Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

I only read the last page, but I haven't seen anyone comments about Jack's...last move to save the world.

I am upset about the characters being killed off, but this move on behalf of the story/Jack himself is the key thing making me hesitant about watching another season. That was essentially his only bloodline to carry on and look what happened...it's terrible.

Do you mean?

Spoiler: show
Sacrificing his own grandson to save everyone else?

I hated that too! I couldn't watch it!

Spoiler: show
The look on his daughter's face was heartbreaking when she came in after it was over!

How can he possibly cope emotionally knowing what he did?

Exactly!

I know he supposedly went all mopey and disappeared for awhile, but big whop. It honestly makes me cringe that the writers could do that (although yes it was also amazing in the respect that would take that risk). In the end though it just makes me all nervous about what they aren't capable of...

Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

Looks like Torchwood will be back this year. And as a two-country production. Torchwood: Miracle Day is what is will be called. It will be a full-season, but Davies has said it will feature one story-arc and will not go back to the monster-of-the-week series seen in seasons 1 and 2. Jack, Gwen and Rhys will return and be joined by new CIA operatives. I'm a bit skeptical as to how this sounds, but I'll reserve judgment until I see it. It'll premiere July 1st in both the UK and US, BBC One and Starz respectively (Which conveniently seems to be during the Doctor Who mid-season break).

My faith is restored!
She's actually writing 3 episodes according to Wikipedia.

I say LA because that's where most shows are shot in America. There or New York. Canada gets some business as well, but it's mostly LA.
LA doesn't have a monopolgy anymore. Chicago gets a fair amount of filming. Either way, I don't think Rhys would move out of the country, do you really think that would work? What would be his motivation?

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff...

....I miss David Tennant....

Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

I'm afraid Torchwood is most likely over for me. I loved the show, but the direction it took from the end of the second season onward really disappointed me. I doubt I'll watch any of this new show (it feels more like a spinoff than a new season to me. Brand new location, brand new characters for the most part. . .).

I would be up for all of that if RTD hadn't enjoyed slapping his fanbase in the face quite so much. Torchwood was about a team. RTD killed the team thus Torchwood is done for me. Captain Jack was brilliant on Doctor Who but became a completely different character on Torchwood. I started watching for him but stayed for Tosh and Ianto. I am most certainly not going to watch the Gwen and Jack show.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I feel. Only I hadn't even seen any of Doctor Who when I started watching Torchwood, so it was never a Jack show for me to begin with. I loved the team, and it's not the same without them.

I don't know if I'd mind as much if it'd been a more gradual change of cast over time.

I think that if I enjoy the new season, it'll be as an entirely different show. Not season 4 of Torchwood. Like others have said I watched the show for the Torchwood Team, and theyre gone. Although I don't think it was entirely the fault of RTD that the cast left, didn't Owen and Tosh leave on their own?

As far as I know, they were written out. It was all about RTD's plan to make the show more ~edgy and realistic.

Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

Well, I'm a confessed hater of Torchwood Seasons 1 and 2. Sorry. I only watched because it was Who-related, and Jack is awesome.

But as I loved Children of Earth, I'm quite excited for the new series.

I liked part one of CoE but that's about it. I found the ending atrocious and wholly unsatisfying.

Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

Part one, being the first episode? Or the first half of it?

It's been a few months since I've watched it, but I do remember a weaker second half. But I felt the drama was good all around, and I felt okay at the end.

One of my favorite bits, overall in TW and DW, is when Gwen asks why the Doctor isn't there to help them. Brilliant writing.

Re: Torchwood (contains spoilers)

I liked Day One, but grew less and less pleased as it went on. I kind of liked it initially, but once I thought about it more, I felt there were a lot of flaws.

But I'm also just not a big fan of the direction it took. The first two seasons could be pretty silly at times, but that was a lot of the charm for me. That and the characters. In between the end of season two and COE, most of my favorite characters had died and there was a big shift in narrative style. A lot of people seem to have enjoyed the darkness of COE, but I just didn't (and I usually enjoy dark stories).
