Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Rowling has comfirmed that Fluffy has been released into the forbidden forest. As all dangerous creatures are.
As for the rest... I don't really know what to say. The 'will Harry live, or will he die' conversation drives me nuts. |

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Fluffy has been released into the Forbidden Forest and I think it is more likely that Fluffy was inspired by the mythological Cerberus (three-headed dog guarding the gate to the underworld, was put to sleep) than by a book of Stephen King. Also, Stephen King has written so much books that I wouldn't draw a parallel between an escaped prisoner who seeks vengeange (which is pretty standard and not unlikely to come across once if you write that many books) and Sirius.
By the way, if Voldemort would really handle his big evil plans like that ... I don't know what to do. I hope you are partially joking, actually. And end like that would almost make me cry, I guess. Jo is much more creative than this.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
How do you know if JK Rowling has ever read Stephen King? I never have or sat through a movie made of one of his books so maybe she hasn't either. I found much her stuff has been inspired by the classics and myths and legends - after all that is what she studied at Uni. She is probably quite flattered that he seems to have read her books and has an opinion (like the rest of us) on how it should end or would like it to end.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Indeed. I don't think we can put together the end of book 7 by analysing Stephen King's books. I think all similarities are coincidental (and the Fluffy, Ford Anglia, Trelawney and Sirius sort-of-similarities aren't enough to consider that maybe she will do the entire ending of the series like things he has written. Fluffy was inspired by Cerberus, one of her friends owned a Ford Anglia and it has nothing to do with evilness and immortality, you see prisoners who escape and want to avenge in more books and stories, and Trelawney is some sort of mix of originality, the mytholigical Sybills, the mythological Cassandra and the idea of a Seer, which, forgive me, also appears in plenty of other stories. So, I'm sorry, but I think you guys read too much into this.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Haha! I loved this editorial! I'm assuming that it's a joke, and I find it hilarious. Great job, guys!
EDIT: Hmm . . . Some people apparently don't see that this was a joke, so . . . yeah. I'm pretty sure it is. The whole thing is just incredulous! Lighten up, and read it again with a sense of humor.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
You forgot to mention anything about Arthur Weasley going murdurously insane during a prolonged stay at 12 Grimmauld Place, while Ron discovers he has an unusual talent for divination, and gets his own turn for having visions and hearing strange voices.
Congrats on making it to Wikipedia fame! P.S. I got the joke, although I confess I did catch myself thinking "Wow, I'm really sure JKR got the idea of Fluffy from Cerberus and not Cujo", before I woke up and remembered which column I was reading. Life's been too serious lately.... Anyway, I enjoyed it! |

Anyway, great article! It's amazing what we can find correlations to with Harry Potter. First Nancy Drew, now Stephen King! Go figure! |

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
I said I hoped it was all a joke ... and apparently it seems to be. Gladly
But as I'm not a regular U-bend reader, I didn't know the way these guys write editorials and I thought is was meant seriously. (Which I usually do with editorials )Anyway, glad to hear from other people that they think of it as a joke!

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Too funny! But comic relief is just what we need right now while waiting for the real ending and where JKR wants to take her characters. A fun read, nevertheless.
You guys should get the rest of it together and consider doing a podcast. |

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
you guys missed some things. Would there have been a Hogwarts (the building) without everyone's favorite family vacation spot - the Overlook Hotel? How about "the Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon" and the forbidden forest? Perhaps 'Lisey's Story' is really about McGonnagal now that Dumbledore is dead?
And let's not forget "Weasley is our KING!!!!!" Clearly Stephen King is the Weasley's squib cousin. |

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Nice! I like the idea, but I think Jo is mre thinking aong the lines of mythology; which SK could have borrowed from too.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
I don't read much SK, but I've watched enough movie previews to follow along. A fun editorial as always, guys. I loved Sirius as Andy Dufresne. If the Dementors would just loosen up a bit, I can see Sirius taking over the prison a la Andy.
Thanks for the laugh ... and I'll check out Wikipedia. |

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
Much as I would like to see what the joke was I am currently unable to view the essay. Or any essays for that matter.
Is it the Halloween decor still being up? Even when I tried to get in another way it didn't work. Not even on another computer.

Re: The U-Bend 43 -- The Original King
, guys, another great U-bend! Hilarious! ![]() Y'know, considering that we're told in SS/PS that Hermione's specialty is conjuring portable fires, surely a Firestarter parallel exists as well. You're right, Stephen King IS inextricably linked with the Potterverse! ![]() (Disclaimer for the humor-impaired: this post, and the article on which it comments, are meant to be JOKES. No actual link between the works of JK Rowling and Stephen King is meant to be implied or suggested.)
