i dont think it was foreshadowing becuase dumbledore never does entrust hagrid with his life, even though he said he would if he had to.

the fawkes theory does sound plausible though.

We know that one of the first things Harry is doing is go the #4. So he should get the letter early in the book. Not that they will necessarily put 2 and 2 together. That is my theory.

Honestly, I think that is one of the stupidest things. If Dumbledore had a Horcrux, that would pretty much kill the entire series. Oh, wait, nevermind. Each of the books has a Horcrux... Including book 7. Oh, wait a minute! 7?!?!? Wow. That must be significant. Let's speculate on that.

Well, the thing it foreshadows is Dumbledore's death, if you ask me.

When Dumbledore died, Hagrid placed his body inside the white tomb.

I think that Hagrid is certainly a help to Harry but he is no Chekhov's gun.

Chechov said something to playwrights along the lines of "if a gun appears on the wall in act 1, you better use it by act 3." Someone cleverer than I will no doubt give the exact quote.

Getting ready for work (ridiculously early) this morning, I think I disproved my own hx=under black lake theory.

Dumbledore would know there was a founders possesion under there, thus suspected it as a hx, so would have checked it.

i sicerely hope sirius, tonks,or lupin gets the reprieve to live.i believe that ,maybe sirius didnt die,he simply fell beyond the veil, and if harry does in fact go there and find a way to go beyond the veil, that would be cool.

I think it will be Sirius. I think he will have to come back from the veil. I think the images from the brains will provide some information that may lead to a horcrux, thus a possible rendevoux (sorry, spelling) with the veil. Perhaps Hagrid will hold some info on this, although I am inclined to think not. But, perhaps.

Re: Was it foreshadowing when Dumbledore said "I would trust Hagrid with my life."?

JKR did indeed say Dumbledore was dead...she just didn't say Albus. Hagrid is not only the groundskeeper, but he is the Keeper of the Keys, which nothing has been said about.

Another thing. In OOP Fawkes appeared and took a hit from Voldemort to protect Dumbledore. Where was Fawkes that night on the astronomy tower? They are connected...why wasn't Fawkes there?

I would trust Hagrid with my life...not his death. If Dumbledore wanted to make sure his presence was always felt at Hogwarts, and he had been injured earlier on - either because he had been portaying Snape when he had to take the Unbreakable Vow to kill himself, or because of the destruction of the ring's Horcrux...he'd want someone to cover for him. He may have asked his brother to take polyjuice so that no one would realize how really frail he was. Hagrid could be nursing him back to health.

Was it foreshadowing? Yes. After re-reading PS/SS, I'm convinced that most of the answers are there, if not all.

If Voldemort knew Dumbledore was badly injured, he might make an attempt to get into Hogwarts immediately. Also it's important for the teachers and students to feel his presence there.

Ok I think that one of the Hallows is Godrics' Hallo, which Hagrid retrieved Hagrid from the night his parents were murdered. I still think Hagrid is going to provide important info.

I really believe JKR when she says Dumbledore is dead, but there are many ways to communicate with the dead so DD can still have an influence on Harry's decisions.

DD saying he would trust Hagrid with his life is just giving us a platform to establish that Hagrid is indeed a genuinely good character, and that we cannot believe any decision that he makes or deed he does is for an evil purpose - I think that something that Hagrid does may come across as evil or wrong but in fact is being done for the greater good.

Ok i feel as if someone is reading my thoughts here... I have read and re-read all the Harry Potter books a hundred times.and i also have come to think that Albus Dumbledore is not dead i think that somehow Fawkes took Albus' place on top of the Astronomy Tower or Albus' brother did. I totally DON'T think that Albus is dead. Hagrid would have took Albus' place, but i DON'T think that Albus would ever let Hagrid take his place. Hagrid is too important to Harry, and if Harry ever found out that Albus LET Hagrid do that Harry would never trust Albus with someone so close to him. Hagrid would die for Albus, but i dont think he did..!

When I first read "I would trust Hagrid with my life", I immediately thought Hagrid would prove to be totally untrustworthy at some point. I'm still not sure about him.

I agree that it was a foundation laid by DD for us. But with all the clues that JKR has left, I believe this was one of the first. It was a big statment to introduce a character with, but far enough in the beginning of the series to be easily forgotton or overlooked with everything else we learn about both DD and Hagrid.

OOooh, wow. This is actually a really facinating theory. When you look at that one sentance... it holds so much weight. It certainly seems forreshadow-y.

Unfortunately, Dumbles is dead. So what remains for Hagrid is leftto be seen. Preserving the mere memory of Dumbledore? Defending the castle, just as its former Headmaster would have? I just hope he doesn't die... :'(

Dumbledore has already trusted Hagrid with retrieving Harry from the rubble and the Dursleys and the SS/PS. Dumbledore also appointed him Keeper of Keys. I think it is either info or an object, or something that will lead to a major clue.

Re: Was it foreshadowing when Dumbledore said "I would trust Hagrid with my life."?

Fact: DUMBLEDORE IS DEAD.
Opinion: I DO NOT think that DD would make a horcux:
A)purely because he does not value his life that much.
B) Horcruxes have a vibe of evil.
C) Dumbledore wouldn't kill somebody so he could have another chnce at life.
D) It's dark magic, DD wouldn't accosiate himself with it.
E) It's an insult to his memory to even suggest that.
F)He relises that even he will die sometime.

And also how dare you, HOW DARE YOU, insult Dumbledore's memory by even thinking that he would make a horcrux.
