Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

whenever there is a silence during a conversation i have with my friends, to break it i'll just say a random quote from a movie i haven't seen in about a year.
Also i'll get random songs in my head, and i have no idea how.
I just can't concentrate during silence, i find it distrasting, seriously i have so much going in my head that silence will allow me to access my thoughts and i will be off in my own world for about 5 minutes before realizing.
I have plenty more but i can't think of them now.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

I have to chew things equally on both sides of my mouth. It unnerves me to sleep with the door open. I am obsessively organized about my schoolwork and about my job, but I am an absolute wreck at home. My apartment is wildly messy, and it drives me crazy. I love feeling the texture of things, especially the inside of really worn-in shoes. The itunes song count makes me nervous, and I hate when people look at how often I listen to songs. I can't spell out loud, so somtimes I have to fingerspell (using ASL signs) words while I'm dictating spelling.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

People think that because I read a lot that I must be really smart...but I'm not. At all. I'm not stupid...I'd say I'm very average when it comes to intelligence...but I'm riding the short bus when it comes to common sense. I have more duh moments than anyone would believe.

One time, right after my little sis failed her driver's test...my family was trying to cheer her up. It was my parents, aunt, uncle, and me in the room, all talking about our driving test experiences, when my dad says, "Don't even feel bad. My step-brother failed his test 7 times before he got it, and that was just the written part!" Everyone else in the room was amazed at that fact...but not me. I was more preoccupied with another thought, which I blurted out right then..."You have a step-brother?!?" Yeah...It happens to me all the time. I have many more stories like that, but this was the least embarassing.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

I never stand close to my bed for more than a few seconds. It's because of my belief that a group of invisible evil gorilla monsters that can't be seen in daylight or if they're being searched for, live under my bed (this was when I was younger). I always fear something reaching out from under the bed and grabbing my ankles. I had a dream when I was younger that I was eating a Pot Noodle on the top bunk of my bunk-bed when I dropped one over the side and a great big hairy hand reached out and grabbed it. I'll just be heading back to my padded cell now...

I've got a friend who finds stroking mushrooms theraputic.

I number the pages of my notebooks; not all of them but I like doing it.

Our computer keyboard sits on an old towel so that it doesn't scratch the desk and I have a habit of pulling the threads out of it and balling them up. It drives my mum crazy when she finds all these little balls of cotton lying all over the computer desk.

I click my fingers and toes - not because I particularly want to, but it feels like I have to, as though they need stretching back into place.

I always doodle on things.

I always get ink on my hands when I've been writing.

If I;m sitting around bored and have anything in my possesion that can be bent, knotted, plaited or in some other way messed in, I will do so.

That's all I can think of for the moment.

I do that too! Within five minutes I could have every tune from, I dunno, the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, to Bob the Builder, Amazing Grace, a few random Phil Collins disney songs, and so on. I often find myself humming tunes when I don't actuallt know what they are.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

I cut my toenails too short, and pluck my eyebrows too thin, and I have this weird habit of sort of rolling my fringe up out of my face and behind my ear which looks really stupid but i do it without thinking.
And when people phone me I start yawning loads, I think it's so that I sound nonchalant but it's not very convincing I don't think.

When I was little I used to think that if I had any body part hanging out over the bed a leprachaun dressed as Santa and his minions would cut off whatever was hanging over. I have no clue where I got that, but I still don't let anything hang over the bed

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

I have to have the light on in a room I go into. If needed, I stretch my arm out as far as I can to reach the light switch in the next room. I still haven't gotten over my fear of the dark.

Whenever I'm at the computer desk sitting on the chair, I have to have at least one of my legs resting on something, either it's my knee or the actual desk itself.

I CANNOT sleep without the blanket covering my feet. I don't care if my head, my chest, my stomach, or my knees are "exposed," I just can't sleep without the blankets covering my feet. I always think something like "the monster that lives under the bed" will drag me by my feet into a world of darkness. That, or someone awful will tickle my feet ferociously, which I hate.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

Before going to sleep I must check that I closed the window and turned off the computer and that there isn't light in my walk in closet. I also have to go to sleep so that the blamket is covering everything else than my face. Too vivid imaginatin and too many horror movies would be my guess why I act that way.

If I am reading I don't smell, I don't hear, I don't see anything else than the book.

When I was really little if we went bowling I'd feed the bowling ball by posting skittles or some other kind of sweets through the holes. I was a very strange child

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

I eat nachos, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. with a fork and knife.

I have a phobia of snakes so I wont watch any movies with snakes or read any books, etc cuz I'm sure the snake is going to come out and bite me. And I wont keep my feet on the floor because of the same reason.

I always seem to lose one sock. I'll fall asleep with both of them on and wake up with one gone and can never find it.

I chew gum while sleeping and wake up still chewing it.

I'm great at higher levels of math such as algebra, but I have to have to add and subtract with my fingers.

I love languages, but I'm scared to speak them in front of native speakers because I'm terrified of making mistakes. (even German, which I am a native speaker of)

I cant watch a movie without falling asleep during it, even at the theatres

For some reason I cant tell time on an analog clock, I have to have a digital one.

I know there is tons others, but that's all I can think of now!

Oh my God I am the same way! Everyone always makes fun of me for it too. My sister just got her son a pet snake for Christmas and I told her I would never visit her house again. She said "Oh well I will take the snake to someone else's house" and I was like not good enough, its the fact that it lives there.

I also always check the toilet before I go, because I saw a Discovery Channel documentary about a snake that got into the pipes and traveled through them, up into people's toilets...*shudder* it gives me nightmares. What a way to be bitten.

You pretty much described me to a tee there. I check the toilet and everything as well. I am actually really glad I read the HP books before seeing the movies becuase I know when to expect scenes with snakes. I have yet to see the scene with Harry in the Chamber of Secrets because of the basilisk and the Nagini scenes.

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

Well, one of my quirks is that when I read, you can't get me out of the book. A bomb will come down, and I won't budge. (Technically, I can't because I'm dead! But you know what I mean ).

And I take a looong time to fall asleep some nights. But once I sleep, not even an earthquake can wake me up.

I love darkness. Not the evil kind, but real darkness. I can't stand the light.

I sometimes like to sit with one leg on the chair, like rickshaw riders.

I can't stand anything being tidy. It just give me the shivers to see tidy, NEAT things. Especially y'know, in neat rows, all facing one direction or whatever. You can't blame me, y'know. Besides having a messy family, I also am an artist/writer. When I write/draw, everything's everywhere. For inspiration OK fine, I can't draw. But I love drawing. OK, next quirkiness before the ground swallows me up.

Er...I'm actually a very shy person in real life. Yeah, no kidding. I prefer..I dunno...writing to speaking I think.

I don't fall asleep but I tend to space out. I don't know why I ever started doing that...

Lately, I've picked up a new quirk -- I wait until my suitemates have left the common room and sometimes even the entire dorm before I'll use the restroom. Maybe it's the lack of a lock that makes me nervous...once, my one suitemate's boyfriend came in to use the toilet (it's in a stall next to the shower) while I was showering. Freaked me out. Another time, my other suitemate came in to do her makeup while I was using the restroom. So, yeah...now I wait...

Re: My my, Aren't We Quirky?

Oh my god, can this thread be changed to "idiosyncratic" or "neurotic"?
- I pace back and forth when I smoke cigarettes
- I take at least 5 minutes in the bathroom just to urinate (no, the urination doesn't take that long)
- As a vegetarian, I ask pizza places to clean their cutters and will not eat anything that had meat atop it.
- I pick at the cuticles and nasty skin around my fingernails incessantly
- I put hand sanitizer on my hands before I feed my cats
- I wash my hands any time saliva has touched my hands (think about this one)
- Will not "poo" in any bathroom but my own. If it is in another bathroom, by emergency, many paper towels and much soap are in order.

Yes! I do the same thing, but it's not the closet, but them getting out into the hallway of my building. Also, right before I leave, I check to see that the oven is off and no "cat accessible" cords are plugged in to the wall (the fellow you see in my sig has a tendency to chew them).

• I have to listen to music 'til i fall asleep.
• Every after (taekwondo) competition, I always look forward to seeing bruises and scars.
• I'm one clean freak. I can't study well or do things well unless the house is spic-and-span.
• I'm not so afraid of blood. I don't care how much blood i see.
• When my crush is around, I really wanna get noticed, but I don't even wanna see them, talk to them, or be around them.
• I wanna be a doctor, but I don't wanna learn anything anymore.
• I'm practicing starvation although I'm very, very thin already.
• I sometimes wanna try how it feels to collapse or pass out. I'm doing everything I could to pass out. I'm even planning to do that during school days where I'm usually stressed out.
• I'm weird. Even though deep inside I want someone to help me, I always act as if I don't need any help at all.
