Good Day Everyone,

I'm sorry to say that CoS Forums is going to shut down in the Summer, sometime around July. This isn't an early April Fools joke either.

The Forums have become quite expensive to run and manage. There's a lot (LOT) less traffic coming to the site these days as Harry Potter becomes less of a topical debate for people.

I held on for a while after the last film, wondering whether JK would announce anything surprising, but I find that even if she did it wouldn't serve to help the diminishing numbers on the site or my bank balance!

Myself, I've been absent a lot more in the past year as personal issues have taken over and I've had to work longer hours, to earn more money to keep the forums going as well as pay for things like rent, utilities and god knows what else.

Some of you will be sad and I'm sure others will be happy. I'm not doing this lightly and I could have closed the site last year but held off. I know this may upset some of you who've come to see this place as a haven with friends and I'm very sorry it has to go but I've kept this place going with money out of my own pocket for 10 years now and it's no longer financially viable to do so. Please understand that this is not an easy decision!

Some of you may wish to offer to help, to donate or even take on the site. Whilst I would listen to any suggestions, I will not accept donations as this would be unsustainable in the long-term. If you wanted to take on CoS, be aware that you would need to find $200 per month and to be honest with you all I'm not sure I'm prepared to let the site be taken over by anyone. I've created a thread for comments. The other staff know only as much as the above. There is no Plan B as far as they are concerned, so do not pester them for answers to questions. If they do not know, they are being totally honest.

Many thanks to everyone who for the last 10+ years have worked in one way or another on the site. All the staff, past and present who gave their time and energy to making the community work. Every single person gave their time for free and were never paid for their efforts. It was a labor of love for all.
Many thanks to the members, those who came & went and dared to stay. Every single one of you who contributed to the site, to the discussions and events. You were the ones who made the site what it became, from the all the book releases to the heated, sometimes famous debates about all sorts of topics. You made CoS what it was. So thank you.

When I was playing Hangman I had "H ws" and I striaight away thought of Godrics Hollow, then obviously it panned out to be Hallows; which I suppose could still be a place.

I like the idea of it being class from behind the veil (Sirius lives on :P)

It doesn't really fit with the grammar as it's in plural, deathly hallows, is more than one. If it was a town called Hallows it would be "Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows" or "Harry Potter and Deadly Hallows"

all this talk of halloween is very interesting especially it being the night when the dead walk the earth and contact is possible lets get dereck accorah in! hell be a great help
i just thought though we all assume that it will be coming out this summer but what if it doesnt come out untill halloween i dont think i could wait that long
about the hallow being a place thats what i thought as soon as i read it maybe voldie has like a under ground hq lol or a hollowed out volcano in the shape of his head

Maybe. However -

If the connection is with the veil, then it would make more sense that it is referring to the deadly aspect of being mesmerized or "pulled in" by the veil. We had a glimpse of that in OOTP with Harry, Luna, and apparently Ginny and Neville being mesmerized by the "voices" they heard behind the veil.

I wonder, as it's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it sounds to me like this is an object maybe. Something to get rid of Volde? Thing is , i would never guess what the HBP was until i read it so i think im rubbish at guessing. But if it was about a place it wouldn't be harry potter and the... Anyone else got any idea on what Deathly Hallows is?

What is the big twist, the big revalation jo talked about????? Does it have to do with the gleam of triumph,harrys green eyes,james's invisibility cloak,Aunt Petunia,Snapes loyalty,Dumbledores reason for trusting Snape,Voldemort giving Lily a choice,whatever is in that locked room, the veil,the remaining horcruxes,the two-way mirror,the other person at godrics hollow that night,wormtails life debt,that awful boy,Dumbledore's screams whilst drinking the potion,James's and Lily's jobs,dumbledores family,spouse's of hogwarts staff,Hagrid in knockturn alley,dumbledores boggort and his vision in the mirror,the lost day,someone doing magic very late in life,RAB,why voldemort wanted a job at hogwarts, (which i think this might be linked to the title of book 7)the smoky machine dumbledore used in order of the phoenix or none or all of the above????

that's interesting, as someone already pointed out "hallows" can be connected to a greeting. Maybe there will be some deadly calls from the veil. But then I think Hallows will connected more to a "person" or a non-dead or similar rather than a greeting or a location

If 'hallow' = 'saint' (from wiktionary), then 'Deathly Hallows' = 'Saints like death'

Just to say I was pretty sure it was 'gallows', what with the hangman next to it.
I still don't like the way it spells 'death' in the last title! Very ominous, bad feng shui you know.

As in, that's what the voices they heard were? 'Deathyl greetings', sort of enticing them in?

Maybe it's a spell of some sort ... though what it could do I have no idea.

If you go to this site you'll find some titles that have been registered since 2004. The two most interesting ones are:
Harry Potter and the Hallows of Hogwarts
Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Hallows
So maybe the 'Hallows' the title refers to is something that is going to happen at Hogwarts?
