TMQ108 - The Final Causeway

Discussion of The Magic Quill #108 -- The Final Causeway by Robbie Fischer.

+++ A MESSAGE FROM ROBBIE +++

In the last few months, demands on my time have increased, while response from readers has dropped off. So the “Challenge” for this time is: Go to the [url=www.mugglenet.com/feedback]Feedback Form[url] and tell me if you think it is worth our while (yours AND mine) to continue “The Magic Quill.” Frankly, when I only hear from a handful of readers on a regular basis, I wonder whether anyone would notice if TMQ quietly went away. So, if you want this column to continue, please shoot me some feedback on it!

Whatever happens, I plan to continue writing reviews for “The Book Trolley.” I don’t plan to end my involvement with MuggleNet. Plus, after nearly 110 chapters, I think everyone who has been involved in writing this column has plenty to be proud of. But the time I spend on “The Magic Quill” comes at a higher cost these days, so I would like to know if it’s still worth it. I hope to hear from you!

I think that around now would be a good place to end it, as long as you don't just end abruptly. Bring an end to Merlin's story. Have some final mention of Spanky's dueling rival. Have the traveling bacward storyline come to an end. Also, there was supposed to be some Merlin/Endora that never happened, and a love triangle involving Sadie. Add a quick shot of that in, and I think it would be ready to end.

i love the stories in TMQ. but i have had a harder and harder time trying to come up with fun and slightly original ideas that could be used in a story and from what i could tell of others so have they. i don't want TMQ to end but if it has to then let it end with a bang.

I am rather sentimental about MQ. I've made friends here. The whole community thing, with everyone putting in, was what got me started writing a fic of my own, and the ideas I've hatched for it have often found their ways into that fic. I will be sad if it is discontinued.
Robbie, I can certainly understand that you may need to slow down, or bow out. You have been doing yeoman's duty on this for a long time, and it's not surprising that your circumstances have changed. If participation has fallen off, and it's not just a seasonal slump, then perhaps the end is near. However, have you considered recruiting an assistant? There must be someone out there that would enjoy being your apprentice.

BTW I'm glad you'll keep up the trolley.It's a wonderful source.

Re: TMQ108 - The Final Causeway

I discovered MuggleNet last February. I´ve folowed TQM through this year and read a lot of old instalments too. This genre is my favorite... so much that I´ve being trying to write fantasy/fiction myself (pretty much since march or april)... and after months of MANY doubts and writing things that have easily found their way... to the the trash... I´m starting to feel better about my writing... and to consider "author" as a career.

Now I know all the work that someone has to do to come up with a book, a story... hours... and hours of being ”alone in a room, making things up”... it´s mentaly and physically exhausting... (It is for me) or at least incredibly time-consuming.

It´s very hard to be doing a number of things at the same time... I should know... bacause I´m in college, studying engeneering...

Please consider seriously Dragonic´s idea....

And we´ll keep reading TBT... and the books rewiewed there!!!!!!!!!!

... an aprentice?... YES!!!!!.... we are dying to know.... who will be HIRED........

Re: TMQ108 - The Final Causeway

hey i know how time consuming is to write brillant stories and a bit tiring too when its just out of passion but you have done wonderfully so far to write over a hundred interesting chapters that keeps at least a few of us coming back for more. well i cannot blame you for getting a bit tired especially when there are a lot of other stuff to do, still if you want to end... do i nicely and not abruptly or, well like what the others said, find a friend/friends to help out with the fortnightly chapters...But whatever you do, Keep up the good work..
