His sarcastic, snarky side is definitely priceless, and is, of course, what makes him House in the first place. However, I can remember a few occasions where he was mean just for the sake of being mean, of hurting someone, and that side I'm not so fond of. As with everything else, we have to take the good with the not-so-good, I suppose.

Thats so true. We like to see what we can't be on a regular basis. I so wish at times that I can be as plain and straightforward as he is, but then I can't for obvious reasons.

Well, yes, it's always more acceptable if it comes from a medical genius on whom one's life may depend. I think this is why so many people in his life cut him slack. He's driven, always seeking to solve riddles and finding the truth.

You had me thinking that they do that because he is a genius and not because they, lurves him.

Yea that's me to a tee too. There are times when he's just downright mean. And those are the times when I'm about ready to quit watching the show. But for the most part... I don't mind it. Just as long as that kind of thing (him being mean for the sake of it) doesn't happen all that much.

EW.com is reporting that Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia and The Unusuals) will be joining House for several episodes next season while Olivia Wilde is off shooting a film. Tamblyn will play a med student that House adds to the team even though she's not yet qualified to treat patients.

Thoughts?

Interesting... I wonder how House will treat her for one thing ... and I wonder how she'll be able to help out via case to case wise .

Re: House M.D.

I'm depressed. I was really hoping she'd join Criminal Minds and work with Mantegna and Steeinburgen again. Besides do we need ANOTHER Angel of Mercy on this show? Seriously, she'd make 3 filling in for 13 and Cameron.

You are? Didn't really view it that way... an Angel of Mercy type... good way of putting it. I thought that she's a good actor and would make a decent fit for the time being.

I think she's a good actor, too, but can also see how she'd be a lot like Cameron. Maybe they'll do something against type and make her sort of snarky like House.

Maybe they might . That would certainly be interesting . I wonder how he would like the competition there ...

I think that's why the writers ultimately dismissed Amber from the team--she was too much like House. She was more interesting playing off of Wilson.

Guess you're right there . She was rather snarky at times .

Agreed. The way that they interact is more interesting in terms of the overall plot and the way the show is going.

Re: House M.D.

Yet when they wrote her off, she went from CTB to St. Amber in one episode. Tamblyn has chops, deserves work, and can play snark--but my ultimate nightmare is that she gets a Cameron-lite or Lucy Knight character (wide-eyed, caring, bright, but can't get out of her own way). She deserves more than that.

Re: House M.D.

House doesn't really have a good track record when it comes to interesting female characters, so I'm a bit wary.

Ah...

That wouldn't be good either. They have to balance things out there.

@ Moriath: Noticed that... the track record. That's kind of how I feel there too. It'll be mainly a wait and see thing there.

Re: House M.D.

I love to watch House! His character is so intelligent, and I love the sarcasm that he has.

Re: House M.D.

House marathon on Sleuth today. They showed the pilot--it was interesting to see how much it has changed since then, especially the look of the show. It was so darn dark in the first season. Some parts practically looked like they were in black and white. Wilson looked so young!

What you said!

And, just to nitpick regarding the pilot, I think that they used a color filter which reduced or eliminated every tone except for red/orange. If you look closely, you'll see that the reddish-brown walls, Cameron's hair, and similar sections of warm color remain intact, whereas areas with cool tones, such as the potted plants in the diagnostic room, are all in black-and-white. I can achieve a similar effect with my camera, although I'd never consider using it for any large section of film. I'm glad they dropped the wannabe-edgy look after that one episode, as I find it extremely distracting and it pulls me out of the story to a great extent.

Yes. I noticed that when they were in a sort of shadow, they looked black and white. When they stepped through the door into the sunlit part of the room, you could see their warm skin color and realize that it wasn't in black and white.

It's certainly a very different look from how the show is now. I kept wondering how they could examine their patient in the dark!

I do like that one shot that I think is still in the opening credits--the one where you see House's face through the x-ray of the brain.
