New characters in Book 7?

WARNING: This is a spoiler free area. For all Deathly Hallows discussion, please head to The Deathly Hallows Forum. Any posts in this thread that are considered to be spoilers shall be deleted by staff. Thank you.

whats the possibility of any new characters in the new book?
I think there will be really less of such characters as harry wont be in hogwarts here. and most of new ones come from new students. maybe except RAB there wont be any. I dont think RAB will be a new character as I think he is either dead or is on eof the known characters
what do u think?

Re: new characters in this book?

Well there was the 2nd person at the Potters the night they were murdered. Then again, we may know them already.

Re: new characters in this book?

I don't think there will be too many new characters. There might be a couple that Harry meets on his jouneys, but not a whole crowd.

this confuses me a bit harrys not going back to hogwarts so why would she introduce the new DADA teacher or is she just saying that there will be one obviously but wont be mentioned in the book?
But like padfootandme said their might be a few new characters that Harry meets on his journeys.

Re: New characters in Book 7?

I think the new DADA teacher will be someone that we have at least heard about. Harry may not return to school for classes (I hope he does) but, he will surely visit Hogwarts for information.

Re: New characters in Book 7?

jk has said that there will me NO new characters in the next book. The new DADA teacher, if there is one, will be a character we have already seen in the books. R.A.B., if a person, is someone we have already heard of in the books. if you want to debate about who is the new DADA teacher, there is already a thread on that.

Re: New characters in Book 7?

I think there will be but not too many...just cuz we've gotten to know all the characters already...if it's the last book JKR probly won't add too many new characters. It might make us dizzy...LOL

How do you know this? Can you point me to the interview or wherever she said this?

I tried looking at QuickQuotes for something about this but couldn't find anything. Thanks. ^_^

i'm going to be totally honest with you: with my own eyes i have not seen this alleged statement. but i have been in numerous threads with fifth, sixth and seventh years and prefects you say that it is common knowledge. so i can hunt down some of those threads and posts and you can hear what they said jk has apparently laid down as law, but as far as i remember i have never had a first hand experience with these claims. (i know that sounds like bad evidence but i swear the people who were posting this were the people who are on the level and know things. it's like they have memorized everything jk has ever said in her life! these were not like little first years that i heard it from!) keep you posted

Posts from The Next DADA Teacher thread. These two posts are circa July 22, 2005. You can find the transcripts of the news conference and interview from this time frame and find the exact quote from JK herself at your leisure:
"Per the press conference, as reported by CBBC Newsround, we won't have any significant new characters in the book. So that means, no new character for DADA. Although it COULD be someone who's been mentioned in passing."
"JKR said in the ITV interview that nobody significant would be introduced in book 7. I took that to mean we'll only hear a passing mention of new people, but nobody in a significant post like DADA that we've not seen from elsewhere."

Oooh, I see what you mean. Thank you for explaining that to me.

I'll have to give that thread a good read tomorrow.

If Harry is not going to go in Hogwarts how will there be an arrival of new student of which we'll be aware coz we see everything mostly from harry's point of view.

just because Harry isn't continuing his schooling at Hogwarts doesn't mean at all that he won't go back to Hogwarts at any point through the next book. After all, Dumbledore's portrait is still at Hogwarts, he has friends there, members of the Order work there. There are plenty of reasons for him to be at Hogwarts again, but when he says he's not 'coming back,' he means as a student, not that he'll never go back.

Therefore, from these two interviews from JK herself, we know that there will be no new characters in Book 7.

Bolding and underlining mine.
Edinburgh "cub reporter" press conference, ITV, 16 July 2005Peter O'Brien for Easons Ireland - Are you going introduce any new characters in the final book?

JK Rowling: There will be some characters who you don't know particularly well, and there may be a couple of new characters, but nobody really major. You know pretty much the cast list by now.
This is not saying there will be absolutely no new characters, merely that their roles are likely to be quite small...and there aren't likely to be many of them.

Just because someone is first year doesn't mean they don't know anything. I find that insulting.

I did not say that first years don't know anything. I was emphasizing that my sources, though not JK, were over a thousand posters who happen to have the ability to immediatly call to mind JK's interviews. I was making a very big statement by saying that JK said there would be no new characters, especially when my source was only fellow posters. Citing fellow posters as support of a fact, vastly undermines the argument you are trying to make. I was simply reinforcing the validity of my claim. Furthermore, why would I insult a class of people, whom I myself belong to? I have just become a fourth year and was a first year until the end of December. I don't like to post a lot, but that doesn't make me stupid.

But it is much better to actually see the true quote and draw your own conclusions. The quote does not say there will be no new characters.

Here's the one about the DADA position for Book 7 (underlining mine).
Edinburgh "cub reporter" press conference, ITV, 16 July 2005Cara McKenzie for Radio Forth - Every year since Harry has been to Hogwarts the defence against the dark arts teacher has left Hogwarts or died every year. Does that mean that something will stop Snape from being the defence against the dark arts in book 7?

JK Rowling: Yes. I really can't say more than that. That is because one of those questions that is a very good question and everyone would like to know the answer but it gives a lot away. There must obviously be a new one.
And from Rowling's website (though not entirely relevant)--
JKRwebsite, Rumours
Lupin will come back as DADA teacher
Alas, no. Lupin's exposure as a werewolf did irreparable damage to his prospects for a career in teaching, and with the likes of Fenrir Greyback out there, werewolves are unlikely to receive a good press any time soon.

I won't repost the previous, most relevant quote as it is only a few posts above this one...

well a new dada teacher does not mean the character will be new. it just means that it wont be the person that it was the previous year.
