Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter v.2

As an actor he's great! He strives to learn more in each film, however, he isn't my Harry.

There's something about him as Harry that completely befuddles me. First of all there's the appearance. What happened to the jet black hair and green eyes? Right, I know he can't wear the coloured contacts as they reacted badly with his eyes but there's still the hair!

With his acting I feel that sometimes he is a bit awkward as Harry. Maybe it's the script or director that isn't letting him act in the same way as book Harry does. I'm not sure.

However, I think he has improved so much since PS, and is proving himself to have a lot more talent in the future.

Yeah I completely agree! That was the scene I was most happy with in OotP! He was amazing in that scene

Hey, guess what? It's the list again! lol, now OotP has been released I thought I'd check the thread again and see if Daniel popularity had grown or lessened.

I have to say, there were quite a few people I wasnt sure where to put, so many complaints about his hair and other silly stuff like that, and not one mention of his acting abilities. So I hope everyone's in the right category (there were some people that I simply didn't include, I just had no idea were to put them)


Ok, so this is what I took into account to decide who should go in which category:
Positive: People who used phrases like “I love him”, “he an awesome actor”, “Dan’s the perfect Harry”, etc. referring to Daniel’s performance throughout all the movies, or at least during OotP, in other words, ppl who have always liked him, or that didn’t like him before but now do. Some of these might consider that Daniel still needs to improve (a lot of comments about a certain “crying scene” were made), but are very happy with his work so far

Negative: People who used phrases like “I don’t like him”, “how did he get the part?”, “he should be re-casted”, etc. referring to Daniel’s performance throughout all the movies, or at least during OotP, in other words, ppl who have always disliked him, or used to like him, but don’t anymore

In between: These consider that Daniel still needs to improve, but didn’t use any phrases like the ones mentioned above (these used phrases more like “he’s ok…”, “he’s alright”, etc.)

Okay could I to be added to your list?

Now I don't mind Daniel as far as it has been five films and now if he was re-cast it would be strange. I have got used to Daniel being Harry.

My problem is I shouldn't have to 'get used to' an actor through five films. If not in PS, I should've been able to see him sit right as Harry by CoS and definitely by PoA.

I agree that he has improved in his acting and from interviews I can tell he really wants to learn and improve with every film; he is also grateful for the oppurtunities JKR gives him. All that is great and I respect him for that. Yet, I find that sometimes I cringe just at the sound of his voice, or a facial expression he pulls and that he can appear quite wooden in parts. Even so, the boy has nailed anger and that is a good thing as the next two films have a lot of moody, angry Harry to play with. (Or at least they should have that Harry present).

So maybe I'm slightly mixed as I can't imagine another now in the role of Harry and there is improvement; but on my negative, I still think maybe someone else could've been cast in the first place.

So from this I think I may be made number 35 in the Negative catagory, right?

Could they? Thousands of prospective Harry's were interviewed, but they really only wanted Daniel.
Be that as it may, we are now seven years down the line, I think that you may need to move on - or wait for when they do the next series of Harry Potter films in **years time.

It's astounding, the way he's come on since PoA. I largely blame Chris Columbus for wasting the boy in the first two films, but since the director switch, he's been really good in the films that followed. I remember being particularly moved by the graveyard scene in GoF, he was heartbreaking there- and the entire sequence at the Department of Mysteries would have had me giving him a one-person standing ovation, he was that good. Mind you, that can't have been an easy scene to do, and I;m really glad he's sticking on for the final two.

'Move on'? I think you consider my post to be contempt for Daniel which I've accumulated over the years. How far wrong that opinion would be. I usually compare film to book before saying anything about the actors; especially now that it has been 5 films.
What I meant is that a couple of times I've felt the image was most important. Obviously they rigourously interviewed many, but that still doesn't mean he's going to be the Harry for everyone. It may be that if they re-make I find that Harry better; I may even find that I appreciate Daniel's portrayal more if that happens.

For I also said I thought Daniel had improved, and that I'd got to used to him. Even that I couldn't imagine another in his place. Of course, I'm curious to whether another boy could be the someone who clicks with my image of Harry, but I am happy right now to say that he does a good job; as his many fans will agree to.

I thought Daniel Radcliffe plays Harry Potter wonderfully, his image was right on the nose from when I imagined him in PS.

I posted a good while back on how I thought Daniel was improving with each movie and after seeing OotP I can safely say he's come on tenfold. He seriously impressed me. He's not the Harry in my head but that doesnt matter he never will be, Ithink everyones Harry is different.

I look forward to the next two movies if he keeps it up at this rate, which I reckon he will, he seems keen on honing his craft as an actor. I reckon that scene in the Forest in DH could be really something too!

i think that daniel radcliffe fits the role of harry potter better than anyone else could and i have really grown to like how he captures the role and i cant imagine anyone else who could potray the part plus i think that he is a hottie!

I agree with cupsoftea up there, there are scenes in Deathly Hallows that make electrifying reading but sad as I might be that this is the end, I'm actually looking forward to watching Dan play them out.

i was really impressed by his performance in ootp. he finally convinced me he was worthy of harry! sure he had a few awkward moments, but generally he was pretty good. a LOT better than he was in the previous movies. hooray for him!

Whoever said the possesion scene made them cringe... it made me cringe too, but not because of the way he played it... more because of the somewhat cheesy script.

Couldn't agree more. Dan's a serious actor, and I believe a lot of people don't give him enough credit for his work in the HP movies. Harry is a complex character to portray, and Dan gets it right. While I think you're right that the director could have challenged the kids a bit more in the 2nd film, they did well, don't you think? And I actually love the trio's performances in the 1st film.

They did well all right, it's to their credit that they managed it- but I do think a different director could have avoided cringe-making bits like "there's no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid". They were good, but patchy- and now Dan's been consistently amazing in the last three, a pat on the back to him.
