Well hang on there is still just one more little discussion. Which Dumbledore died on top of the tower, Aberforth or Albus. Jo said Dumbledore's family was a profitable line of enquiry but we had nothing to enquire about if she was talking about Aberforth, unless Aberforth was playing a bigger role in HBP than we realised.

Only kidding by the way. I did so well to. I managed nearly a whole day with out posting in this thread and then saw the Dumbledore is probably dead comment and nearly died.

Hey Tane, you never know! Maybe that look of hatred and revulsion on Snape's face was just cuz he hates the smell of goats!

i think he's alive, like Gandalf in Lord of the Rings, he died in the first movie, but he wasn't really dead..and he came back in the second movie

Give Tolkein credit, they're books, not movies. Just like HP, books came first. And Jo distinctly said, "Don't expect Dumbledore to pull a Gandalf..."

Well Snape was repulsed and this actually gets around the Gandalf problem too and he probably hated Aberforth for kicking out of the pub. Snape probably got tortured for only get a bit of the prophecy.

No, no, no not going any futher no I have done so well to resist this.

I accept that Dumbledore is dead and bow to Jo's wonderful work as no book has had me in tears for nearly 70 pages.

Cave, I cried.
Out of cave, felt he is going to live.
Hogwarts tower, no he is going to die.
Snape AK'ed no not Dumbledore.
Denial.
Heads office, oh no he is dead the portrait, cried even more and whaled.
Threw book and cursed Snape.
Got the funeral and cried again.
Got to Nitwit moment and giggled and cried at the same time.
Then started to want to know more about Albus.

That was me and how I went through the last 70 pages. What a roller coaster ride for my emotions.

Re: Is Dumbledore Dead or Alive? v.10

Here is what I'm thinking at the moment:

Dumbledore isn't really dead, and Snape didn't kill him. I think it was all a setup to look like he died. I mean, why else would Dumbledore put that spell on Harry like that when Harry could have helped to save him -- especially when Harry is considered one of the most powerful wizards. It is possible, since you can cast a spell by thinking it, to cast one spell by thought while saying the name of another spell, simply to disguise what you were doing. So Snape could have cast a different spell, one that looked like the death curse, while saying avada kedavra to make it look like he killed Dumbledore. Afterall, it doesn't say that anyone necessarily saw Dumbledore's body. It just said that a body was wrapped up in a sheet, which doesn't mean it's Dumbledore's. Snape could really be the good guy that Dumbledore thought he was, but just went along with this to help out later on...with what, I don't know. We'll just have to see when book 7 comes out. I think it is just too easy for Snape to end up being a bad guy like that after Harry and everyone else is always saying how he's still bad, even if Dumbledore always said he trusted Snape. There has to be some sort of a twist with that.

Again, this is just my take on it. I modify it every now and then, though. LOL! I'm sad.

ETA: I also wanted to say that while Dumbledore was begging Snape, it could have been to go through with the plan, i.e. making it look like Snape was going to kill Dumbledore, instead of begging for his life. I don't think it was a cry for mercy, but a cry for Snape to do his job.

OK, Tane, show me the proof it was Aberforth, then I will say the thread should stay open.

If there isn't any, I will continue with my plea to close this thread.

Thanks for the welcome!

Now, I have another theory. The Dumbledore at the end of the 6th book could not have been the real Dumbledore. It could have been someone else who drank polyjuice potion, and was appearing as Dumbledore.

I don't remember J.K. Rowling saying that Dumbledore was definitely dead. I think there is too much foreshadowing throughout the book for him to truly be dead. However, I've been known to be wrong in my day, lol, so I could always be eating my words when the next book comes out.

The theory I posted before, and this one, or maybe even a combo of both are what I believe.

Mugglenet-Don't expect Dumbledore to pull a Gandalf.
- Dumbledore IS really dead. "Everyone needs to move through the five stages of grief" and get past his death. She also apologizes to DumbledoreIsNotDead.com for ruining the purpose of their site.

Re: Is Dumbledore Dead or Alive? v.10

Well, as I said, what if it was someone posing as Dumbledore...by taking the polyjuice potion...or as I saw someone else suggest--it could have been Albus's brother.

Now, I know that once a character is dead, they're dead, but a friend suggested this, and it does make sense:

It is also possible since Dumbledore's patronous is a phoenix that he did die but could be reborn in some way. After Hagrid lays Dumbledore wrapped in the purple cloth on the table and the man finishes speaking, there is a blinding white flame and for a split second Harry thinks he sees a phoenix fly out of the flames. Could be him. The only puzzling thing is that he does have a portrait now hanging in the office and Rowling never indicated whether there are dead headmasters on the walls in the Headmasters Office or just retired ones...at least, I don't think she did.

Jo said Dumbledore is definitely dead and will not be coming back on August 2 at NYC's Radio City Music Hall.

I have only got that feeling since Jo made that quote, because of the fact that this thread is still open.

Re: Is Dumbledore Dead or Alive? v.10

...and it soooo needs to close!

I've been biting my tongue for a few days now, and since the thread is still here, I'm going to ask the question I've been dying to.

In all seriousness, those who still, even after Ms. Rowling's announcement, do not believe Dumbledore to be dead...what will it take to accept it? What final piece of evidence are you seeking that will make you believe her? By her, I mean, JK Rowling, author, creator and supreme Goddess of all things Harry Potter?

I'm intrigued.

I believe Dumbledore is dead because JK Rowling mentioned it in an interview and i believe she really did kill him. I can't believe she would actually be willing to kill this character but it appears to be true.

Snape knew Sirius was innocent and still let him rot in Azkaban - another reason to hate him.
