back." she said and she left in the opposite direction

"I'll just stay here." said Lily

"Are you sure?" asked James

"Yeah. You go ahead." said Lily

Lily walked towards the lake and sat under the tree beside the lake. The weather was perfect as it was fairly warm. It was sunny and bright and the trees reflected off the lake beautifully. For Lily, it was the perfect place to think clearly. The past few days had been so hectic for her that this was just what she needed. A place that was really quiet. She just sat there for half- an hour and stared at the lake.

"Hey." said James as he sat beside her

"Hey. Where's Sirius, Remus and Peter?" asked Lily

"Still at Hagrid's." said James

"How come you are here then?" asked Lily

"They kicked me out of the house." said James and Lily laughed

"Nice day, isn't it?" asked James

"Yeah." said Lily. "James, I have to ask you something."

"Go ahead." said James

Lily didn't know how to say it but this had been bothering her since they had left the Great Hall.

"Did you say no to going out with Martha because of me. Cause if you did then please don't." said Lily

"No Lily. I don't like her." said James

Lily breathed a sigh of relief

"And besides, the girl that I like absolutely refuses to go out with me because she thinks that I am a brainless git." said James playfully

"Very funny." said Lily

James smiled and brushed Lily's hair off her face. He leaned in closer. Lily's body seemed to have paralysed and she couldn't move. They were really close now. Their faces were just an inch apart.

"There you are." said Alice as she walked towards Lily and James

James and Lily immeadietly moved apart. Lily came back to her senses.

What the hell was I doing? thought Lily

Lily spent the rest of the day in confusion. She didn't know the what the feeling was that she felt towards James. She had taken it to be friendship but it was evident from her actions that it was different. Why was she paralysed? Why couldn't she move? Did she really love James?

I have to be careful she thought I can't give myself away like this. This is crazy.

Lily had not told Alice about it because she didn't know what Alice would say. But Lily had a faint idea that Alice might say that Lily liked James. I don't like James she kept telling herself but she didn't know if it was true or if she was lying to herself.

"Lily, Are you ok? You seem a bit lost" said Alice

"Uh!!" said Lily.. They were in the transfiguration classroom where they were trying to conjure a table. Lily and Alice were partners and it seemed that Lily had gone into one of her trances again.

"yeah. I am fine." said Lily

"Are you sure?" asked Alice worried and Lily nodded

"Hey so what are you doing for Valentines day?" asked Alice

"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it. Are you going to Hogsmeade with Frank?" asked Lily

"yeah. I'll be back soon though. You can hang out with James, Sirius and Remus until then." said Alice

Lily didn't answer. She didn't know what to say. She hadn't confronted James after the lake incident. She kept hoping that she wouldn't run into him and she hadn't. She didn't know how he would react to it. She did see him during classes but she used to move away before he could talk to her. Many times she had gone out of her way to avoid meeting him. Two days had passed since the incident and she knew that she had to confront him eventually. But she just didn't want it to be soon.

Lily was eating breakfast. It was still early but this was another step she had to take to avoid James. Alice was still sleeping and Lily didn't want to wake her up. She finished eating and she left the Great Hall. As she walked out of the giant oak doors, somebody who was standing on the other side of the door, reached out and caught her hand.

Surprised, she turned around to see who it was. It was James. He was looking pretty worried. He pulled her towards a corner and looked into her eyes. Lily felt the same sensation sweep through her as she had felt at the lake. Lily looked away from his eyes and looked down at the floor instead.

"Lily.. Why have you..." said James but Lily interrupted him

"Listen James. Before you say anything, I just have to say this. The other day... I was out of my mind. I didn't mean to... you know... I just don't feel that way towards you." said Lily

James looked at Lily as if trying to calculate as to what was going through her mind.

"Lily, I...." said James but Lily interrupted him again

"I don't want to lose this friendship, James. It's just gonna be too awkward later. So don't spoil it." said Lily

"Fine." said James "If that's what you think."

"Thanks." said Lily

"So will you stop avoiding me now?" asked James

"I wasn't avoiding you.. I was just....." said Lily searching for words

"Even I am not that stupid Lily. You were avoiding me." said James "That's why I had to make sure that I catch you during breakfast. Little did I know that you wake up so early."

Lily smiled. James was really sweet. She didn't know why she didn't want to go out with him. But, after all those years of hatred, it was hard for her to change her feelings. But she had developed a soft spot for him nonetheless.

"So... we have a lot of time left until classes start." said James, looking at his watch "What do you want to do?"

"I don't know. Why don't we just go to the common room." said Lily

"No. Why don't we go to the astronomy tower again?" asked James

"Ok." said Lily and they left to the astronomy tower.

As they reached the top, she remembered the first time that James had brought her there. It was so peaceful and it was the same now.. Lily looked at the calm lake.

"This is so beautiful." said Lily as she breathed slowly

"yeah." said James "Sometimes, I sit here for hours at a time and I just don't feel the time pass by."

"It's hard to. I mean, this whole place just fills you up. i should come here more often." said Lily

"Tomorrow is full moon." said James suddenly

"How is Remus doing?" asked Lily

"He's ok. He hates the transformations though. I mean, evethough we are there, it is extremely difficult for him to go through this. I wish we knew some way to make him feel better during the transformations.

"I know.." said Lily

"He always worries that he will hurt someone during the transformations. He was totally out of his mind when he found out that he had attacked you last year. He didn't even talk to us for two days." said James

"It must be really hard on him. But you guys did all that you could. That was a really brave thing to do, to risk being an animagi like that. Things could go awfully wrong if you don't do it right." said Lily

"we were worried about that too. But later we decided it was worth taking the risk because Remus couldn't be alone and he would come up with really bad bruises every month." said James

"Does Dumbledore know about this? About you guys being animaguses?" asked Lily

"No, he doesn't. But he knows about Remus though. He was the one who said that the shrieking shack would be the best place." said James

"yeah." said Lily

"Hey Lily. What are you doing on Valentines Day?" asked James

"Why?" asked Lily

"well, since Alice is going to be with Frank.... what are you up to?" asked James

"I don't know. Haven't thought about it." said Lily

"Do you want to come with us like last time?" asked James

Lily thought about what happned last time that James and Lily were together in Hogsmeade.

"No. I'd rather be here. Plus, I have a lot of work to complete." said Lily

"Ok.." said james but he did look faintly disappointed

"So are you buying anything from Zonko's again?" asked Lily just to distract him

"Well. Sirius has this idea but he won't tell us." said James

"It better not be dangerous... you're the.." said Lily

"Head Boy; i know. Who cares." said james carelessly

"You're crazy." said Lily

"About you." said James

Lily started feeling awkward again.

"I think we should go now." said Lily and James and Lily went back to the common room.

Several days had passed since the incident. In the past few days, nothing great had happened except that Gryffindor had won their first Quidditch Match. They beat Slytherin 320-20 points. The Slytherins were furious that they had such a bad defeat, especially from their worst enemies. Sirius and James seemed more jubliant than usual and made it a point to talk about the game loudly anytime they were close to a Slytherin. To James and Sirius, that was the best way to make the Slytherins angry. And as usual, they were right, the Slytherins were developing such hatred for the Gryffindors, that Lily thought that it would be unwise to leave two Gryffindors and Slytherins together.

So, all in all, and several days later, it was Valentine's day. This was not one of the days that Lily was looking forward too. She would have loved to be with the Marauders but considering the past, she knew that she had made a wise decision. But she did not know what she would do as Alice would not be there.

Lily and Alice were having breakfast. The Marauders were not there yet. Frank was sitting next to Alice and she looked really cheerful. Lily was about to tell Alice something when she felt someone tap her shoulder. She looked around to find Martha.

"Hey, Lily. Can I talk to you for a second?" asked Martha

Lily looked around at Alice who looked at Lily. Alice nodded.

"Sure." said Lily

Lily and Martha walked out of the Great Hall. Lily mind was racing. She had no idea as to why Martha had wanted to talk to her.

"Lily, can I ask you something?" asked Martha

"Sure. Go ahead." said Lily

"Are you going out with James?" asked Martha

Lily was startled. She had not seen that coming. Why on earth would Martha ask that.

"No." said Lily "Why would you ask that?"

"Well... it's just that...you seem nice to him now, and then when I asked him out he said no." she shrugged "I thought that... well... he seems to be oblivious to everything and everyone else except you... and I mean.. it's not a secret that he likes you... and...I don't know." stuttered Martha

Lily was completely nonpulssed. She had no idea what to say. She quickly gained control of her voice and said:

"Well, you thought wrong." It was hard to keep the note of confusion in her voice "We are just friends."

"Just friends?" asked Martha

"Just friends." repeated Lily firmly

"Lily can I ask you a favour?" asked Martha

"A wha... ok." said Lily. she just wanted to be done with the conversation and go back to the great hall.

"Can you ask James again if he'll go out with me. I mean, he might listen to you." said Martha timidly

"YOU WANT ME TO WHAT?" said Lily loudly

"Well, you said you were just friends." said Martha

"SO? I can't force James to go out with you. I mean, he is an adult and can make his own decisions for himself." said Lily

"Does that mean you like him?" asked Martha

"No Martha... That is not what I mean. You have no idea what you are talking about." said Lily dismissively

"Well, I think I do. You won't go out with him and you won't let anyone else either." said Martha, a note of anger in her voice

"You know what? You're crazy. You asked him to go out with you, yourself. So isn't it clear where he stands?" asked Lily

"But maybe he just said no becuase he thinks that you like him" said Martha

Lily stared at Martha for a long time. She had no idea where this conversation was leading to. Martha was crazy. She was making absolutely no sense.

"You make no sense." said Lily and she turned around and started to walk away

"You just don't want to admit that you like him." said Martha

"I'm saying this for the last time. i don't like him." said Lily through gritted teeth

"Then prove it." said Martha triumphantly "Ask him to go out with me."

"FINE." said Lily "But whatever he says is totally upto him and you have to accept it."

"Fine." said Martha and she walked away.

"How low can a person get?" asked Alice

Lily had pulled Alice away from the Great Hall and they were in the common room now. Lily had just told Alice as to what had happened with Martha.

"I know." said Lily

"So, what are you going to do?" asked Alice

"Well, I suppose that I have to ask him. Don't I?" asked Lily

"You don't have to." said Alice fairly

"But then, she is so annoying. I am sure that she won't let go until I've asked James." said Lily

Alice and Lily just looked at each other for a moment. Lily knew that she would have to ask James.

Lily was in the common room sitting by the fire. The common room was empty as most people had gone to Hogsmeade. It was 3 'o' clock in the afternoon. Lily was bored but she had other important matters in her hands. She was thinking as to how she would ask James. Just as she was thinking, the potrait hole opened and James walked in. He seemed startled to see Lily.

"Hi." said James as he walked towards her

"Hi." said Lily

"I thought that you'd be in the library or something." said James

Lily just shrugged.

"What's wrong?" asked James

"Nothing" said Lily

"Are you angry with me again?" asked James

"No." said Lily

"Then what?" asked James

"Nothing." said Lily

"I may not be as smart as you but I am not stupid." said James and he held Lily's shoulders " What's wrong?"

"Will you go out with Martha?" asked Lily

"What?" asked James loudly "No. I told you that. I won't go out with her. Why would you ask me that?"

James seemed completely unnerved. Lily couldn't help but smile when she saw James' face. Lily decided that it was best to tell James the truth. She recounted the conversation with Martha. James' face grew angrier with each sentence.

"How stupid can she get?" asked James "I can't believe her."

Lily just remained silent.

"I'm sorry that you had to go through this because of her." said James

"That's fine." said Lily "What are you going to tell her?"

"Don't worry. I'll take care of Martha." said James with a glint of mischief in his eyes. Lily didn't even want to know as to what he was planning.

"I'm feeling tired." said Lily "I am going to sleep."

She got up and she was about to go, when James pulled her hand. Lily turned and he pulled her close to him. And as before, she felt a strange sensation sweep through. Her brain was telling her to move away but her heart asked her to stay. Her body wasn't responding to her.

When James saw the panic in her eyes, he smiled. He moved away.

"Just Kidding. Just making sure that you don't like me." he said and then laughed. But Lily saw the look in his eyes that conveyed sadness.

"I have to go." said Lily again and she left as fast as she could to her dormitory.

When Lily entered her dormitory, it was completely empty. She opened the curtains surrouding her bed slowly. She sat on her bed, thinking fast. She was glad that she had told James about Martha and that it was over, but now she was seeing James in a whole new way. A way, she wasn't very proud of.. She was actually starting to like James. She had never thought of it as possible. Perhaps, she was so occupied in hating him that she had not seen him changing from a hot headed prat to a really nice person. The change was irresistable. Suddenly, she knew why he was the most wanted guy in Hogwarts.

But admitting to herself that she liked James was admitting defeat. Lily didn't know as to why she had felt that way. But she had really hated him and had always thought that it would remain that way. She was scared. She was scared that she might do something stupid. She wanted to just be in this dormitory forever and not go out there and face James. Lily knew that her eyes gave away too much. And James was particularly good at reading Lily like a book. She was really caught up in her thoughts. She didn't know how long she sat there.

Unwillingly, Lily fell asleep.

Lily was walking down a corridor. It looked a lot like the Hogwarts corridor on the seventh floor. She opened the door of an unlocked classroom and found James having a heated discussion with someone. It was a girl. But Lily did not recognize her.

"But you said..." said the girl angrily

"Forget what I said, I really like her." said James equally angry

And with that, James walked out of the classroom. Lily followed him quickly knowing that he needed a friend right now. She caught up with James. He was smashing everything in his way. She had never seen him this angry before.

"James, stop." said Lily, but James just kept walking on breaking everything in sight.

Suddenly, she remembered something that her mother had once told her.

"The best way to treat someone who is angry, is by hugging them until they calm down." she heard her mother's voice inside her head.

Without thinking twice, Lily pulled James into a tight hug. It was something that Lily had never felt before. A strange sensation swept through her like warm water in a cold storm. Lily never wanted to break away from that hug. It was so warm and at the same time so passionate. That hug felt like she was holding the person she wanted all along in her arms. She opened her eyes and breathed slowly as they pulled away from the hug. James smiled. He took her face in his hands and leaned forward.

"Lily, get up." came a voice

Lily woke up from her dream abruptly.

"Are you ok?" asked Alice pulling Lily up

"Yeah. Why?" asked LIly

"You were talking in your sleep. Bad dream?" asked Alice

"Worst yet." said Lily as she recalled her dream.

"That bad?" asked Alice

"You have no idea." muttered Lily taking off her bed cover "What time is it?"

"Around 6 'o' clock." said Alice "Just got back."

"How did it go?" asked Lily

"Great." said Alice in a tone that clearly meant that she was looking back at the moments she had just experienced. "I am going back to the common room. Coming?" asked Alice as she got up from her bed

"Yup. I'll be right there. You go ahead. I have to get changed first." said Lily

"Ok" said Alice and she left the dormitory.

Lily, however, had no intention of changing. She was looking back to the dream that she just had. It was so strange.

Great she thought This just makes it more complicated. Why did I have to dream this? I could have hugged Brad Pitt, but no, it had to be James. Argh... this is so frustrating. Why is this happening to me?

Moreover, the fact that worried Lily the most was that the way the hug had felt. It had felt so right. She was wondering as to what it would feel like in reality.

I have to get over this. This is totally insane. I can't get upset about some stupid dream. This is crazy. she kept telling her self. But it was of no use, her mind kept drifting back to the dream.

Lily left the dormitory and entered the common room. The first person she saw was James. He was playing Exploding Snap with Sirius while Remus was trying to teach Peter an exceptionally hard spell. Lily couldn't help but notice James' smile and his face and the way he looked.

"Hey Lily." said James and Sirius

"Want to Join?" asked James

"No thanks. Not in the mood." said Lily, her eyes searching for Alice. She was sitting by the fire. Lily went over and sat next to her. She bit her lip nervously. She was wondering whether to tell Alice about the dream or not.

"Want to tell me something?" asked Alice

"How do you know?" asked Lily surprised

"Well, when you're nervous, you bite your lip." said Alice, smiling.

"So what did you want to tell me?" asked Alice

Lily bit her lip again. She was sure that Alice would think that it was ridiculous. Perhaps, Lily had no idea why she was so upset about a stupid dream. After all, it was just a dream.

"Nothing." said Lily

"Are you sure?" asked Alice unconvinced

"yeah." said Lily

"Hey Lily." said somebody behind her. It was Martha

"Hi Martha." said Lily bemused

"Can I talk to you?" asked Martha

Lily got up and followed Martha to the corner of the room. Lily saw James' eyes following them.

"Did you ask him?" asked Martha

"As a matter of fact, I did." said Lily

"What did he say?" asked Martha

"Why don't you ask him yourself." said Lily deciding it was best for James to handle it.

"Well.. why don't YOU tell me." said Martha angrily

James, sensing the conversation was going to turn ugly, quickly came to Lily's aid.

"Hey." said James joining their private conversation and standing next to Lily

Martha immeadietly put on the sweetest smile on her face. Lily couldn't help but laugh at the revolting look on James' face. Suddenly, she felt James shoulder on hers and she was suddenly aware as to how close they were. Again, she felt a warmth spread through her. Immeadietly, she moved away a little from James. James did not seem to notice. He was too intent upon Martha.

"Martha, is there something that you wanted to tell me?" asked James with a mischevous grin "or ask me?"

"Urmm..." said Martha looking at Lily

Lily caught James' eyes, which clearly meant that she had to leave.

"Umm... I just remembered that I have to do something." said Lily and she left. She pulled Alice out of the common room and out of the potrait hole.

"What?" asked Alice defensively, as they walked throught the empty corridor.

Lily told Alice about her conversation with James that afternoon.

"Atleast it went well. I can't wait to see what James does with her." said Alice

Lily nodded but she was really not listening.

Lily and Alice re-entered the common room after some time, only to find James and Martha sitting together in one chair. Sirius and the rest of the Marauders were in one corner of the common room laughing hard at something. Lily didn't know what was going on. James caught her eye and winked at her. Martha looked at Lily and smiled.

"What's going on?" asked Alice puzzled

"I have no idea." said Lily

Lily and Alice walked up to where Sirius, Peter and Remus were sitting.

"What's happening?" asked Alice

"Didn't you know? James and Martha are going out." said Sirius half-laughing

"What?" said Lily and Alice together

Remus explained "Martha wanted James to go out with her. So James is giving Martha what she wants."

"Huh?" askd Alice

"You'll see. Just wait for something to happen tomorrow." said Sirius with a knowing look.

Alice and Lily were confused but did not say anything. All Lily knew was that she didn't like Martha sitting that close to James. It was making her feel really......jealous? or was it sad? She didn't know what she it was but it wasn't happiness.

Lily was awaken by Alice next morning. They got dressed and left to the Great Hall where they found James and Martha sitting close together and the Marauders sitting opposite them. Sirius caught Lily's eye and pointed the empty space next to him which meant that she had to sit there.

"Don't talk." whispered Sirius as soon as she sat down "Just see what happens."

"Good Morning." said James to Lily

"And to you too." said Lily

Martha looked put out for one second and then she continued talking to James not paying the slightest attention to Lily. Lily didn't care. She was too busy thinking as to what was gonna happen. Lily noticed that none of them had food on their plates.

"Why isn't anyone eating?" asked Lily

"Oh." said James acting surprised "I was so busy talking to Martha that I forgot. She is just so interesting."

Martha looked at James as if she could't believe her luck.

"That is so sweet. But I am not that interesting." said Martha sweetly

"See. She is so modest." said James

Matha blushed furiously. Lily was intent on keeping her eyes on her plate cause she was afraid that she would die of laughter if she looked up. To hide everything, Remus said:

"Let's eat. I am starving."

Everyone filled their plates with toast and eggs. Then Lily looked at James and she almost choked on her plate. James was eating in the most disgusting way that one could imagine. An animal would have eaten better than him. He smeared his face with butter as he put his toast in his mouth. Lily looked at Sirius and Remus, and they seemed really close to laughter. Suddenly, Lily understood. This was the Marauders way to get rid of Martha.

Martha looked at James and was really puzzled. Obviously, she had never seen James eat like this.

"So, tell me more about yourself" said James, his mouthful. Many tiny bread crumbs landed on Martha's lap.

"Er..." said Martha clearly disgusted.

But James did not pay any attention. He took his goblet of pumpkin juice and drank it, half the contents spilling over his shirt. Martha immeadietly moved away from James.

"Um.. I think that I am done eating." said Martha "I should really go now."

"Wait. I'll come too." said James getting up, as he knocked over his plate.

"Er. Ok." said Martha. As James left the table, he winked at everyone.

"Oh My gosh! That was hilarious." said Alice

The others were laughing really hard to respond. After three minutes or so, the laughter subsided.

"I can't wait to see what he's gonna do next." said Peter

"What is he going to do?" asked Lily

"All we can tell you is that Martha would have had enough of James by the end of the day." said Sirius

Lily was more than sure that it was going to come true.

James acted totally abnormal for the rest of the day. He never paid any attention to whatever Martha said. As soon as Martha started talking, he would say something stupid like. 'That is a tree.' or 'You have a nose'. He seemed to be testing Martha's patience. It became increasingly annoying throughout the day.

Lily and Alice were sitting next to the fire in the common room. They had just left James and Martha at dinner and now they were doing their homework. The Marauders were looking at the potrait hole expectantly. Suddenly, the potrait hole opened and Martha accompanied by James, entered. They sat next to Lily, Alice and the Maruaders.

"Your eyes shine like that of a turtles." said James loudly enough so that everyone could here.

"Um.. thanks James." said Martha clearly embarassed

"You're hair is softer than stone and brighter than the moon." continued James in a poetic voice.

Lily looked at everyone else. They seemed to be controlling their laughter but without success. Sirius gave out a loud snort which was passed as a sneeze.

"Your hand is better than sandpaper and so lovely." said James

Martha wasn't sure how to respond.

"Though.. you're skin could use some lotion. Do you want mine?" asked James "I can get it for you Sweetheart."

"Listen James.. I have to tell you something." said Martha

"Yes Darling." said james

"Er.. I don't think that we should go out anymore." said Martha

James acted as if he was heart broken. He buried his face in his hands and started to sob.

"How can you do this to me." said James

Martha looked highly uncomfortable. James got up and left the room and Martha followed.

"This is our part." said Sirius and all of them including Lily and Alice left the common room.

There they found Martha and James. She was patting him on the back.

"What's going on?" asked Martha as she saw them come

Sirius and Peter pulled something out of their pockets and whispered something with their wand in their hands. Immeadietly, it hissed and sparkled and flew out of their hands. On the Wall, it made a bright red sign that said,

'AND THAT'S HOW WE GET RID OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU.'

Martha looked at the sign and then at James. He was laughing really hard as was everyone else. She looked around embarassed and ran back to the common room.

"That should teach her." said James

Lily slept that night with the biggest smile on her face.
