TMQ96 -- Britannin

Discussion of The Magic Quill #96 -- Britannin by Robbie Fischer.

+++ THIS WEEK’S DOUBLE CHALLENGE! +++

Because #99 will be a “Who’s Who” edition of the Magic Quill, and #100 will be a “What’s What” retrospective of the chapters since #50, this will be the last “Double Challenge” before the Magic Quill turns 100.

SURVEY: More than any other character in the Magic Quill, which one: (A) Rocks your world? (B) Leaves you completely cold? (C) Would you like to know more about? (Hint: you can choose a different person for each part.)

CONTEST: Describe a really stupid magical blunder – and, if possible, the counterspell to fix it.

I don't know about the survey but a really stupid magical blunder would be tickling a sleeping dragan, as for the counterspell-well no spell can bring back the dead.

Draco Dormien Titalantis Nunquam---or somethin like that

I still haven't thought of anything for the stupid magical blunder but I just love the answer Shadow Phoenix gave: starting a magical fire and then throwing your wand in for fuel! Brilliant! Way to go!

Re: TMQ96 -- Britannin

A. Spanky
B. Aunt/Uncle Leslie
C. Harvey or Tattoo man

A magical blunder... well i think its really stupid to place a Disillusional Charm on your Invisibility Cloak.... its like painting black on black paper. Well the result depends if you had placed the charm on the cloak you would have a hard time finding it... if you had placed it on yourself that's just a waste of energy. So if there is really a muddled up person who have cast a Disillusional Charm on the Cloak and forget where he had placed it, the only way i can think of now is to use an accio charm.

Re: TMQ96 -- Britannin

Angela and Sorwyn submitted a joint answer through the Feedback System:

We apologize for the length of the description; Angela had too much soda and Sorwyn forgot to hide the ice cream.

Sparkly Poo: By accidentally mispronouncing Sectumsempra, a pile of chocolate-scented cottonballs covered in iridescent fairydust lands on the caster's head. The caster's hair (or head, if bald) will turn vibrant shades of pink, lavender, blue, and black.

Counterspell: Mispronounce Wingardium Leviosa and the cotton balls will spontaneously combust, burning the caster's hair off in the process. It will take about a week for the hair to grow back. If bald, the caster's head will have scorch marks that won't fade away for about three years.

Re: TMQ96 -- Britannin

It's pretty hard for me to do the survey because I'm still new to reading the series and am still learning all of the characters, so I guess honesty would be saying that all characters are a C for me.

For the contest: I think adding an ingredient to a potion, fogetting it was added, then adding it again only not realizing until after the potion had been drunk. Example: a double dose of frogspawn results in uncontrollable croaking, the remedy of which is to lick the back of a toad one-hundred times.

Re: TMQ96 -- Britannin

How about putting all the ingredients into the cauldron but forget the water! What a gooey mess! By the time the witch/wizard has figured out what the problem is there are ashwinders gliding all over the place laying eggs so the witch/wizard in question now has to run all over the place to put freezing spells on all the eggs. Although the cauldron is ruined along with the potion, the witch/wizard now has a fortune in ashwinder eggs.

Re: TMQ96 -- Britannin

Kat submitted this contest entry which was, alas, too late...

CONTEST: Describe a really stupid magical blunder and, if possible, the counterspell to fix it.

Dagnabit, I thought this up when I read the latest MQ, then I almost forgot to send. Hope I'm not too late...

The stupid magic blunder is an odd little spell called Reversus Incantatem. Over the centuries many wizards have tried to cast this spell, thinking it would cause their enemies' spells to backfire on them. But through a quirk of magic that's not yet fully understood by the Dept. of Mysteries, Reversus Incantatem is the only known spell that always backfires on those who try to cast it, reversing every spell they cast from then on.
The counterspell is also counterintuitive: To undo the damage, the self-afflicted witch or wizard must cast this same spell again - on themselves. It's rather obvious, after the fact, that the spell never does anything to anyone else, but it was centuries before anyone dared to try the u! nobvious solution of casting it on themselves. But since the spell always backfires on the caster, this reverses the backfire of their previous attempt at casting the spell.

Kat
