Book 7 Title Released - Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows V.2

And let the theorizing continue

What does the new title Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows mean? Is it a place? A group of people?

Main theories from Version 1:

   Halloween
All Hallow's Eve
Harry's parents died
could involve 2 "Hallow's Eves" - the one that started it all and one where it all ends

The Veil
Hallows = All Hallow's Eve, where the veil between worlds is thin
Sirius behind the veil
Hallow can mean "hallo" - signifying the tempting voices coming from behind the veil
Deathy Hallows could = the place beyond the veil

A Place
Godric's Hollow
A graveyard
A battlefield

An object
Something to get rid of Voldemort

Saints/Spirits
Hallows can = Saints - has been translated as "Saints" in Dutch
"Deathly Saints" could signify guardians of horcruces/hunters of horcruces
"Deathly Spirits" could link back to the veil

The Founders
Other registered names include Hallows of Hogwarts - set in the school/about it
The "Saints" could refer to the founders
The Four Hallows of Arthurian legend show symbols very similar to tarot symbols - which in turn are pretty similar to the House Founder horcruxes, or the elements of the Founders themselves

Horcruxes
The Four Hallows idea could allude to the horcruxes
Hallowed = holy/venerated, so could mean the places where Voldemort hides his horcruxes
"Deathly Hallows" could show the process how Harry will destroy the horcruxes (I have no "ecks" button)

Other people/creatures
Ghosts
A new object/character/creature
Inferi
Banshees
A group of people e.g. Death Eaters, guardians of horcruxes
Dementors

VERSION ONE.

True, but without the eve on the end of Hallows, then it takes the meaning of just Hallows. Which is not Halloween.

Example:

1. My friend and I are going to a graveyard on All Hallow's eve.

Or

2. I walked silently and revrently on the hallow ground.

They are two very different meanings and without the "eve" then the theory really doesn't make sense. JKR doesn't seem like the kind of writer to fool around with the correct format of writing. I mean if you tried to make sentence 2. about Halloween by adding "eve", it wouldn't make sense.

Honestly, to me, it has something to do with the horcruxes and what Harry has to do to get to them or where he has to go to find them. Since "hallows" could be both a noun and a verb, that's what I'm leaning towards.

I'm kind of contradicting myself in a way here but...

I think that the sword can be a Horcrux.
But no, Tom/Voldemort couldn't take it out of his hat. That's very true.
But then again, do you really think that he could steal something from Dumbledores office?

I think that the deathly hallows are horcruxes. A title of Harry Potter and the Horcruxes sound like a rock band.

the book obviously has to do with horcruxes, but someone said that the titles always have to do with the sub plot of the book.

Well, horcruxes sort of are a subplot...if you count Harry defeating LV as the main plot.

So I was thinking....could it mean that hallows or the departed souls actually mean inferi? We've known that Voldemort used them in the past...so HP and the Deathly Inferi? There's just so many possibilities.

Wow, that's really cool!

Okay people, interesting bit of info: Remember the prophecy in OotP, in the DoM? "On the solstice will come a new"..."and none will come after" It's the winter solstice today!!!

So Jo just switched them around. I am constantly astounded by how far ahead she thinks - just all these things that keep coming up, the solstice mention, now this... *shakes head in disbelief*

Anyway, I think Halloween has something to do with it, and the Veil. The Veil is just too good to be passed up. I can't imagine it not appearing in book seven - uh, I mean, in DH

Ahh, I'm sorry, I said that but I was wrong. Back then it was Professor Dippet's office, and since he believe Tom/Voldemort was a good person and all, he might have been slightly more believing and trusting of Tom/Voldemort and might have been easier to take something from his office.

Re: SPOILERS: Book 7 Title Released V.2

My sister found something rather interesting in the comments section of the Harry Potter fan zone. Someone might have already said this, but if not, you guys should see this. It's about the whole 'Hallows' thing.

Quote:
("holy" or "holy night") the Oct. 31 Greater Sabbat, also called November Eve, the Celtic Samhain ("sow-en"); the beginning of the Celtic winter, and of the Celtic year; the beginning of the Witches' Year, when the Veil Between the Worlds grows thin and the spirits of the dead may return to Earth; the Descent of the Goddess to the Underworld; the final Harvest festival
source:http://www.harrypotterfanzone.com/fu...ts.php?id=1467

Hmmm. A veil bewteen the worlds? As in the world of the dead and the world of the living? I don't think this is a coincidence that it refers to a veil that divides the world of the living from the afterlife.

I to as the general opinion goes...am inclined to think that it has something to do with Horcruxes and maybe Godric Hollow....the deathly part is definitely for Horcruxes whereas the Hallows part might refer to both Horcruxes and Godric Hollow...a pun intended to serve dual purpose....exactly the thing that JKR likes to do.

I didn't mean steal it, but make it into a Horcrux and leave it there...

Okay, now I sound silly. Make a Horcrux and leave know that it is in Dumbledore's office? Yes, that does sound kind of stupid now that I think of it... I change my mind there, you're right, I don't think that it's a horcrux , either.

Yes, JKR really knows how to get our attention with her catchy book titles!
