Re: House M.D.
I really need to re-watch this from the beginning- I think I have missed too much for it to make much sense

Re: House M.D.
I don't think House would find that very fun.

No, he probably wouldn't since he loves chaos. However, we don't need to stoop to murder for House boxed sets.

Re: House M.D.
Yep and what would the show be like without all that? It would probably be a lot more colorless and bland...

Re: House M.D.
Yeah, it would. I've been seeing previews for the new season, and they look awesome. I can't wait to see it.

Re: House M.D.
I don't know about the previews, but you can read an article about season six of House here. There aren't really any major spoilers, but it's interesting to hear from the creator of the show.

Re: House M.D.
Well I refuse to watch the new ones now, but the new season looks interesting.
Though I got to say this show gets really old kind of fast. If House was not written good, it'd be a annoying show.

Re: House M.D.
Really? Do you mean the cases that they work on? Most medical or procedural shows are like that. For instance, I've been watching a ton of Bones repeats, and their cases are somewhat interesting, but what I'm really interested in are the regular characters and their development. House is the same for me.

Re: House M.D.
I don't think the cases get old for me. I think it's amazing that the writers can come up with so many different scenarios and do it well. That takes talent.

Re: House M.D.
Oh, yes, I definitely agree. The writers on House are fantastic. I just meant that some people might watch the show specifically for the cases, but I tune in to see what's going on with our regular characters. That's the main draw for me.

Re: House M.D.
Yep same here with me too. That's in part what keeps me watching the show... the writers. They're all really good.

Re: House M.D.
Oh, I watch it for both because that's what's so fun about it. You get to see awesome cases and different scenarios for our characters.

Re: House M.D.
Yeah, and it works on both levels. In the first couple of seasons, I just tuned in whenever I was home to see it (that was pre-DVR
). I still liked the show, thought the cases were intriguing, and loved seeing what House would do next. But last season I watched every episode in order ( DVR!) and I saw the show on a whole new level. That's when I became so impresssed with the writers who do such a fantastic job on this show.

Re: House M.D.
Interesting, with me, it's the other way round - I was completely hooked the first three seasons - so hooked I've watched each episode at least three times, and even now, I'm watching season two before bed every day. But season four disappointed me, and season five too - quite apart from cramming four new characters in the same 40 minutes, the show became suddenly too simplified, in the black-and-white way it so elegantly avoided all three previous seasons. Example: season 2, episode 1 - death row guy needs to be saved. It's the "who's worthy of saving/attention/sympathy more" and basically establishing people's worth based on what they did with their lives; and in the end, turns out death row guy had a condition so everyone turns around and Foreman even decides to testify in hs defence. But not House - he still holds him responsible. Turns out he held him responsible all the time - just didn't think this meant he could be left to die because he wasn't worth saving.
Another example - season 2, episode 16 or 17 or 18 (not sure which) - faith healer boy who is revealed to have herpes because of unprotected sex, and to be a scam artist. The whole episode it looks like it's House vs. faith, with faith being ultimately revealed to have been a lie, but in the end, the boy comes to House and apolgizes, and tells him he's lucky to have such certain faith in his life, the faith that what he does is right. And it looks like House won and proved that faith is ridiculous, weak and a scam, until Wilson tells him that "It's possible to believe in something and still fail to live up to it". Which effectively shatters the two-dimensional faith vs. logic debate, because it's never two-dimensional. Another episode from season 2 - the mother who smothered her child to death. We all go, what a horrible person! - but it turns out she had a psychiatric condition. Yet, her husband can't forgive her, and she can't forgive herself. Even though technically it wasn't her fault, the consequences of her actions remain and can't be repaired by consolations with the nature of one's intentions. That's what I love about House the most, that they manage to show both sides of any issue, and give them both credit, thus showing that it's never an either-or situation, and it's never simple. The ability to capture the complexity of reality is, for me, the series' major asset. And I think they lost that in the last two seasons, perhaps not least because they had more characters' personal stories to juggle, and less room for the case and the very intriguing issues springing therefrom.
