I shall be fascinated to see how Snape is resolved in tDH. Like many I find him a deeply horrible person who is bully at the very least. But I cannot believe he's still a Death Eater - though Dumbledore did say that when he makes mistakes they are big ones.

I don't know that Snape and Lily were necessarily in a romantic relationship, but they were probably either friendly on some level at some point or there was some unrequited love going around. In any case, I think a likely possibility for why Dumbledore trusts Snape so much is that Snape felt incredible, heart-rending remorse regarding Lily's death. Another possibility is that he made an Unbreakable Vow with Dumbledore and that's how Dumbledore's absolutely, 100% positive that Snape's good.
Snape doesn't seem like the kind of guy to work [i]with[i] someone--after all, Slytherins have a reputation for caring about their own welfare before someone else's. I believe that Snape, like many people, was afraid of death when Voldemort returned, but also wanted to do what was right, so he continued work for the Order but also played the double agent role.

I understand why Snape dislikes Harry and Neville, but why does he often mistreat Hermione too ?

A smart guy like him could appreciate her book knowledge.

I think that maybe Hermione remineded him to Lily. I mean, Hermiones was very smart and capable of a lot of things, and she was muggleborn like Lily, one thing Snape didn't really liked (he disliked muggleborns). And she too was good at potions.

I thought maybe he wants to show there is more to magic skills than just being book smart and, well, a nerd.

My take on it was always that he just didn't like Hermione because she liked Harry
He disliked Harry so irrationally he thought everyhting about him was despicable, and so the fact that Hermione is friends with Harry would make him think badly of her. Her smartness would actually make it worse...she should know better
