Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

Okay, for anyone who knows, in the British movie of PS/SS, do they call the stone the SS or the PS? If PS, for the US version, did they just do voice overs every time PS was said or did they film scenes multiple times for each version? Thanks!

In the British movie it is "The Philosopher's Stone". Sorry, but I don't know how they changed it for the US version. I would imagine the scene would have been re-shot using SS in place of PS. They would have had to record the voices for dubbing anyway, so why not just re-shoot the necessary lines.

Yes, the scenes were reshot.

So if I get a British copy, those scenes would be slightly different, besides the lines then?

And another question, who is that larger African-Brit who is first seen in PoA and makes the comment that catching Sirius Black is like catching smoke with your bare hands? Thanks

The actor is named Ekow Quartey, and is credited in the film as "Boy 1", also known as Bem. He's depicted as one of the other third years, though no other mention has ever been made of him, and he was given more lines than several of the other characters- Dean and Ginny, fro example. He was also seen in the Defence Against the Dark Arts class and the Divination class.

Hope I helped.

Okay, thanks. So he is basically another Nigel?

As far as I know, they'd only reshoot the kids saying 'the Sorcerer's Stone' instead of 'the Philospher's Stone', so the scene would probably still be the same.

Re: Most complete version of the Harry Potter Movies?

Greetings:

I expect other even sharper-eyed movie viewers than I have noticed that "new" scenes appear on ABC's broadcasts that were not included on the DVDs (my non-Blu-ray DVDs were purchased as soon as they became available).

I wonder if anyone has looked into this and determined which is the most complete version of each film. Many films are on DVD as the "Director's Cut" presumably containing formerly deleted scenes, but I can recall no ads for such in the Potter series. Do the Blu-ray versions contain deleted scenes, for example?

Thanks for any help.

These scenes are on the 2 disk editions as a featurette on the second disk as deleted scenes. As of now, there has never been an announcement of a 'director's cut' being released

Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

I was watching GoF earlier. Can someone explain to me the necessity of the arm showing thing in the end, where Bary wants to see Harry's arm. That makes no sense to me at all.

Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

I think it might have been because Barty Crouch Jr. knew if Harry had been cut, Voldemort had used his blood and come back to life. It's just a guess, this scene has always confused me as well.

Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

I looked at my high definition version of the film and I read it as "Deobus Beruer".
EDIT: I googled those words and "Deobus" seems to be some kind of explosive and "Bereur" appears to be a name of irish origin.

Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

My one issue with the films, and I'd be glad if someone addressed this:

They omit small details from the book that really will make it hard for them to adapt the final film without rushing. They have never properly explained the Fidelius Charm, and many backstories are simplified. I'm also sad that they left out Scrimgeor, although there's a rumor online that he's actually included and Bill Nighy asked to remain uncredited to surprise the fans.

I've also heard that they leave out any mention of what happens to Fudge. This gradually removes the realism of the world and makes me think why they leave out all of this and then include too much humor that adds nothing. They could have certainly added more backbone. I was really looking forward to Scrimgeor. I wonder how they will ensure that they receive the items from Dumbledore's will. It's kinda sad that they left out Nearly Headless Nick, too. They introduce so many characters, like Percy, and then toss them out.

That scene where Nick was talking about death with Harry was so touching. Oh, well. That's Warner for ya.

Re: Questions about the Harry Potter Movies

I think that's an issue a lot of people have to be honest, we love the books, that's why were're here and as relative purists where the books are concerned, having them made into a movie doesn't necessarily match what we think of as important. I'm sure WB will do as much justice to the books as they can to make as good a movie as possible We all know that not every single detail can be put into the movie - so maybe it might make people read the books more again.

I doubt that was a personal affectation that Tennant chose. Rather, for the purposes of the movies-only people we needed a visual way for both them and Barty Crouch, Sr. to recognize that the false Moody was false and he was really Barty Crouch, Sr. After the second task, we see false-Moody confront Crouch, Sr. and he has not had his polyjuice for nearly an hour, so the first trait that returns of Crouch, Jr. is the tongue-flicking thing. Crouch, Sr. realizes that the only person he has even known to do that is his Death-Eater son (who is supposed to be in prison still according to the movie), and Junior sees the recognition in Senior's face. That forces him to iill his father, and is the primary clue to the movie audience that Moody is not the real Moody.

So it comes down to that they needed a mannerism that would betray the ruse, and tongue-flicking was chose, probably because it is so snakelike, perfect for a Voldy-worshipper.
