I know. I hope that soon enough they come out with something that's like an OoS or Absolution twin. That would make up for TR and BHaR not being the best albums.

Re: Muse

I don't want an OoS/Absolution twin record, but I fell in love with Muse because of
a) their originality
b) the incorporation of classical piano in modern alternative rock
and both of those things took a back seat in the past two albums IMO.

Re: Muse

Muse is a good band, with talented musicians, originality, and connection with the public. They have a problem though, and that's the main reason I don't listen to them, and they don't end up in my CD collection: the singer...Matt Bellamy.... He needs to learn how to breathe properly while singing. I dislike to hear so loudly his air intake every time he start singing a verse or anything...I feel like I am listening to a person with emphysema...it becomes very annoying to me, and that's why I don't listen to them...So, it's not that I dislike the music...the music is good...it's just that breathing sound of Mr. Bellamy. I wonder why they don't mix the music as to suppress it.

Re: Muse

^ I've wondered that too. It's an easy thing to edit out. I guess I'm just used to it but when I don't listen to Muse for a while and then I go back and listen to OoS it does bug me.

Re: Muse

I think I've noticed the whole breathing problem in Plug In Baby. For some reason, that's the song that I've noticed it before in...

Anyways, I've decided to rearrange my list of favorite Muse songs:

1. Time Is Running Out
2. Hyper Music
3. Plug In Baby
4. Hysteria
5. New Born

Notice they're all from OoS or Absolution...

Re: Muse

For me his breathing is most annoying in New Born, but it's such a beautiful song I usually forget about it.

We share many favourite songs I'd swap TIRO for Micro Cuts and Hyper Music for Butterflies and Hurricanes (or maybe Dead Star) though

Oh yeah, in New Born I've heard it too.

TIRO is just one of my all time favorite Muse songs, but I don't know why. Any for some reason I just really love Hyper Music!

Re: Muse

Oh I like both those songs too but Micro Cuts will always have a special place in my heart (it's also my msn address ).

Does anyone have a favourite music video? Mine's probably Bliss, not least of all because Matt has red hair Knights of Cydonia is pretty great too

Re: Muse

My top 3

1. New Born
2. Time is running out
3. Supermassive blackhole

I was really stuck between this last one and falling away with you, but the guitar in supermassive blackhole gives me goosebumps - I just think the singing part is a small failure.

Re: Muse

As far as I can remember nobody on here has commented saying they've been to a show since The Resistance came out, so I thought I'd give a rundown of the show I went to tonight.

Muse are currently headlining the Big Day Out in Australia/NZ and tonight was my town's show. At this point, I'd like to point out that Muse are the only good thing on this year's line-up (well, besides Rise Against and Mastodon)...Anywho here is a list of the songs they played in no particular order:
Uprising, Supermassive Black Hole, Time Is Running Out, Hysteria, Starlight, Apocalypse Please, Stockholm Syndrome, Undisclosed Desires, The Resistance, Plug In Baby, Fury (plus a couple of new fillers), Unnatural Selection and as an encore: Back In Black (AC/DC cover) with the singer from Jet, Knights of Cydonia.

I'm not great at explaining things, so I drew this:
Stage:

Ok A, B, 1, 2, 3 are all giant screens. A and B were mostly showing real time footage of the show which looked great. 1, 2 and 3 were mostly special effects, images etc. Both very effective and looked marvelous.
Every time I see Muse Matt has a new and exciting outfit. This time it was light grean leather pants and a black blaser with sequens on the cuffs, tail and collar. It was breathtaking lol. The whole show was. I really liked the green lasers. When they reflected off the smoke from the smoke machines it created an awesome texture I haven't seen at a show before.
Laser:

Not the best picture (taken on my camera phone at night) but you get the idea.

Not sure there's much else to say except that this was the 6th time I've seen Muse live and they are yet to disappoint. I think this show gave me a new found appreciation for their latest album (which I still think is their weakest, but being Muse it's a pretty high standard). Fantastic show. Back In Black went OFF (AC/DC in Australia generally does)! It was so much fun. I'm also glad they're still playing old songs. I doubt anything from Showbiz will make it back into regular rotation but it's still good

So I was just perusing the uploaded remixes on Muselive, and I found a remixed Undisclosed Desires (called "Please Me") done in an acoustic/orchestral style, and it's actually quite good, especially considering I'm not such a big fan of the original. :P If anyone's interested, and has a Muselive account, it's on the first page of the Covers & Remixes section of the forum.

Aside from that... I'm seeing them in March! I'm extremely excited.

I think I found what you're talking too and I really like it too (better than the original )

Oh and the other night they also played United States of Eurasia.

Re: Muse

I recently got into Muse -- randomly found a couple of songs on my iPod (so much on there, even I forget what I have..) and didn't click off until I was well and truly hooked. Favourite songs are probably 'Time is Running Out', and lately -- 'Uprising'. Had that blasting in the office at work today. Much love for Muse.

Re: Muse

I saw them on Monday in Toronto... wow. The set was awesome. We were all staring at the three pillars wondering where they were going to appear from. At first I was afraid they'd stay on the pillars the whole show and not be able to move around, but I guess that was silly as Matt was obviously going to play piano at some point. Anyways, the intro with We Are The Universe was really cool.

I like to avoid checking out the setlist before a show so that I remain surprised. I was definitely surprised; I was sad they didn't play Take A Bow because I loved it as the show opener last tour, but everything else was great. Even Undisclosed Desires and Guiding Light were great, especially the latter (I find GL boring, but it was pretty good live). UD had a nice light show too. I really liked the green lasers.

I think the really fun live songs from the new album were USoE, Resistance, and Unnatural Selection, though none were as fun as older songs. I started really appreciating BH&R during the show; MotP, SBH, KoC, wonderful live songs. I really miss Invincible and Hoodoo live, too. I think I was most excited during Hysteria though. The second I saw Chris step forward to the edge of the stage, I felt the adrenaline rush. And of course, Plug in Baby is the best to jump around to.

When they started playing Exogenesis (Overture), I nearly cried. I wasn't expecting it at all. Pretty much made my week.

And they played a bit of YYZ by Rush, which wasn't on the setlist, just a fun little piece for Toronto.

Overall, amazingly good time. My day started out badly, so I was in a pretty bad mood before the show, but it did a 180 the second the lights went down.

Re: Muse

So I saw them live last weekend. Here are some of the songs I remember they played (in no order, obviously):
  • Uprising (opening)
  • New Born
  • Hysteria
  • United States of Eurasia
  • Bliss
  • Stockholm Syndrome
  • Starlight
  • Plug In Baby
  • Time Is Running Out
  • Unnatural Selection
  • Exogenesis: Symphony Part I
  • Supermassive Blackhole
  • Knights of Cydonia (closing)

Is it bad that I'm really happy they didn't play Guiding Light or MK Ultra? I know they're supposed to be really good live, but I'd take this setlist over those two songs any day, especially since they played Plug In Baby!

I think I went crazy when they played Hysteria, New Born, Stockholm Syndrome, and Bliss. Every time I got so giddy when I realized what song they were playing. And right before Bliss, Matt said "This one's for you, LA."

That concert confirmed all the rage about how amazing Muse is live. One of my favorite parts was when they played an eight-minute long outtro to Stockholm Syndrome; that alone was probably responsible for my sore throat and neck. What an amazing band!

This sounds extremely awesome. I'm seeing them live in December. Can't wait.

You know what would be amazing? An Origin of Symmetry album tour The more OoS the better so no I don't think that's bad at all.

Muse are an astounding live band and one of the few who haven't just given up thank to their fame (like The Killers stopped being so impressive live once their second album came out IMO). I think the old songs are still their best (Only ever listen to the first three, the last two are pretty average IMO) but it's hard to deny they're awesome live. Glad you had a good time

Re: Muse

Have you guys heard the maybe-news that their next album will be toned down and less bombastic and grandiose than their usual? Apparently they want to play smaller venues, have more intimate shows. I'm not sure if that fits my understanding of Muse.

I guess it could be very interesting. I'm glad Matt's looking in new directions as usual, and not settling. I mean, Muse have a somewhat distinct style, but they still vary a lot.
